Chateau Frontenac - Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City
Canada

There will be a big holiday here in Quebec city. Its about 3 hrs from where I live I think. I went there when I was a kid and never went back. There will be a holiday and usually it always ends up in a riot. The French speaking population will celebrate their birthday (whatever that means) and the English speaking kid will show up and start a fight. So the Mayor of Quebec City decided that no booze would be allowed on the premises on that day. So they think that by preventing kids to drink, all will be quiet but they should know that kids will drink BEFORE they get there, so it might be even more dangerous as the kids will drive drunk to get there. Do you think its a good idea to prevent people from drinking while they are celebrating their French heritage?? http://www.whichday.com/articles/index.php?article=166

Not a good idea at all in my view. You're right..they'll just drink before they go out. What's the minimum age you can drink over there? I know it's 21 in the US and 18 here but Canada? I have no idea lol.

18 here too. But if they bring in the booze, kids of 12 will be drinking as there will be no control. You're right, they will keep the booze in their cars, go back, drink and come back on site drunk. Its too bad that for a few who lose their heads, they have to do this. Some people can drink responsibly and have fun. I think it would be best if they had cops on the site who will arrest anyone who is too drunk and about to start a fight. That would make more sense as they wont be able to control the whole city because its quite a bit city. Thanks!!

WOW, thats really bad. Well I dont drink at all. I hate the taste and I drank once only and was so sick, it lasted for a whole week. No booze for me even if I worked for the Quebec L*quor board. I can sell it but not drink the stuff. Here our clubs close at 3AM but the people leave the place around 4 or 5AM. They order a lot of booze right before 3AM and will remain in the bar until they are done drinking. Ive noticed that here people are drinking more and more. Before it used to be older men drinking. Teenagers were smoking pot. Now with the smoking not allowed in public places, they took to drinking and since its sold by the Government......well no way are they going to stop selling, right? I think its government owned in your country also. I too would be so ashamed to be refused entry because I cant stand up OMG!!

The booze isn't owned by the Government BUT it's taxed to high heaven, which amounts to the same thing. Is this what you meant?

Drinking is part of it. Although I am not a drinker, I am accustomed to celebrations and with lots of drinking on it... But there's no such laws that prohibits too much drinking or even drinking itself. In other countries, there are even driving services for those who got drunk that could no longer drive - that is to avoid accident...
