My college just set up a swimming pool and I wanted to swim as well as the others. The problem is that I have fear with the water as I almost drowning in the swimming pool when I was still a kid. Well...I had tried to solve the fear but once the water reach my neck, I started panic and feel unsafe when there's nothing so me to hold. Does anyone is in the same situation? What are your recommendations in solving this problem?

Have you tried positive thinking through creative visualisation? Basic steps are 1) Get into a relaxed atate. 2) Imagine yourself entering a shallow pool of water, and moving about without facing any problem. 3) Do it several times before actually physically doing it.

If you go to a therapist you would probably be given a similar exercise. It is commonly used for self-improvement, and to overcome phobias.

I don´t think this is as easy as going to the water and saying that you will not fear it. If it´s very important for you, you must ask for help with a psychologist. If it´s not important, sunbath while the rest of your friends are at the pool. You can tell them stories and jokes, sy that the chlorine in water gives you allergy, anything if you don´t want to explain. I fear earthquakes, my country has had the worst earthquakes recorded and I can feel one when noone can feel them. I run. But I don´t mind. I´m not coward in other aspects so this is my flaw.

Maybe a therapy will help. Or, try to stay where you can stand with your head over the water until you master your fear. Luck!!!

try swimming in shallow pools at first. this may take some time. You should let more than half of your body get used to being submerged underwater. Take things step by step. You may look silly, but to hell with it! What matters is how much you want to overcome this fear of water.
