Mylot - Making money? Making friends?

July 18, 2011 6:39am CST
Do people actually use Mylot to make a living? I've been on Mylot for awhile now. I love talking to people about life, sharing opinions, finding out things i didn't know, getting other peoples advice. I just love it! I've got some really useful hints and tips off the Mylot community and i enjoy being able to voice my opinions and give my useful hints and tips.. But i've noticed recently a lot more things being said about how Mylot is a way to earn a "wage" .. now i don't know about everyone else, but i don't have enough things to say to start 25+ discussions a day.. and i assume this is how many i would need to start to earn a decent amount of money? I think the most discussions i've started in one day is like 4 or 5 or something.. and even then it was only because i'd a lot on my mind. I don't really like the thought of people just picking 10 random topics and posting discussions about them, where people are actually taking their time to respond, when in reality, the people couldn't care less about what people respond, it's just adding to their profit.. What are everyone elses opinions on this, and do some people believe it is possible to actually use Mylot for what it is intended, and make some good money?

Well, i think everyone in this world is crazy about money(including me). But you have a new thought. That's good. I also joined mylot to make some money. But in a way, you are right that its not possible to start 25 discussions a day. i m doing just 4 or 5. Now i m doing it only for fun because i would like to see the notification emails from mylot. Money, well..its an added advantage..Dear we can't make a wage from mylot..

i don't really plan on earning a wage as such from my lot. i see people with 20,000+ beside their names that haven't even been on mylot that long and it just baffles me how they do it!
18 Jul 11
i dont think i'd want to do as much as that.. i think if you worked at mylot for ages and ages and ages, you would end up hating it like any other job.. i lilke that i love it :)

Hi friend, I am sorry, the last sentence of my earlier note was not referred to you. I know you are one with a different mindset. Still this time i didn't noticed how long people are here. And i am not sure that if i can do that much of work in my time being here.

I like the idea of meeting new people and sharing thoughts with them cool, but getting paid is amazing! But this is truly pocket change--the most I've ever earned in a day was maybe $1.50 or so--and while it's nice, gas at that time (if I recall correctly) was heading to $4 a gallon in NJ! But back then, mylot WAS my full time job! Now I have a very physically demanding job, so I don't get to be here as much as I'd like. So now it's mostly for fun--but making money IS fun!

The key is to have FUN making money. Few people can say I Love My Job and be 100% honest. I used to be able to say that, but with the recession I was forced to close my business and find a job.
26 Jul 11
IF YOU DON'T MIND ME ASKING, WHAT WAS YOUR BUSINESS? AND HOW DID YOU START IT? AND DID YOU MAKE A GOOD LIVING?? sorry for the caps!

i suppose mylot os something that proves earning a little extra money CAN be fun.. which is something in this day and age none of us agree with. most people hate their job, and become so obsessed with money.. it's nice that doing something in your spare time, thats actually benefitting people, can be fun :)

In my opinion, just responding and starting a discussion will not earn you a "wage". You have to have a real job, and just have mylot as a sideline. In here, you enjoy while you earn.

It is obvious from their discussion, having them in two liners or a bit more, that they just want to earn. But little do they know that as long as they don't respond accordingly , they don't earn anything for it.
19 Jul 11
oh i totally agree. I work full time 9-5 everyday, and mylot is purely fun for me.. I;m not interested in the earning whatsoever.. i just don't like people who start meaningless discussions, with one or two lines, and then dont even reply to the comments, because they actually dont care.. they just wanna make money!

shhhh!! don't tell them lol!!

I think you will need to devote a lot of time and effort if you would like to use myLot as means to earn a living. But in my observation, most people here have other earning sites or have work in th real world making myLot as a means of earning additional income only. As for me that is my plan in using myLot. I just want to turn my online endeavor into something productive which is earning money. I'm not really a hardcore earner in here as I take my time in using it and I only post when I feel I want to and not because I want to target a certain amount of earning.
19 Jul 11
i like your way of thinking! you want to make money and enjoy the online earning aspect of things, but you are only going to do real and meaningful things to earn it! i like that :)
19 Jul 11
exactly, because if you see mylot as somewhere to earn money, like a job, then you will hate it and become bored and complacent with it, much like your job.. working and earning, takes away the fun factor! without the fun factor.. it would feel like a chore rather than something interesting to do in your spare time :)

Thanks at that! I really want to exercise every optionin my life and not be tied up ding something that I don't enjoy. Sometimes posting in myLot is very much eenjoyable but sometimes too I feel lazy to post. I always have a choice depending on my mood in here. But if your goal in here is just to earn, you are obligated by your goal to post or else you won't earn. The carefree choice is then taken away from you because of such a goal. So my goal in here is to enjoy and earning becomes a bonus in my carefree myLot habit.

I don't see how this is possible to start 25 or more discussions per day. For me it's not possible because I haven't enough to say and I did not write a book to discuss whatever is going on in my life. So I'm wondering how it's possible to make a wages from MyLot.
26 Jul 11
i dont know some people manage to write a lot.. it baffles me where they find the time either to be honest!

yes I can agree with you. Time is very important. I'm new here and I love to be here but I have no time to post all day long. I have other things to do.

i completely agree!!

I just joined MyLot today. I should've learned about this earlier! I'm MyLotting while working actually.. LOL! It's fun and at the same time helps me earn a bit of money. I also love reading other's stories and give a cent or two on some categories :D And I do share the same thoughts with you. I don't really treat MyLot as my income-generating work alternative or something. I just treat MyLot as some sort of stress reliever while earning LOL!
25 Jul 11
haha thats my feelings exactly! i see it as a stress reliever! july is a very quiet month for the company i work for, and without mylot this past month i would literally have torn my hair out.. i've made $5.34 in this one month and see to be honest, i didn't even notice i made it! i was just having fun!! welcome to mylot!! :)
25 Jul 11
you will i love it! some peoples discussions have actually really opened my eyes to a lot of things. i've got new music to download, new websites to try out, new recipies, hints and tips on dog training. it's actually a wealth of knowledge out there and the best part is, its personal experiences and not nonsense no one has tried and no one even knows if it works etc!

We do get some money here but to make a living out of it, I don't think so. I could not live on the earning we get here because it is not much really. I do like earning some extra money while at the same time enjoying myself, interacting and learning from others. But to make this as a means of livelihood is impossible.
19 Jul 11
yes thats exactly what i mean! i love the earning because its a great reward for being kind and helpful and friendly, and a great little bonus to having fun, but i don't think people should use this as a way to make money, i think people should first and formost use this as social networking to make friends, help people and make a difference!!

Well, I used to go on MyLot on a daily basis until we had to move, and then i got very busy. The last time i logged on to mylot was sometime last year. And it's sad that when I logged in at the beginning of this month, I found that I lost all my earnings. I don't even remember how much I earned that time, but although I had fun joining the discussions, it's still sucks to see your earnings revert back to $0.00.
19 Jul 11
i do agree that would be horrible. i did that. i joined mylot and worked away and when i signed up i got like a $2 incentive, i had about $6 and didn't really come on for awhile.. and then when i did i was at $0.00 like yourself. i was a little hurtful and disheartening, but now i'm working away and having fun, and i have some earningsnow.. and it's given me more of a push to stay active :)

Maybe it is possible for someone to earn as much on mylot as in a position in reality .But if it is feasible ,one has to devote a large amount of time to posting discussions .I feel the same way as you .It is impossible for me to start 20+ posts in a day .To my mind ,one should talk about something for that he wants to communicate wtih others .If one just makes up some discussions to earn money ,he must be tired and bored .I can't do it anyway .
19 Jul 11
i agree with you completely!! i start discussions about things on my mind, but even then its 4 or 5 a day max!! and i put effort into what i say and write paragraphs! i don't just write 3 sentances on about 20 discussions just to make sure i make $1 or more that day, i think thats wrong!! :)

I just use mylot for the fun of it and the earnings are a great side-effect. I wonder if it is even possible to start earning a 'wage' here that allows you to quit your day job, I highly doubt it. How much would you have to write? My guess is unlimited discussions to be answered and photo's to be uploaded. Maybe with referrals? Well I have none so I don't know if that would help. I think MyLot is just a cool way to interact with different people from all kinds of countries, share experiences and have fun!
18 Jul 11
thats the way i see it personally myself, just a great way to earn a little money by having fun! i've never made enough to withdraw any money from mylot, and to be honest i don't really care.. it breaks up my day in work and gives me something to look forward to throughout the day :)

I use mylot to gain friends and share my simple views about their subjects. I want to explore the world with its highly animated and interesting characters - that's the mylotters. I am enjoying my stay here after few weeks of joining. The money is indeed a great plus but the pleasure and bliss you get from this site is undeniably awesome. Happy mylotting!

I started using myLot, honestly, to make extra money while I'm home. But as I use it everyday, my intention of using it changed. I realized how fun it is to use, and it's very enlightening. I get opinions on various topics, I get good advice on my problem or dilemma, and I get to voice out what I have to say too. Also, it's really cool to think that I'm able to interact with people from all around the world. It's just very fun to read different opinions from different people from different places.
19 Jul 11
i like that too, i like talking to people from all over the world. i live in the uk and its nice to talk to people from different countries and hear different ways of life and points of view :) :)

I was hoping to earn much when I started my activity here. And I found out that it really depends on how much time you spend in myLot and how you interact with people here. If you can spend 8 hours on myLot, I say you will earn enough to pay some bills. However it is not easy to stay that long and interact sensibly to comments or post discussions.Cause we still need to be responding accordingly and think of interesting relevant topics that would attract myLotters so they will give their views on topics you are hosting. It is mentally exhausting to stay for 8 hours . For me, I have learned to enjoy giving my views and opinions. And when I think of a topic that I am so excited about, that's the only time that I open a discussion. This way, I won't notice if I am earning much or not.But the good news is, I am really earning without noticing it at all.
18 Jul 11
yeah i totally get what you mean, and its typing speed as well, because even if you were able to sit for 2 hours and be sensible about what you say and write, some people type slower than others, and some people could get through hundreds of comments in the space of time others could get through 20, 40, 50 etc.. i think the money side of things is just a little bonus for finding something both enjoyable and helpful :)

I haven't set a goal of earning a living through Mylot and I'm sure that is highly unlikely to happen and it's an unrealistic objective.I don't thin k it's possible to make really good money from Mylot,I am here to participate in interesting discussions and to gain some extra money that would make my life a little easier.I also noticed there are people who start many discussions daily, and sometimes I wonder how they manage to have so many ideas to start new topics daily,I can only agree with you that many of them are interested in making profit fast and don't really care about the responses they get.
19 Jul 11
yeah, i dont like that.. i dont like people just making a discussion up about anything at all JUST to make money. i'm sure if people looked through some of my discussions like about "coca-cola" for example.. they'd be like whatt this girls mad shes just writing about anything, but i'm not.. i'll make discussions about everything and anythings thats on my mind.. but i'll put effort into that discussion.. not just take 10-20 random thoughts and write a half hearted discussion just to make money!

Using mylot to make a living? Nah. Well yes even though I do like sharing opinions, finding new stuffs and gaining new knowledge, it is still only a side job for me. A little extra income, you might say. And yes, its quite a chore to start 20+ discussions a day and having to reply to them all day. Thus, I don't take mylot as a personal money making scheme, rather, I enjoy the process of mylotting( writing stuff, gaining new knowledge etc).
18 Jul 11
i enjoy the process of mylotting to! i am a proud mylotter and i have suggested it to people before :) .. i think a little extra income is just a great incentive to do something productive and worthwhile with your internet usage :)
