Still ignorant: The number beside my name. What is it?

What does the number below my name indicate. I thought its my friends. But its been increasing in the past one hour and i haven't added more friends.

Well, I've been around few days too but as far as I understand is like a quota or ranking, is just to see how much activity has each user had since signing up, also I guess goes related in part on how much they have earn, but I think the ranking/quota increases also when you comment a response but that does not increase your earning.
But still learning too.

If you had read the previous responses you would have had no doubts.
ALL of your activity, if it is within the Guidelines, will add to your earnings but not to that number. The two are not related. Some of us comment over and over again on the same discussion and our number does not increase when doing so but our earnings do.
