I come from a family of donors. Though personally I don't have the means to donate to charitable organization since I am not working. My mom who is a poor rich woman has been donating to people who knocks on her doors. She has a heart of gold who never say no when asked. I hope to help too but how can I give from an empty bowl?

If I have extra money then I donate. In stores when they ask me to make a donation I usually donate a couple dollars. Where I work we have a charity that helps kids who can't afford to enroll in organized sports. It's a charity that helps our community and pays to enroll those kids, plus transportation fees, etc.

I believe in giving back. I donate clothes and household items as well. My most current giving project is with Kiva. I love Kiva because it focuses on people and groups who need help (extra funds) with their already existing and expanding businesses. You can choose who you would like to help and scroll through and read some of their background stories. You feel a bit more connected than just sending money in an envelope. You are gradually repaid what you lend and it is usually all returned within a couple of months and at that time, you can decide to re-lend or cash out the original money you lent. I occasionally still to attend to the Wishuponahero site where you can give money, clothing and really just about anything. The last thing I donated through them was a box of clothes. There was a woman there who talked about her son being embarrassed because he had to wear the same pair of pants daily to school. They were moving but beforehand all of their apartment had been infectd with bed bugs and lice. Shed had to get rid of most of their clothes and linens and could not afford to buy new ones and they were also trying to move. I had a goodwill box of clothes ready and after I read her story, just sent the box to her. I think we all can have a lasting impact if we all do our part. I received a letter back from her stating how appreciative her son was to have "new" clothes and he wondered where they came from and she said that a hero had sent them to him.......life doesn't get much better than that.... I still get a little teary-eyed over that one. Where, who or to what do you donate?

I do have my own charity works. Its just that I gave it to those who badly need it.There are times that I don't believe the others who will ask for a coin or goods. For me to be satisfied and sure that it will be given to those in need I conduct my own.I just ask help to repack the goods that I will prepare together with the clothes and after that I will offer my whole day to distribute it.

Yes, I donate when I can. I regularly support the Canadian Cancer Society (lost my mom to the disease), the hospital foundation in my town, the children's hospital in the city, etc. I try to support the fundraising initiatives of some corporations - like McHappy Day for McDonalds or Camp Day for Tim Horton's. If I'm going to buy an item anyway, like a cup of coffee, I'm happy to have some of that go to a worthy cause. I can't always give much but, even if it's $5 or $10 to a hospital foundation of tossing $1 or $2 into a collection tin, I do try. I also donate clothing and household items to an organization that runs stores to assist physically and mentally challenged adults. They clean and re-sell the items and the money they raise helps some of those adults to have jobs and live somewhat independently.

There are so many different ways to help charities. I belong to a wonderful organization called online Angels. They assist anyone that needs a lift. I knit 4" squares to have put together for baby afghans. Others make 6" to 12" squares both crochet and knitted. Some knit preimee caps, cancer caps, etc. I just send in a package for however many I get done in a month. Some months are more and other months are less. I used to be an HIV/Aids counselor and volunteer in St Louis Missouri. I could not hand out money but I used my car and helped Aids pts get to dr offices, dental appts, etc. I am on SSD myself so handing out money is very hard for me to do, but buying a roll of yarn to help make something is my way of assisting others.

Sometimes I donate to the Salvation Army, but that's basically it.
