Do you think you could ever delete your Facebook?

Whenever I ask this question to anybody, they tell me that they could never ever delete their Facebook. And I think this is really funny. Why are we so reliant on a website for social interaction? Shouldn't we be real socialists and go out every now and then? I've heard before that Facebook raises your self-esteem through the pleasant comments you read on your photos, but shouldn't people go out and interact like the old days? I actually deleted my Facebook about a year ago because I really didn't want it. I accumulated over 400 friends, and I logged onto the site every day looking for photos of relatives at the beach or sad status updates by newly single people, and I somehow enjoyed it. Plus including all the applications that are integrated, it makes it very addictive. But now I wonder: Could you delete your Facebook?

I have deleted my Facebook account. I have a relative who kept telling me you have to go to Facebook to see this or see that. I got tired of it. I am on the computer at work a lot so when I get home I just didn't want to get on the computer. I would go to Facebook, but never understood what the big draw is for everyone. I got absolutely nothing out of it, so I finally just got rid of it!

I know exactly how you feel. So many people have told me to remake my account so that they can talk to me or see photos of my, but I tell them that we can simply just talk on the phone or go webcam or Skype or something else. It really isn't that hard. People just feel like they have to use Facebook to talk and see people when they can just talk to me simply. We're so reliant on this site, and it really is sickening. We are lacking social skills now because of this site, and it needs to stop.

I figure if someone wants to talk me they can use the phone or in person!

Exactly! It's so much more meaningful than typing to someone over the internet!

I don’t think to ever delete my facebook account. There are many friends of mine which are real and some of them are obviously virtual friends. Whatever I think these kinds of social website accounts takes time to be completed and I can’t muster courage to make this again. What about your views.

I get what you mean. There's so many people in your life that you just can't lose, and some of them are only connected to you through Facebook. This is totally understandable. Just don't become too addicted!

I totally get it. I had to totally look past the whole status updates thing before I deleted mine. I realized that I could just call them to make some interaction. But Facebook does provide the ability to look at pictures of your loved ones, especially if they're not in close distance from you.

I could never delete my facebook, because I have so many friends on there who I love to keep in contact with and I know that I would not be able to do this if I didn't have facebook because I can't afford to phone or text them as I would do for free on facebook every day. I think a lot of people don't like it because they waste too much of their time on it, but to be honest with you that's their problem. Many people use facebook for just an hour or so every day just to see what everyone's been up to, and they don't let it take over their lives, so there isn't really any need for anybody else to do so.

Hmmm...I totally see your point. Facebook can be a great way to talk to people that you can't see anymore. I have many friends that use Facebook to talk to their family that is in another country. And it really is a great tool for that purpose. I have a friend who's family is in Asia, and he uses Facebook daily to chat with them and see how they've aged! But yes, I agree, it can become bad when people become too addicted and too attached to this website. I mean, they need to get out of their house and do something else!

Yeah, I totally get what you mean. There's just some people who I know in real life that are completely different online. And it just gets so annoying sometimes! It's like they're a two-faced person. I once knew this person who was so meek and shy in real life, but online he was some sort of a mean person. I mean, he would insult so many people's photos. And it was just the strangest and rudest thing! And there's some people on Facebook who just post these really weird status updates. It really makes me want to give myself a face palm to the head. Like when they just post inside jokes, vague status updates, or lyrics from songs that no one wants to hear. I know I totally sound like an anti-Facebook hater right now!

Even though Facebook is a great service, I will have to say I never had an FB account. It's pretty weird I know, where I live, I am probably the only person of my age that doesn't use facebook. And to make it even more impressive, I got to say that I am a fanatic internet user, being online about 10+ hours per day! I know.. weird:P

Oh goodness that it is pretty weird! Facebook is the kind of thing that people sometimes buy a computer and an internet connection for! And to hear that you've never even had one? That's crazy! Of course I've made one, and I'm an avid internet user such as you! I just used it for some small socialization and to look at pictures of people whom I haven't seen it quite a while.

You can't really delete your Facebook account. You can just park it. A year ago, my brother also deleted his account, interestingly, this year when he decides to open it again, it's still there just waiting to be activated again. Anyhow, as for completely leaving Facebook, I think it's possible. Why should it be possible? It's about decision. There will be times when you just grow tired about routine things and soon Facebook would be one of them. Just recently, I have stopped playing games there - the reason why I go online in Facebook in the first place. I just found the regardless what I do, we can't really get something out of hours and hours of playing those games. I found myself running after the rankings instead of just enjoying the game itself. Therefore, I decided to just stop and just go on with my life. Do I miss it? Sometimes I do, but thinking about the hours and hours I spend just to update everything makes me tired, so I'm not tempted to open the games. Therefore, I think I could leave Facebook if I wanted to. I don't check it everyday. Have a great MyLot experience today!

No I can't delete my FB because most of my relatives are out of the country and they are all on FB. Email is a thing of the past now. Nobody uses email anymore, everyone's on FB. It's the only way i could view pics of my relatives faster. If my relatives were living close to me I wouldn't even be on FB. I only have 63 friends/relatives on it and I don't have a lot of friends around here either so FB is the window of my hello to and from the world.

I totally get your point also. Facebook has become a way for people separated by distance to keep in touch. It definitely is a great site for people to interact with someone whom they truly miss in a far away land. I know my mom has a Facebook so that she can talk to her mom back home.

Of course I could delete my Facebook...if I wanted to. Even though I barely use it, it's a useful site to keep in touch with friends and family. I don't login via the computer very much, maybe every 2-3 days. I keep the Facebook app on my BlackBerry, so when a friend or family member sends me a message or something, I get it instantly and I don't have to constantly check my phone either. Now, Twitter on the other hand, that's another story. I'm TOTALLY addicted to Twitter and wouldn't give it up for anything lol

I also had the Facebook app on my phone when I had a Facebook. I agree, it is a very useful tool to use to talk to your family, especially when you are separated by distance.

Yes i could easily delete my facebook right now.i hardly ever go on facebook because i find it so boring like the extremely dull status updates such as what they are having for tea or what they .think of the weather.the only thing i really use it to do is share photographs of friends and family and if i am bored i play the odd game but i am not one of those saddos who spends every waking moment on farmville

Oh my goodness I can totally relate. There are so many status updates on Facebook that make me want to rip my head off. It's filled with people who are claiming to be something they're not and people who are trying to be more cool than they actually are. The people who spend their times with the stupid Facebook applications really get to me too. When I used to have a Facebook, I would hate logging on and seeing so many notifications only to find out that it was just requests for pigs, cattle, and other stupid farm things on Farmville. I actually heard about this woman who actually KILLED her baby because she was so mad at Farmville. She shook her baby really hard, and it actually killed him.

I have deleted my facebook account twice . The first time I deleted my account because I thought this site is useless. I thought facebook is waste my time. Then I was back to facebook when I thought I can promote my new blog or my link in facebook. I want took advantage from my friends in facebook. When it didn't work at all, I deleted my account for the second times. I was back when I knew there is a group about computer application in facebook. This application is special and used in my office so I need some support for this application. I found some useful tips and tricks there so I decided to keep my facebook till now.

Yeah that's true. Facebook can really be used to promote ideas or other things. Like, I see many tasks where you just have to like someone's Facebook page to get a reward.

Absolutely sure. I don't have Facebook and I never created one. Mostly because in my country Facebook only became the number one social website a few months ago (before was orkut, not famous in others countries). But when I delete my orkut, I don't know if I'm going to create one Facebook because you end losing a lot of time looking for your friends updates and my real friends I talk through msn so basically a lot of people on your facebook are not real friends.

Oh wow. Well here in America, Facebook is like the number one thing. I mean, almost everyone has a Facebook! It's pretty crazy actually. It's funny because those people you hear about in Europe are using Facebook as a form of progression, while we here in America are using it to regress. What country are you from might I ask? And is Orkut similar to Facebook?

No, I don't think I can delete it even though sometimes I want too. I don't think it would make sense to delete it anyways. Many people that delete their account just end up creating a next one. Most of the time its just a problem with the people you have as friends. I say just delete some friends rather than starting all over again having to upload your favorite pictures.

Yeah I get your point. I see your method of deleting the friends you don't like seeing updates on! Or better yet, blocking them so their feelings don't get hurt. I've actually deleted mine, and I honestly don't plan on making one again. I thought about it, but then I thought of how much of a time waster it is. So yeah....Facebook free since '10!
22 Jun 11
No I can't. My face is like my life, it has half of it actually. It's like My Diary, My Photo Album, My Best Friend, My PSP and My Phone.. All in one in short...

That's what's kind of sad. People are so attached to this site.
