Be fit, not fat.

Mere gain in weight is not good. If you decide to have a ‘weight gain’, first of all, find your body mass index or BMI by dividing your weight by your height in metre squared. If it is within the normal value of 23, and you still look thin, you need to increase your muscle mass. You can achieve it by doing light weights and core strengthening exercises for 20 minutes daily. You also need to cycle, jog or swim for an hour daily. That will lead to a good physique and will also increase your appetite. Just increasing your food intake will cause your weight to increase but it will mainly be with fat deposition. You will probably develop a pot belly and thin arms which is always undesired.

Hi Doc. I tell people all the time that if they want to loose weight then they have to work out doing something and watch what they eat. I have a sister in law that has lost weight but she don't do anything and her body is flabby from the weight loss. I keep telling her she has to use her muscles to be fit and look good. But all she can do is put everyone else down for being overweight. Me I work out in my garden and yard daily it has helped me to loose weight and tone up my muscles at the same time. Still got a way to go on losing what I want to lose but it will happen and I will be toning up my body as I lose weight by working out at the same time. I already have more muscle in my arms and legs from working in my yard.

I used to exercise a lot before,I am planning to get moving again and to have proper eating habit.Thank you for the advise that you provided us.For sure a lot of lotters here are also conscious with their physique and weight.People now a days, are busy with their life.Sometimes being busy and lazy are the reason why people don't discipline their self in a lot of ways and by not having a good exercise. In order to have a long life people should practice healthy life style and to be wise enough in choosing the right kinds of food and by having a good workout.

WHo would wish weight gain upon themselves? I think muscle mass is best. What if you can't exercise due to pain? What if you don't care about your weight and very little about your health? What if you are so depressed some days you can't even get out of bed. What if there is nothing much to make you want to get up, exercise or anything else? What then?

That is always a good tips for you too be thin, and strong. I don't meant to be extremely thin type of person. We all need to exercise, and we should make us healthier. For me, I been lazy for over 2 years already. Some regret, because my belly is getting bigger, unattractive to girls anymore. I should do some indoor exercise, since outdoor is too hot. I just can't bear the heat outside.

My husband and I have decided to live healthy lives. We eat right and exercise regularly. We all need to take care of ourselves because it's the only body we have. We can't work properly if we don't have a healthy well-being, can we? Thanks for the post DD!

I would like to ask you one thing how many people know about the food what they are eating? they dont know the nutritional values and what will happend if they are eating without knowing.....i saw fat people most of the time eating fatty food...if they are aware of the nutritional values they will not eat.....my mantra for fitness is do lilltle jogging then for minimum 25minutes yoga.....and read and understand the values of food what you are eating........ thank you have a great day.......

hi doctor didi right you are and right now after recuperating from a terrible fall that broke my nose and some facial bones and also twisted my right knee badly I am not able to get much exercise. I am much overweight but at least I have not gained any more. When I was in the rehab hospital I lose ten pounds as they had me on a great diabetic diet that was filling but much less fattening than the crap we get here in Gold crest. from some 200 lbs i went down to 195 and had about thirty minutes of physical therapy which was mean to strengthen my twisted knee so I cou ld again walk without screaming in pain. this 30 minutes every day really helped the weight loss. now back here i gained it back with the crappy diet they use here. I do have some exercises I need to do everyday and I am cutting back on calories in hopes I can lose weight again.

You are very right; people need to spend time getting fit instead of eating junk food and putting on weight. My BMI at the moment is 29.7, which has come down from 37 since October 2010. I am very proud of that, and know that I will be able to bring it down even further until I am of the recommended BMI instead of being overweight like I am at the moment. If everybody had the motivation to lose weight, the world would be a much better place. I have also found that cutting back on food has saved me a lot of money, so this is just another bonus to add to how much better I feel about myself now.
