It was my first birthday with my current job, and it is a tradition to treat our office mates when there are occasions. I decided to celebrate this with my department colleagues as well as with my two bosses (department head and my immediate superior). I shoot an email telling them at their lunch will be my treat. And exchanging of emails, greeting me happy birthday (but my birthday will be on Sunday actually) followed. And then suddenly my boss approached me then she hugged me, she greeted me. I was so touched because she is so warming. Then our lunch was so full of fun, in a while someone would throw a joke and we'll laugh like there is no tomorrow, like we were the only customers in the fastfood. Then suddenly my boss told me to finish my drinks quickly because we'll go to the next fast food chain. Oh well, it was my boss' treat this time. Overall, I enjoyed this simple celebration with my second family.

I miss moments like that. There used to be a time when birthdays were big in our workplace and every now and then people would bring food to celebrate their birthdays. Then eventually, people got tired of celebrating, I think. Then less and less people celebrated their birthdays in the office. Most of the time, people who have birthdays would even take a leave from work. But I miss those moments because it makes us feel closer to our officemates when we celebrate special events in our lives together.

Same with here, most of birthday celebrators in our office would take their leave once their birthday fall on weekdays. But they cannot scape from bringing food in the office once they back to work the following day. Yes right, gatherings like this make us closer with our office mates and it brings more time to bond. :)

It is good when you can have more than one celebration of your birthday. It only happens once every year so you might as well make the most of it when it's here. I think you're really lucky to have such good friends in your workplace, as a lot of people don't make friends at work at all. For a lot of people, work is where you go to earn money and nothing more than that ever gets done, but it is so nice that you have managed to make friends to the extent where they feel like your second family. I wish I enjoyed my job that much.

Actually, I cannot say that there was a close relationship in our office. It only happens when there are occasions such like this. But when it comes to work-related matters, there are no friends. We usually do what should employees must do. We are not talking to each other as much as we can during office hours. I mean, we are really concentrated to our jobs. But when there are occasions, like birthdays, or ever extra curricular activities like games (e.g. bowling), we are like kids who make noise and get excited. I can say that we know how to separate work from our personal relationships. And yes, there is fun in there and I am starting to appreciate my work as well as my colleagues. :)

Yes, it is usually more fun to work if there are people who care about us. In our office too we have the b'day celebrations which is held every month. As we are a slightly bigger group so we have it combined for all individuals who had their b'day during that month. Cheers! Ram

First of all Happy Birthday to you! It is good to know that your boss and colleagues celebrated your birthday with you. I also celebrated my birthday with them last year and it's quite happy knowing that they all came just to celebrate the most important day of your life. But it was my treat though and I guess that's one of a shot birthday celebration for me.
