a story to tell

Hi, it has been quite some time since I have read a children's story book but I do remember the ones that have stayed with me all these years and I am not exactly a youngster. One of the books I have read is an English classic "Black Beauty" which tells the life story of a horse - the highs and the lows of it all. As a child, I was impressed by the book as it taught me that animals have a life story to tell too. It stirs the compassion within as the story told was rather moving. It taught me to be considerate and kind and to see from another person's perspective. Do you also have a favourite tale that you like to share with your child, niece or nephew?

My daughter LOVES Black Beauty! I'm working her through the Little House series, which I grew up on, and DH is working her through The Lord of the Rings, which he grew up on.

hi ozarkcat, that's for your response. And oh yes, the Little House series did indeed brought back wonderful memories of my youth and the tv series with all its good wholesomeness. Something iconic of that time I guess. If possible, the Little Women series too in due course.

I actually started reading back through the Little House books before she was born - we spent six months camping & building a homestead, and the books went very quickly from historical memoir to instruction manual :) I loved reading about Pa building a smokehouse out of a hollow tree trunk!

The little match girl - I loved this book so much but i actually forgot how the story went.
Yeah i remember reading this sad story of The little match girl. I don't exactly know how the story goes but now when I come to think of it, I loved that book a lot when I was little. It had the picture of this sad little girl in the front cover. Aww I miss all the books from my childhood.

ha! I remembered the little match girl too. Guess her picture stays longer with us than the story itself. Probably we were just too young then!!

When I was a kid I thoroughly read and reread every book that I own, especially the Little House Books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I love every book in that series because it is autobiographical! Even though am not an American, I saw how Americans lived very long ago, how they farm and hunt, and even made ice cream or snow candies. Another story that I liked as a child is The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. A very nice and touching book, I imagined how it feels to be like Mary, she's so very lonely, as compared to myself, who is surrounded by 5 siblings and a lot of cousins.

I absolutely LOVE all the Dr Suess books - they have such a cheerful, happy message that really life doesn't have to be so serious all the time! And a lot of them have some hidden meanings in there too.. Probably the most influencial book for me by Dr Suess was The Places You'll Go - Have given it to all my friends as 21st presents because it has such a great message about how every one of us is important and special and has so much to offer in life :)

I have always say that my friends are my books fiction or otherwise. Hmm. I don't fancy war and peace as a kid though.

With my little brother and sister, I used to read many books..but one they particularly enjoyed for some strange reason (and I say this because I ABSOLUTELY ADORED THE MOVIE as a child, of course)..was Pinocchio! I would read..and they would be pretty much in awe..it was so cute!

Ha! Pinocchio. I guess it has a moral story to tell. I did enjoy the Disney version with its many wonderful songs too. Nostalgic ride.

As a child I loved Charolette's Web. I still enjoy reading to/with my students.
