New Life Stresses

Oooh where to start. I have changed my class schedule about 4 times...keep chaning my mind about a class or two. And one class I really want to take is only available on Thursdays in the late evening...so if I can't get Thursdays off from work I won't be able to take it. I'm going to be starting work sometime either at the end of July or beginning of August...and right away I need to request Thursdays off, which I hate being a pain like that! And i also wanted to request Sat. and Sun. off, but I would settle for one of them. Yes, I get stressed out thinking about asking for specific days off...crazy right? Haha And I just found out that once I pay for this semester of classes, I will have 10 dollars or less in my bank account! I thought I would have around 200, boy was I off! That tells you how badly I need to work! My trip to Best Friends really cleared out my pockets! Anyone else extra stressed right now?

Oh please, you really don't want to know do you? Well, you probably already know about my math class, the nightmare of having to teach myself or risk having my instructor tell me I should take the class at the campus because he won't help me wit a problem.. Then on top of that, two nights ago, my husband totally ruins my evening when on the way to meet my daughter and her friends at a restaurant to celebrate her b-day. He starts debating and making me feel like crap so that by the time we arrived, I had to force myself to eat a salad and water, because there was no way I could get anything else down. Last night he again had me in his car, thinking he can berate me and when he slowed down, I told him to stop, I am getting out here. So I open the door and in front of his son, he speeds up and tells me to jump. Now this is a van and the door I opened was the sliding side door, the momentum when he sped up,I couldn't get in or shut the door and my son is freaking out.. I didn't mention this on FB, but I made a note there, explaining that I am not going back until further notice. I won't go into detail there, because his family and friends are there, but thankfully here I am free to say whatever... Anyways, you asked, but I need to continue to finish here so I can get back to math..

Does your husband always do things like this to you? That's awful! Emotional/verbal abuse is no better than physical abuse, it's only different. I'm sorry about your math class! I am not even taking math classes yet! I haven't dealt with math since highschool (4+ years ago) and I am not eager to start it up again. I may have to take my first college math class next semester though, I am just dreading the placement test for it. Don't want to get a bad score (which I know I will) and feel stupid. Good luck with everything!!! Don't let anyone get you down!!! **Have you heard of the website RateMyProfessors.com? I don't know how many people will use it at the school you are going to...but if it's active for your school you may be able to avoid getting a nonhelpful teacher in the future!

I try to be very picky about my teachers. The one that teaches the class on Thursday that I want has had over 200 or 300 people rate him, and his overall rating is 4.8/5...that's a pretty safe bet that he'll be awesome. And that's why I want to take his class this semester, it might not be there next! Oh I'm so sorry! It's got to be annoying when people go on the wrong person's side and tries to tell you everything has to be your fault because he's just so great...I hope that you are able to get yourself out of that situation!

Yes, he has only before I would just vent and move on, but last night was the last straw, he did this with my first three kids, one of which doesn't realize, but the other one does and hates what he does to me..Of course when I mention it isn't just me, he'll say, Oh yeah, (daughter's name) she is like you.. Problem is, he acts so innocent of everything, he's even got his whole congregation on his side. I know this because a couple is on my FB page and neither girl has said anything to me until the other day and this girl started saying ow nice my husband is and I shouldn't be that way... Yes, I have heard of that website, thanks to my neighbor's daughter. I used it last quarter to rate my math teacher positive, not that she needed it, everyone else rated her that too...Unfortunately, both math classes that were opened for the summer, the teachers had mixed reviews, so I thought I picked the lesser of two evils..If I don't see a good teacher for my next class, I'll put it off until one shows up..

Well, of course we are all stressed out :) No doubt you will find your way thru all this. I feel for you and wish I could help. Take a chance and ask for a day or so off. It won't or shouldn't hurt. As far as stress goes here, it's always here ! We have the worst drought in years in Oklahoma and the heat........it's been 107 thereabouts for weeks now and no rain in sight... My humming birds are suffering. The water they drink out of the feeders I put out is so hot I'm sure it burns their long tongues......God bless them, I do try... But , mostly us older folks have dealt with your troubles in a different way years ago. Take time to really think about what you want to do as I know you do. Still, life is too short to miss out on any one thing you want to do.... Once again, LIFE IS TOO SHORT ..........DON'T MISS A THING.. quita

Oh it's been hot here too, it was 100 degrees at 8am!! Oh it was AWFUL! I don't know about the rain or not. It hasn't rained but I don't know if it will soon or not. I hope it does because my car could really use a good washing! Haha Aww poor hummingbirds! Is there somewhere you could hang their feeders in the shade? It's nice of you to supply them with food anyways, I'm sure it really helps them. If anything I need Thursday off, and I'm going to make sure they understand that. My class isn't available any other days or times, and it may not be there next semester. So I really need it off no matter what! Thank you quita!

Ooo I didn't think of doing that to the feeders to keep them cool, that's a good idea. and it's nice of you to take the time to do that to make sure the hummingbirds are getting what they need. I will let you know if I get Thursday off. I'll be calling work either next week or the week after, and starting whenever they want me to. I'm excited to start work again, I've missed working with all the pups and cats! I just hope it doesn't start off with a negative (me having to drop my class b/c I can't get Thurs off) Oh well, fingers crossed, I can't keep worrying about it.

I think the whole country is in bad shape. Some are drowning and we are burning up. I agree! Hotter than a three dollar pistol LOL The hummers do ok. I have fed them for years and the hot water is bad for them but I wash the feeders off with a cold hose and it seems to help. I am hoping you get Thurs. off !!!!! take your time. Life will wait for you ... thank you too. quita

Amen to that. I work all of the time online to try to earn money for my husband and I. I have alot of stress going on also with my daughter even though she has moved away from home. She is doing alot of bad things in life and it is really taking a toll on me. Her husband is making alot of bad choices also which involves the law. she is pregnant also and neither of them are a bit concerned for the welfare of the baby by both getting jobs, vehicles and a roof over the baby's head. Her husband is getting ready to do prison time for grand theft auto. I hope it makes her straighten up but I highly doubt it.

OH WOW, your stresses just beat mine. I'm sorry!! Maybe there's a way you can make your daughter see that her life is not what it should be with her husband. Do you think there's any way you can get her to start thinking about the baby? How long is her husband going to jail? Maybe you can convince her to move back home with you, at least during that time. So neither your daughter or her husband works? I would love to make some extra money selling my photography, but I have no idea how to go about doing that.

hi lily ofthethorns long time no see. hi. I was stressed out the last two days as my internet connection was running as slow as a turtle stuck in molasses. so finally called time-Warner Cable and got a repair man to come today. He found out my cable modem was wearing out and replaced it.now my internet is really moving like it should., what a relief and now I am no longer stressed out. hope your job plans and class schedule all work out for you. I remember the hassles I had getting my schedules worked out and one quarter I took 19 units and never again.I was 54 and graduated with a BA when I was 56 so it was a dream come true for me but so much harder than it would have been in my twenties but I accomplished it just the same.

Hi Hatley!! I am glad your internet is functioning again. I know when I don't have internet, or when my internet is slow, I go crazy! Haha. But two days? Ew. I really hope my job works with me on my class schedule, it's the same manager that was there when I left a couple years ago, so I think she will help me out. She was a really good manager. I shouldn't worry as much as I am, but I am just a natural worrier. Thank you!

As a student you are justifies asking for Thursday night off. They know that you need a work schedule that accommodates classes. It's no big deal. Don't ask for weekends off. Everyone wants them off. It's not mandatory that you have them off. It looks bad to ask for the days off that everyone wants off. Be a good employee and take the schedule that they give you with a huge smile with the exception of Thursday nights. No one wants a pain in the butt employee. Special favors are a pain in the butt. Save the scheduling requests for when you really need them, like finals time or even before a big exam. If you are a good agreeable employee who rarely makes special requests, they will give you the days off for studying without malice. Meow from my newest foster kittens. Off to give them a bottle.

Aww foster babies!!!! So far they seem like they really want me back, so I think if there is anyway they can accomidate me for Thursdays they will. And I talked to a lady that also works there (she was my coworker when I worked there before) and she said she is working Saturdays and Sundays right now, and they only have one of us per day, so I'll probably get them off anyways. And I think my previous coworker will take Thursdays for me if the boss allows it. I guess all I can do is wait and see, and hope it all works out! Thank you CatLady!!!

I think I have similar 'stresses' as you. I am constantly in financial stress, and I constantly worry about what happens tomorrow, or the next day, or the next week. I am also trying to get back to school. And just when I was given an extension to complete an unfinished course, I find out that I couldn't go because I don't have anybody watching the kids at night when I go to a class.

I understood what you said here. It is hard man. On one hand, you need to attend classes to finish up your education. On the other hand, you just need to make that money so bad to fund your education. I had experienced such scenario in my life too. It won't be easy, but you will get through it.

Most of us encountered a lot of stress in life.It is a matter for us on how we are going to handle it and on how we can cope our stress. We should be flexible enough in dealing with it.Though we encountered a lot of times being stressed out we should give time to ourselves to relax and unwind sometimes so that we can think well and we can be productive again and be able to cope the stress again.
