Hello Lotters, I was about to go out and buy something when i saw this article on the newspaper, which was on the front page, i think. am not sure but some how it doesn't feel right. United States has yet again interfere with our affairs in the Asian territory, but that's because the Philippine Government is reiterating it's 1951 treaty of Alliance with the United States after the World War II. Most people were Pessimistic saying Negotiations is the first priority. lot more were saying that millions of dollars should be used for medication, education, Disaster coordinated goods, and many more for the civilians. In my view, what has happened to us and China. things has changed when China was once our trading partner. how could they treat us this was when we have a Chinese-Filipino Breed community..

hi LN, hope you gave a reference to where you read that, yes it's not about China and the Spratlys, China is our trading partner, and yes we have a large Chinese community and we love them being fellow Asians, I myself have Chinese blood, our military and our capability just simply need an upgrade, and no other way to do that but thru our traditional ally, and a treaty is a treaty, it's an agreement that needs to be honored no matter how old. The U.S. has thrown away billions of dollars to nations that they thought would be their friends but statistics would show that they vote against her policies. U.S. could have spent it on their own, to create jobs, but the U.S. is a nation that gives similar to Japan, perhaps in their financial state right now they would reascess whom to help, and I hope we are included in their agenda

Hello Louievill, THEY SHOULD HAVE CONSIDER US PRIMARY ALLIES in ASIA in the FIRST PLACE. now they are paying their mistakes for not getting back at what they have invested upon. the taliban and al-queda that they supported turned their backs at them. because we are friendly to US and even support their policies, no matter how stinky it maybe.

guess she supported her simply because they fought a war with her former arch rival the U.S.S.R., could have been the most sensible thing to do at that time, like applying for a job ,maybe they should have looked at the background, that place was never tamed since the time of Hannibal and the Roman Empire, yes what a waste of lives and resources, now even a pull out is threatening to divide the nation.

Excuse me for asking this question but you seem to suggest that the US helping upgrade your army is a bad thing? The US is not looking to take ownership of Philippines, I can assure you and with all the terrorist attacks taking place from the Abu Sayef rebels it might be a good thing to get some anti-terror training to help. With regards to trade partners, the world is changing daily and places such as China are trying to flex as much muscle as possible. I don't see it lasting forever and your country needs to look for smaller trade partners now to help boost the economy and slowly start growing. Southern Asia is infamous for its crash roughly 20 years ago that destroyed Vietnam, Cambodia etc. You have a lot of potential for success if only the government changed a few rules and helped it's people with land ownership, encouraged more farming etc.

Hello Teamcholent, Some militants believed that US intervention means another something "in return" that has been the mentality of majority of the Filipinos. I do believe that US won't be giving any kind of hardware for free, so there's no doubt the Phil. Military is planning to buy some discounted rate ships, armoury and others.but there's a lot of people out there believes that having US rule is still the best, i beg to differ. So, i think it's diplomacy that counts. you're right increasing farming capabilities.

hi letran as an American I am at a loss to know about the Us and the Philippine Military. I mean I am proud of my country as you of course are for yours. And I know my country is not perfect but is this supposed to be a bad thing or good thing? Why are we into upgrading your military when here in the US our own people are in bad shape just like the first depression. Obama should be working to figure out how to get all our thousands of men and women back to work in jobs so we can once again prosper as we used to. why is he putting all his efforts into every other damned country in the world while we are in the worst economy since the first great depression? I mean since a lot of filippinos look at any of our help as just interfering anyway why on earth are we causing friction when we should be taking care of our own people? I have all the respect in the world for the Philippines and your people but I wonder at times what our president is doing and why?

Hello hatley, I guess they're message was merely precautionary just in case China would go into conflict with other Asians including the so weak Military of the Philippines. Providing a re-armed to the Philippine Military can sense a bad signal also to other Asian neighbors. but i've heard in the news that US diplomatic team will be talking to China's delegates in Hawaii any time soon.

dear LK, The question is...do we have all those new training and new weapons for war,or even to defend our country?... Do our military ready for any surprised attack?.. When there are rebels that can't be defeated eh... Time to upgrade why not...? Youths are using US brands and always proud using those US brands...not to mention singing all new genre songs. what's the difference?

Hello mantis, That is the question indeed. thus, we know that there will be possible transactions like that, it's freaking upsetting that they are going to do business with us at our state of economy. i guess we really have to negotiate instead of going for war because it's really going to be expensive or worse, we could still loose

@mantis36, I think it's because the world would soon find out (or they already know) that we have a large role to play in the stability of the region especially with our location in the Asian map, it's not in the NOKOR or the SOKOR peninsula, an economically weakened Japan and an energized China maybe that's why. If you believe that history repeats itself then just remember the precedents of WWII and you will know what I mean.
