Stay off Facebook. It's a simple and efficient way to help secure your personal information and personal security.

I understand what you might think of Facebook, but it is not safe for you and your family. I do not only mean computer security but personal safety too. Unless of course if you treat it with responsibility and not like others posting constantly where they are and what they are about to do. It is a serious threat.

@cairalyssa: Somewhat I agreed with makatas. Staying off Facebook sometimes can make things better, although as per your say it is your best way to build marketing. I believe there are countless other ways to build your network. Words of mouth can be helpful too (although I believe Facebook multiply that effeciency by 10 times). Or perhaps you can try blogging. Your followers can be your marketing prospect, too. Nevertheless, there are many more social networking sites on the Net and not just Facebook.

In your account settings, make sure that only friends or people you know would be able to access your info. About info, just make sure you don't put all the important facts like your right birthday, your address and never ever post your contact number or details. I can also add that with regards to adding people, just filter it, if you don't know them, just avoid, only add those who really are your friends and family members. Do not post in Facebook every detail of your life, from where you are now, what you do in life, etc. About passwords, I still suggest you update your password every after three or six months and take note of it so that you will not forget your password. Make sure that the password you use in Facebook, are not the password you use in your email account, in any social sites you have and other things, keep it unique and with number combination. Last but not the least, if you access your Facebook using a rented computer, delete the cookies after using the computer. If you are using a pc at home or laptop then after usage you can use prefetch option on your run program to delete those cookies so that your password is safe.

A good way to not get hacked from ANYWHERE is to avoid phishing sites and links. Most people who get hacked usually enter their personal information and passwords on a phishing site which is a site that looks like "Facebook" or a big site, but steals your password and username when you enter it, to "log-in". Avoiding those sites can lower your chances of getting hacked. Changing your passwords every once in a while wouldn't hurt either, but just remember to have it somewhere so you don't forget it.

There is only one sure way to avoid internet hackers, the only way that works just fine is to stay off the internet, quite boring.
