Fish and guest smell at three days old. Particularly in India, guests arrive without prior intimation and making the life to go haywire. I have experienced many a time which causes a lot of inconvenience. If one guest one can manage, the whole lot of family arrives. Have you ever had such experience or Guests are always welcome at your home?

If the guest come for first time and stay for one or two day we welcome them, but the same guest started coming every six or year then it is irritating. There are some guest who come to enjoy or see places. Until they does not disturb your daily routine than O.K., but the day thay start interfering your family, personal matter than it is beyond control. You are right this practice in India is more.

Thank you for your interesting response. You have clearly narrated how the guests should mind their own business and not poke their nose into host's personal matters.

I personally think thats the bond we share in our families, specially in Asian Countries. We are so completely attached to our families and relatives and that the beauty of our lives. Our relatives never think that they might be a problem to us cos the love is so much. All my family including my two kids, love when some one visits us and we make it our duty to see that they are well attended and they are happy. Even thought they want to go, we constantly request them to stay at least another day or two. This may be due to the reason that our relatives are not living close by and they have to travel a long way to come to our place. We are in the commercial capital of my country and almost all our relatives are beyond 60 miles away. When we visit them also, they dont want us to leave. I personally think, we must let our kids to know their relatives so they wont be alone in this world some day. We have to have that kind of relationship otherwise our kids will be like robots who only might work and earn money until they die. Relationships give our lives value.

Very sentimental and very practical response indeed. In sanskrit there is saying: ATHITHI DEVO BHAVA meaning to say Guests are like gods and one should serve the guests as if they are serving the gods. Thank you very much for giving a highly spirited, meaningful response.

You are right. This kind of etiquettes are deep seated in US and other countries. In India, guests invariably arrive without prior information. Thanks for your response.
