Hello My Friends. I am posting this to let you all know that I am going to be gone for a short while from MyLot. I have lost my job and had to move in with my daughter and am having trouble getting my internet service moved to her house. I am hoping to be able to pay my internet bill with money I am earning doing private duty care. I will do my best to respond to this discussion as I am able to on a borrowed computer. Please know I am not leaving and will bounce back from this. Pray for me, keep me in your thoughts and hopefully I will be back full time soon. Who else is unemployed and struggling to make ends meet?

debrakcarey ! I am sure you will get another job soon. Please try in similar capacities and also in other areas which u can take like baby sitting, shop saleswoman etc. This is third or fourth posting I have seen wherein some person has told he/she is out of job. This is not unusual considering the way things are going on. Incidentally I find people of 75 years age working in costco, meijer and all. If only they reduce the maximum age to 70 many other young people will get jobs in US. this is my view. Try to be of help to your daughter. If she has kids you will have time in managing them. good day.

Sorry to hear that! Remember tough times don't last but tough people do. I have two Scriptures that I keep in mind when having financial problems. I hope they also help you. Matthew 6:33 Today's New International Version (TNIV) 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Hebrews 13:5 Today's New International Version (TNIV) 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” I wish you well!

Thanks onehopefulman, the scriptures are a comfort to me. Perhaps this is a resite from daily work schedule so that I can concentrate on what God wants me to do. I have been studying more lately and it helps me keep a positive outlook. Thanks for the encouragment.

Are you able to draw unemployment? I am glad that you have someone to move in with and that is helpful. I hope you find a solution that works for you. I have been unemployed for just over a year. I am about at the end of all my extensions for unemployment.

I have applied but the company is contesting it and it will take awhile to get approved. Yes, I am very fortunate to have family who are able to help. I thank God for them. This has put a strain on them as well and I regret putting them on the spot. I do have some talents and skills that are much needed, its just a matter of finding an open spot. Life is going to get even more difficult if something isn't done about our economy. I will be here on and off, just not as much as before. I am having withdrawals, lol. I hope you are able to find something as well, what line of work are you in? Healthcare is almost a sure thing and other lines of employment do not have many openings, I hope you find something soon.

I'm not a regular participant in your posts but I can sympathize even though my circumstances are very different. I have been unemployed for over 20 years, but I have always been very frugal and saved over 20% of my income when I was employed which has allowed me to live O'K from the income I got from investments. About your internet connection problem. Most libraries will provide you with Internet access for free or for a nominal annual fee with their computers. In my area there is a resort casino place that I have been told also has computers that people can use although it is limited to 30 min per person which may only apply if there are others waiting. Then, of course, if you have your own laptop there are coffee houses, restaurants and hotels that have free access. The coffee houses and restaurants want you to buy something which could be as little as a cup of coffee. I think some hotels still have free access and might even allow you to use it in the lobby or even outside if a connection can be made. Good luck.

My ex husband has been good enough to let me use his computer and internet once in awhile. Good thing we've been cordial all these years. lol Our local library also has internet service for a small fee. I just dislike using a public computer. I will if I have to though. Thanks for your response stealthy.

Oh, I will miss you!! Thank God your daughter is willing to take you in--I hope your stay deepens your love for each other. Your profile doesn't say where you live but Comfort Keepers is in a lot of states and they are hiring right now. Nothing I'm qualified for but you are probably a person they would want. I hope things are better for you very soon. Look into Angel Food Ministries for cheap, high quality food at around half price, they're on the internet. You'll be in my prayers!

I will be on once in awhile, my ex husband is nice enough to let me use his computer once a week or so. I thank you for your prayers and my family's support. I have applied to our local hospices and home care agencies and have about 20 other applications out there as well. We do have an Angel Food program here too but for now we are doing ok in that department. I will miss my time with my friends here as well, but I am NOT gone only limited in my time here.

Debra, I am so sorry to hear that you lost your job. Absolutely I will be praying for you. Hold on to your faith and know that when one door closes another opens, eventually. Thankfully your daughter is helping you out. Know that we will all miss you and definitely will be praying. I have been unemployed for the first time in my entire life for over a year now. No one want to hire a person like me with a Master's degree and many say I am way too overqualified. I am going to Arkansas in two weeks to work out the final details and see if I will be moving there as things are way to rough for us here currently. Know that there are some really rough days coming but holding on to faith and continuing to persist will get you back on your feet. Best of luck and do keep in touch.

i will pray for you. it surely going to be tough for you in the coming days. i'm planning to quit my job but im still hesitant to pass my resignation. i have bills to pay and i need to eat. the reason why i want to quit is the job is tiring me. it's not that we do a lot, it's actually the other way around. my colleagues asked me to take my time off from the office to relax.. instead of quitting. i guess i'll take it. i know it's gonna be hard once i quit. goodluck to you. i know u'll be fine..

MGkjaid ji dear friend please before you quit your job do have another one all lined up . if you are here in the U S the unemployment is now just terrible and all who have jobs no matter how awful are hanging on to them for dear life as all large companies are cutting back on employees so more and more are added to the unemployment line and few jobs for hundred that want each one. terrible situation here.

I agree with hatley MGjhaud; take a break but don't quit. I understand being tired, but the whole world's economy is bad right now, not just in USA. It is good to have a job. Thank you for your prayers, I will remember you as well when I pray. Take care.

Hi, Debra I hope you will soon get a job or some income - the times are hard for many. I have been unemployed several times but in the end found some job, and now I am retired with a very low pension. I can still live a decent life thanks to the social advantages for retired people as we can get help with the rent depending on our income. I have no relatives to move to here, so if I didn´t have this help, I don´t know what I would do. So far Sweden has some security like this for elderly people. Anyway, it is sometimes an advantage to learn to cope with a small income. I hardly ever buy clothes in a store except some necessary things, but I like to go to second hand shops and often find something useful there. My friends can come with clothes that they have found and give to me, sometimes really nice ones. When I buy food, I often look for special offers. It is a blessing to be able to deal with a low income, as when we get these blows, we are already used to it and can cope better. I hope things look better for you in the future..

It is great that you stay positive - I am now testing a completely free program that may soon start working - so far it looks good. I have joined the bank they will be using and there are a few more steps to take. Nothing in this world is 100% but this program may solve economy problems for many. At least it is free, so there is no risk.

Thank you buenavida, I know what you mean about low income. I had moved up to a slightly higher income bracket, but as we know there are no guarantees in life. Hand in there, we cannot give up or give in to life's hardships. I am going to stay positive as I am sure you are too. Thanks for your response and encouragment.

I am so so sorry to hear of your corrent situation. I shall pray that things will turn out for the best. Now many senior American (including myself) are being threatened that they may not receive their SS checks. This is money I have paid into the SS Fund for almost 40 years and now the government has been using the fund as if it were their own personal piggy bank.

Hi whiteheather, I agree; it is wrong for them to use that threat to avoid facing the problems they have created for all of us. One of the things I miss most is not being able to discuss what is currently going on in DC right now due to limited internet access. thank you for your prayers my friend, I know I can count on you. God Bless!

Oh no Debra... I noticed you haven't been active lately.. I am glad you have a place to go and I am sure that you will get another job soon..:) I am unemployed and trying to make ends meet, sometimes it feels like it will always be this way, but I know that sooner or later, (hopefully sooner) that things will improve...The only drawback would be I'd be less active here if I got a job, because I am still taking college classes, but it will be worth it once all is done and over with..

You are correct on the loans, there may be be as much now. In fact, thanks to cut backs, I am getting a few hundred dollars less from my pell grant, than I did my first year..So now it is a struggle because I have to come up with money to pay for part of my books, if not all of them...

I've considered going back to school myself. Just not able to NOT work, to many committments. But, I may decide to anyway. Trouble is, will the money be there for the loans with our economy the way it is? Glad you are able to get an education, it is very important in this day and age.

I'm sorry to hear about your job.I do hope you can find another one soon. It's really hard to cope if you don't have a regular income, any way it's good you still have a private duty care to support for your internet bills. I too is unemployed for almost 3 years now and I know what it feels if you don't have regular earnings.Internet earnings is not sufficient but at least it can help a little.I hope you'll be back soon and wish you all the best.

First of all, I'm going to let you know that we are on the same boat. You are not the only one whom life has dealt with a painful blow. There are thousands and even millions of them struggling out there to survive life's fatal blows. I admire your strength and your resilience. Those are the traits that I hope would never run out of my system. Your faith and trust in God will eventually pull you out of this dismal condition. I will be praying for you and hopefully will see you back soon. Move on in life's journey with optimism. Take courage and face life as a winner, not a loser.
