I called the driver

overloaded - it is not safe to move behind trucks
India
July 14, 2011 7:15am CST
Hubby is going out again tomorrow to meet his Guruji and seek his blessings; he will go and come back; in a hired air-conditioned Sumo van. We called the driver today, the fare was settled. I have told him to drive very carefully and slowly, so that hubby lying on the rear seat won’t feel uncomfortable; I also told him to maintain good gap between his van and the loaded trucks. We see here, when the truck in front applies breaks suddenly, the small vehicle behind dashes in, gets crushed. I want him move there safely and comfortably. I know accidents can be avoided by careful driving. What is your opinion? Does accidents are common in your place, what precautions you take during journey. Please respond. Thanks in advance. Kalyani ‘Namastey’. . God bless you to enjoy a lucky day ahead.

Dear aunty you are right we can avoid accidents. But now new generation dont understand this they drive the vehicle very fast and after few minutes thay fall down due to accidents. Delay is best than for safe life but now everyone wants to go first and they drive the vehicle like racing. They never wants to think what will happen in next moment. I want to suggest every mylotter that lots of family members are waiting for them so drive slow and careful.

Yes, we can avoid accidents as long we are careful driving on the road. Road accidents are quite common in my area, too. Rushing must be out from the driver's head. Because rushing can cause accidents most of the time. The driver must be alert and maintain his driving, to avoid getting into accidents. Hope your hubby will be fine soon.

Accidents can happen anywhere. It is the order of the day. I ask the driver to drive slowly. I try to avoid night journey in the car. But sometimes it is unavoidable.

I prefer to drive myself most of the time. The last time I took a cab the driver got a flat tire on the freeway but still drove over three miles before pulling into a parking lot. I do try to drive slower than most traffic because the speed limit where I get on the freeway is 70 miles per hour and I generally drive 60 because it saves gas and it is a little safer. Accidents will happen, especially if cars and trucks drive too close together. Here we try to follow the three second rule--when the vehicle in front of you passes a landmark (say a sign), count the time until you reach that sign. If it is less than three seconds, slow down because you are too close. That would be one of the best ways to keep from crashing into the vehicle in front of you. I hope he had a safe trip. Have a great weekend!!!

It is too common for automobile accidents to happen around here and it really is something that bothers me because there are a lot of people that meet the end of their lives early because of being involved in a car accident. The main thing is that the majority of accidents could be avoided if people would only use a little bit of common sense when they are driving. I've been lucky to have never been involved in an accident when I was actually moving, but I've seen them happen and it is typically because of driving too fast, following too close or driving while impaired that they happen.

Careless driving causes accidents. We try to be rested enough when we take a trip. Yes we do not follow too closely and we drive carefully. We follow the speed limit and watch for the hazards.

There are a few accidents but I think we all use caution when driving...the biggest thing right now is getting those people who are texting or talking on their cell phones to stop doing it unless they pull over to the side of the road!

Accident can be prevented by being cautious and I like the way you care for your husband and the family. When i ride a taxi or my ebike with three wheels I see to it that I drive slow and follow all the roads rules and regulations. And drivers must always be taught on proper driving.

dear maa, Accidents really happens here, but not too many cases in a day. Mostly it happens during early morning when truck banned lifts and trucks are roaring on the roads. And some drivers are too sleepy that caused the accidents with small vehicles or big ones. I hope and pray for dada's safe travel. Hugs to you, dada and shubee

I think the main problem here is still drunk driving especially in the early morning when people just go out of the bar and this mixes with sleepiness, also some young drivers are very aggressive on the road. We always pray before travelling. Tell hubby to take care and my prayers are with him.

Accidents happen everywhere not just here or in your place. I agrree with you that drivers should maintain a space in front of the next vehicle so that they will avoid accidents especially when there is a sudden stop.

I think accidents happen wherever there are busy roads and negligent drivers, which is just about everywhere! Some terrible accidents happen here, but if you have sent your husband with a good driver who is sober and has a lot of driving experience, then I am sure that the journey will go well! The only way you can prevent accidents is by being constantly aware of what is happening around you, and having the experience to react quickly if something does happen that is unexpected on the road. Good luck for your husband's journey - let us know when he returns safely!

I agree with you accidents occur due to careless driving mainly by truck drivers and other taxi drivers. I am happy that Professor sir took a cab for visit to guruji. I remember last time he went on a scooter and he had back ache and allied problems. I believe 90% is in our hand and 10% is in the hands of God -- reckless driving of others can cause accidents. Let us hope always in a positive way that accidents shall not happen.
