hello everyone, i had been gifted with a 4GB usb flash drive very recently and i was so excited to use it. in the office, i tried viewing some of the pictures copied into it and i was able to view the same. there were videos there too but since it is the office, i told myself that i will just see it at home. but when i inserted the usb in my computer at home, it would not read it. can anyone tell me why this is so? is there such a thing as higher version usb flash drive? am using xp in my computer. ann

Make sure you have Service Pack 2 and 3 (SP2 and SP3) updates to your XP operating system. They are very big files and are on the cover discs of magazines or can be downloaded from Microsoft (in time!) SP" must be installed first. If the upgrades are already installed then check on My Computer or Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) to see if XP has found the USB drive - sometimes called removable drive. If so then you should be able to open it like any other drive. If it is not found then unplug it and put it in another USB slot - crazy I know but it sometimes works. Let us know what happens.

There are many reasons for this occurrence, one of which may be the fact that the first computer you used infected the usb thus rendered everything in there useless and unreadable - the solution is formatting it. Another could be the fact that the usb drive of your pc at home may not be functioning well or is disconneted - try using another one. Perhaps checking versions would be better. Though usb are plug and play type of devices, perhaps you need an installer for it, perhaps there's a conflict with the operating systems. A good way to check if it is a factory defect or soemthing is by re-inserting the same usb in your office computer again or another device (perhaps a friends or something). Should it work perfectly in another device, then the problem truly is your pc. However, if it doesn't work anymore, then it's time to go back to where you bought it and replace it - I'm pretty sure it still is in warranty. Good luck! Have a great MyLot experience today!

use this instead. - USB hard-drive can contain large volume of files for a long period of time
Hello tigeraunt, You can't really rely on USB flash disk if you're having a lot of files and videos that yo need to watch. have you asked that person if the USB he or she gave you is NEW or used already? what you need is a USB hard-drive and not the flash. my former boss use that people and the important literally went blank. . how many files and videos that were on that USB?

Hello. Plug in the USB stick into the xp machine and then go to disk management. To get there go to Start Control panel Administrative Tools Computer Management. Then at the side go to Disk Management. Post back how many at what disks there are. If it's been recognised but not mounted it should show up there.

Sorry forgot that part. Administrative Tools is under performance and maintenance. It's one of the little link at the bottom.

There seems to be a mistake in your insertion of the drive. Or, your USB port is not properly connected to the system. Try inserting some other drive into the port. There is only a minor problem in your working.

Hi, tigeraunt. You say the new usb-flash drive is not recognized on your pc. How do you know there are files on it? Did you check it at your office if the files got loaded? If it is not recognized on your pc there must be some compatibility problem. Take it back to the supplier. Find out how you should overcome this problem making the modifications in system files. Very risky method. If the usb drive is being shown in 'My Computer' and you cannot see any files in it, there are no files that you recorded. Videos take time to copy onto the usb drives. Maybe you did not load the files properly. Try again. This time do it after quick-formatting. Also try first to transport one large file of a known format. Video files can be in different formats. All of them may not play in Windows media player or some other popular media players like Real, divx etc.

Their is nothing wrong on your computer possible on your USB. Did you safely remove your USB to your Office PC? If its not possible the data you got was corrupted. Try to check it on My computer if your USB is detected.

Hello tigeraunt! Have you tried inserting the flash drive to other USB ports available in your computer? I don't know what your computer looks like but at the back you will usually see 4 available USB ports or slots and 2 at the front. I guess you could try that one and check if it works. I think you have inserted the flash drive to a port that does not support the new version of USB. Newer versions of flash drives support the USB 2.0 version. If your computer doesn't have that one then you can still download a software to install so that it can read newer versions of USB. Good day! Hope this one helps.

use an extra usb hub connector this may work because sometimes every pen drive does't works in usb port of every computers. apart from this copy the data in your office computer then format it with LOW LEVEL FORMATTING software then use it at your home, i hope it will work. one more thing please check at your device manager in your pc that usb port is enabled or disabled, if so then enable it. i hope it will work BEST OF LUCK.
