Some kind of daisy? What are these? I need help.

Mystery flowers - I don't know what these are but I like them and plan to collect the seeds to start more. Do you know what they are?

I have flowers growing in my flower garden but have absolutely no idea what they are. Have you seen these flowers? I did not plant them here and this is the first year they're appeared here. The two shorter ones are newer blossoms; the taller two have passed their prime. I thought they were weeds at first but they're just too pretty. If they are weeds, I'm going to encourage more to grow and collect the seeds they produce. (I do this with all my flowers... saves a LOT of money that way!) They look a lot like some kind of fancy daisy. Do you know what these flowers are? They're about 12" to 18" tall.

It is a coneflower. Daisies have smaller centers. The coneflowers are also fragrant. Well, daisies are too but the ones I have smelled in the store stunk badly. If it has a nice fragrance it is a coneflower. Here is a photo of a daisy: http://www.zazzle.com/shasta_daisy_gone_crazy_poster-228831370808958259 http://www.waltersgardens.com/plants/view/?plant=586

I'll have to go out and smell them but I didn't think they were coneflowers since their leaves are very different from other coneflowers. I adore coneflowers and have planted several different kinds, including a white one called "Virgin" but I'm positive I never planted a coneflower like this. All the other coneflowers have wider and longer leaves. Thank you for the links. The link to Walters Gardens had a photo of a "Crazy Daisy" (Shasta Daisy) that seems to have larger centers than the ones on the other site, but not quite as large as my flowers. I've also looked up coneflowers and didn't see any that looked like these. Maybe they're a mutant?

Crazy Daisy - Crazy Daisies, also known as Shasta daisies.
These look like my flowers. These are "Crazy Daisies". The leaves are closer in appearance to mine, from what I can tell from this photo.

They do seem to be a variant of the Shasta daisy called Crazy Daisy. There are several types of Shasta Daisy, and Crazy falls under the Shasta variety. http://www.americanmeadows.com/perennials/shasta-daisy/shasta-daisy-crazy-daisy http://www.daytonnursery.com/Encyclopedia/Images/Perennials/Leucanthemum%20%27Snowdrift%27.jpg http://trees.naturehills.com/search/index?query=daisy&filters[status][0]=InStock It looks like either a snowdrift or crazy. Whatever it is, it is very pretty!

i think you are right. they must be a wild flower. for i have seen these grow all along the road and in feilds in ohio. i think most of our beautiful flowers did start out as wild flowers any way. i think like dragon says, the birds spread the seeds by eating and dropping in different areas and thats whats happened. wild flowers are all so beautiful along with the ones we plant ourselves. is this in your home you moved to?

No, this is the one I'm moving out of but I'll definitely dig them up and take them with me. The final move should happen around the end of this month and I plan to take as many things that I've planted as I can. He doesn't deserve them, he has shown no interest in anything outside. He's never even used the barbeque grill once! I have no idea why he wanted to move here so badly. Anyway, the flower turned out to be a form of Shasta Daisy called "Crazy Daisy". Since this just appeared here, it may just be what you saw all around Ohio. I love wildflowers, too. I bought a box of wildflower seeds and just threw them around our property on the other side of the road. A lot grew but I haven't noticed any Shasta Daisies growing there. Maybe mine is a gift from a bird. I have Blackeyed Susans that just appeared in my yard (in another house) that I've brought with me each time I moved. I'll be digging them up and taking them with me to the new house, along with as many flowers as I can dig up here. I have 3 acres at the new house that are pretty bare right now so I'm going to have fun making it pretty with my flowers.

They look like some type of daisy to me too. Interesting that they just appeared like this. No one else near you has these? I think you are wanting to do something good by saving some of the seeds. I have never seen anything like this around here, and actually wish I could. These are prettier than the weed type flowers, etc. you see growing here in everyone's grass.

I'm thinking that these flower seeds got stuck in with some coneflower seeds I planted. Not all seeds grow the year you plant them. Some can stay dormant for years before they germinate. Mother Nature is an amazing thing sometimes. My flowers turned out to be a kind of Shasta daisy called 'Crazy Daisy'. I've thought about getting some for years but never did buy any plants or seeds. Now, I'm glad I didn't because I have "free" plants. I just hope the seeds from these flowers are viable. We've had such a horrible heat wave recently! It got up to 105 yesterday. Luckily, it's cooling off some now, only reaching 97 today. (Of course, that heat index got up to 104!) This extreme weather has got to stop! I hope it's not as severe where you live.

I've never seen those before but they are pretty. They look like they just woke up with "bed head"! There are a lot of weeds that are so beautiful that I would grow them as flowers. I have some that look like sunflowers under the bird feeder this year and they're really pretty. I guess the birds left me a thank you gift of flowers! Are you all moved out/in?

Oh, geez, I forgot your last question. Not all moved yet but making progress. I'm still packing and will be renting a U-haul trailer since it will be a LOT cheaper that way than making many trips just filling my SUV. (Gas for each trip is around $75.00 so I have to be as frugal as I can.) I'm pretty sure my husband is in denial, though. He seems to be walking on eggshells, trying not to rock the boat. It's just a case of too little, too late. Maybe he'll try to stop me from the final move when that gets closer but he won't be successful. More than likely, he'll just sit here and wait for me to come back, which I won't, of course. Once most of the smaller things have been moved (which should be only one more trip down there), I'm hiring professional movers to get the furniture. I'm not going to mess with that; too heavy! I should be all moved out by the end of this month.
