I ordered some tops online and was happy to receive them before Father's day. I planned on wearing one of the tops for the BBQ. Lucky that I tried them on a week before because the sleeves were too tight. My arms are rather muscular and bigger than most women. I can lift heavy loads and I also lift weights to stay in shape. I usually buy clothes that stretches to make sure the sleeves will fit. So I decided to fix the problem. I wanted to replace the sleeves so I took the sleeves from a top Im not wearing anymore and thought I can sew it on to this new top. Well try as I might, I couldnt get it to look good. I wish I had taken sewing classes when I was younger so Id know how to make a sleeve fit right. Do you know how to sew? Is there anything that you wish you would have taken classes for in the past?

With dressmaking, the most important thing is "the cut". If the cut isn't right, it won't sit well on the garment and it won't fit well on the person. I've always wanted to be able to draw and paint and I know it takes a lot of practice when you don't have a gift. I want to produce something worthwhile and great straight away so I don't try because I know I can't do that. Stupid eh??

Painting and drawing is very personal and Ive never taken lessons on how to pain, yet I do. I love my paintings and if the guy next door doesnt like them, well its HIS problem, not mine. I paint for myself and my paintings are on my walls so I can enjoy them and look at them and I do suggest you do the same. Paint for YOU, not for what the snob paint specialists say about your paintings. How this tree should be painted or how the sky should look......fuddle duddle.....you make the sky the way YOU want it to look.....its a painting!! I wish you would try it, its such fun and very relaxing. I only wish I had the time to do it more often!! As for my sewing.....I found something on the internet and then my cousin gave me some tips on how to make it fit. So I should be putting it all together this weekend if I have the time. Thanks for sharing about the cut.....you're right, its very important and I sure hope you'll get to painting, you're gonna love it!!

Actually, I have all the gear, even an easel but something holds me back. I just don't know. Yes, it's very relaxing but for some unknown and silly reason, I chain myself to the computer all day and I don't allow myself to do what I want to do...like reading and gardening and chores. I'm glad you sorted out the top, I hope you do well with it. Let me know how it goes. Thanks for BR.

I actually can sew though I do not do so anymore. When my children were little I use to love to sew their clothes, especially all the cartoon characters each Halloween. I have so many photos of each one I created and to date still enjoy seeing them. I still have lot of their costumes I have made save away in storage. I know how to crochet and was taught a little by a lady while growing up, but I do now wish I could have taken classes as I can't remember some of the things she tried to show me how to do. I can make baby blankets, and scarves. I use to make baby dresses but have not in such a long time I can't remember some of the things I use to make. Most of what I have made was more experimenting and was quite pleased at the time, but sadly I cannot remember some of the techniques.
