I am not sure how one takes a new bed. But so far people have said that it is hard to sleep on it the first time. I did experience it. The new bed kept me awake for hours and found myself in very light sleep. What about you? Do you feel discomfort in new bed?

Sleep -- one cannot purchase this by paying money. We can buy a bed but not sleep. Rickshawmen sleep on the rickshaw itself. I know a person who will not be able to sleep on the first day of train travel. second night he will sleep. The more tired u are u get good sleep. I have not had issues on account of new bed. But many time I may not get sleep when I worry about issues over which I have not control/

What you said is so true Just like you, I did not have this discomfort problem before. But as I passed my 19 I saw this looming. Now I cannot even sleep on my mom's bed. So are you comfortable in hotel bed?

normally yes. It depends on the ambience prevalent in the hotel. In India we have a lot of mosquitoes. If that problem is there I find it difficult to get sleep. In USA there is no mosquito problem and the temp is 75 f. I get sleep. whatever it may be if there are worries in our mind -- for example health of our grand children, or self or spouse OR employment of someone known to us then we cannot get sleep. INTERESTING. I retied 10 years ago. Today morning I got a dream as if I am compelled to take charge as Manager of West Mambalam (chennai) branch. without my willingness I am joining ...... disturbed sleep. Once I woke up I realised I am in USA and I no longer have to do that job. (I cannot)

Oh no, there are mosquitoes in some parts of USA and they are almost gigantic in size. We always have to make sure that every exit door is closed in the evening. Otherwise, one definitely ends up inside. I remember once at my aunt's motel, her customer came to complain that he could not sleep in his room at night due to mosquito bites and because of that he refused to pay her. My aunt basically had to go with "okay" because she did not want her motel to have a bad name. Worries can definitely kill the sleep. I am sorry to hear that you had a bad dream. Hope it does not come true

Sometimes. If it is a brand new bed, I have trouble at first. Beds are like shoes, you have to break them in. I can sleep in a hotel just fine because the bed has been used before.

I like how you compared bed with the shoes. I suppose most problems occur when we go from hard bed to the softer one or from softer to the hard one.

If the bed is hard and makes my body feel pain while sleeping on the new bed, of course i am unable to sleep well. Besides that, sleeping in a new place like whenever i visit my parents or relatives, of course will takes some time to get used to it. But, after spending the second day sleeping on it, i think i will feel asleep without interruption since tiredness plays an important role in my sleep. Sometimes, it is good to walk around the house to relax the mind, before go to bed to get a good sleep, no matter how new is the bed.

Yes, I can relate to it. I noticed that at my relatives' house it takes some time for me to sleep on the first night. Do you think it has something to do with the environment also? Perhaps, going from the usual environment to a newer one can also disturb the sleep.

It depends on the bed and how I'm feeling physically. If I'm tired enough then it'll be difficult to wake up, but if I'm not tired enough, then that's a different story all together. If i'm in a lot of pain, or restless then sleep isn't going to come easy regardless of the bed I'm in. Though I do agree beds often have some getting used to if they're new. The only beds I've never had trouble sleeping in, were those in hotel rooms. Often all I wanted to do while in those beds was sleep. Quite often though if I'm in a hotel its because I've done some traveling (which doesn't happen very often), so in that sense its real comfortable sleeping in a hotel, or motel bed.

Actually, I'm that kind of person, who likes changes. So, sometimes, on new bed, I may get a really good sleep than on my old one! To experience that kind of feeling, I sometimes change positions of my bed in order to go with it! And to be very frank, I don't think, the sleep is in anyway related to the new or the old bed!!

It might happen to me, although I haven't changed my bed for 8 years yet. I found myself uncomfortable at a new room. When my parents exchange a new room with me, I found it strange, and couldn't fall in asleep at the first night. On the next couple of days, I got used to it, and I feel much better. So, it is a matter of time, when you can get used to it.

I find the new beds more comfortable because they are not dirty and will be more shockproof. I think I will get a sweet sleep on it. Why not you get the sleep in new beds?

I'm not really concern if the bed is new or old as long as I'm assured that the bed covers are clean and it's not soggy nor too hard. What troubling my sleep now is my biological clock.I'm so used to sleep late at night or dawn that I'm having a hard times waking up early in the morning.I really want to adjust it.

Well, i didn't have this problem. As long as the bed is comfortable and clean, then i can sleep well and easily even if it is a new bed. So, do you face this problem also when you live at hotel during travel? Then, how you handle this problem?

It does take me awhile to get entirely comfortable on a new bed but if i'm comfortable enough it doesn't matter where I sleep. I normally have laid on the bed for a bit first before settling down for sleep in order to find the comfortable positions.
