RIP Yuwie

Well it isn't dead until August 1st, but it might as well have been for the last 2 years or so. Just got a notification that Yuwie is shutting down August 1st due to it no longer being profitable. This is not a huge shock. Almost from the moment it opened there were problems. Despite there being a lot of people who loved the site, the problems ended up being big enough that people left in droves. The ones who didn't leave due to the spam, annoying ads, viruses, system slowness and other problems, ended up leaving due to the attitude of the owner and/or the bullying by a certain clique there. But Yuwie wasn't a total loss. I'm not talking about the $23 and change that I made there. I'm talking about the friends. A Yuwie friend referred me to myLot, and additionally I made friends there that I believe will be friends for life. I had a lot of fun there for a while too. Pity that it didn't work out, but that's life. RIP Yuwie...

I haven't been on Yuwie in a long time. I tried it and was pretty active, but it just wasn't worth it for me. I'd spend time finding a funny picture or saying, then spend all day posting it on my friends pages. I'd talk to people and do all the things they recommend to make money, and at the end of the day I'd make 1 cent. I needed something more effective.

And the BIG promotions for how much you could make. Just add 3 people and have them add 3 and so on. Yeah sure, IF you could find people who were active maybe...

@ivyparkgirl It's unnecessary, and possibly against the rules, to repeat your same comment over and over again.

Wow, there's a name I haven't heard of in years..When did you sign up? I was there about 3-4 years ago and I only stuck around for a few months when I saw I was making absolutely nothing there..I mean sure it took my a while to get a payout on mylot, but I saw my earnings grow daily, not on Yuwie and I am surprised it made it this far..

I signed up in either October or September 2007, so a few months after the site started. Yeah, it wasn't much of an earning site unless you were really good at getting referrals and/or cheating the system. But I sure did make some good friends there.

I did too, but most of the friends I knew well either had an account here or on Myspace, and truthfully, they also left Yuwie..Well at least you are given time to exchange contact info before they shut down completely..

I must have signed up 3 years ago, and have never really done anything there. Thanks for letting us know about it's demise... it didn't seem like it would be a sustainable site to me...

Unfortunately that has been happening very often with most of these sites, I just hope that it doesn't happen with mylot, I personally wouldn't be sad and disappointed.

I had not thought about this site in forever. I believe I may have joined a couple of years ago and never really could get "into it". So, I left and never looked back. It seems from what others said $23 is a pretty amazing number to make on there! Well, I guess like all sites they stay for a while then something else comes along and you just move on.

Some people claim to have made pretty decent money there, but most people never came close to my $23, I think.

This is the first I have heard of this site, unfortunately there are a lot of sites out there that have had the same problem. It's not a shock to hear that most of these sites are shutting down. I do hope however mylot stays active, this is personally my favorite site at this time...

Yuwie was the first or one of the first though, and really successful at the start. And then it all went downhill...

I've heard of Yuwie before. I wanted to join until I realized that you really make money on this site based on referrals. Was that the only way you made money on Yuwie?

pretty much, I had 51 referrals and in those 51 referrals, they made me 20. but still not worth it cuz out of all those referrals, I only made 29cents

It was based on page views. You got paid for your page views, and your referrals page views down 10 levels. If you could get 10 levels of referrals, and if they were active, you could do OK.

It was not a site that I liked or felt comfortable on. It did not grab my attention. It seems that many sites start, take off well, and then die.

I never joined there because they needed my S.S. number and I wasn't about to give it out. I'd probably have become lost there myself though I've heard from you and others that it was a great site... It seems it's stuck around awhile even after it's downfall.

wow! it took this long for the site to close down? lol! seriously, that site had 'fail' written all over it. i was a member there but never really earned anything. those that earned from the site are indeed lucky to get something out of their participation there. the site is wrong in so many different levels. anyway, i understand about the 'friends' part. perhaps, you can invite them here in mylot dawnald? i'm sure they'll find it interesting here in mylot. completely different dynamic but still good nonetheless.

well that's good to hear dawnald. hopefully, those who signed up with mylot enjoy their stay here and earn as well. kinda hard keeping in touch with friends when the social networking site you met them at closes down. not a rare instance as it happens a lot but it's good that you've managed to stay in touch with your yuwie friends. good for you indeed.

I never made anything on it. I deleted my account about two or more years ago. There was another one like it I was on and forgot what it was so couldn't go there anymore. Pays to write things down. I usually do. I did enjoy time spent there for awhile but got bored with it early on. There was a guy on there bugging me all time with some new gimick. He continued to follow me to this day. Ugh!

I joined Yuwie bebore even hearing of mylot, but never understood exactkly how it worked so I just left. I hadn´t herd of it in a long while. I remember a time where there was always a page promoting it. I hated it. Maybe that´s what drove me away from it.

bye yuwie - you did the best you could
Hello dawnald, I don't think yuwie was a good site to me, because it solely earns more on the referral ground, more like an online Multi-Level thing that only recruit members for you to earn from having people join and instead of being active there. when mylot came and other social networking sites, things were a lot better and yuwie started loosing members. but at least they had the decency to inform us that they're shutting unlike friendster who actually turned into a gaming site and erased all of our memories there.

I am glad you joined Yuwie, and a friend referred you to this site. Honestly, you are one of the most logical persons I've come across. May be it is your German blood. But I like reading your discussion, and your responses. There is a lot of consistency in what you state Dawny.

On the other hand, I get flustered and borderline nasty in phone conversations with people who are being unreasonable. Here I have time to sit back and think...

Dawny - I need a lot of time to think right and wrong. There are many times I cant make up my mind. I tend to defer taking decisions. When it cant be done anymore, I do the ini mini mina mo act. I really do! I simply cant think straight at times. I also never saw one place out here where you got flustered with anybody. I on the other hand have been close to being nasty with a couple of people luckily from my country simply because I couldnt logically talk sense to them. Rather what I thought was sense. So to me, you are somebody I want to emulate. As to being consistent in action.. I think that is common with everybody. But at least you know what is right and wrong.

The concept there was great. But they never seemed to be able to get all the bugs out. It's hard to figure out why some sites can take care of that and others can't. Luckily most people there can find each other on other social sites.

Yuwie was never a site I could get into. I know I joined it many yrs. ago as a referal from someone here on myLot and just was never thrilled with it. There are a lot of different Social Networking sites and things that have been online over the yrs. and many of them did not phase me for something worth wanting to do or be a part of. For it to now just be leaving actually surprises me that it could last this long.

Well, I never was a member of Yuwie, but there have been some sites that I've been a member of in the past that ended up closing down and I will admit that I went through grief for those sites when they were gone. Yeah, it isn't always about the money that you make from a site, I really do think that it is far more about the people that you are able to meet from being a member of a site. So, RIP Yuwie, even though I really didn't know you.

Hiya dawn, I was in Yuwie as well but I got so fed up of it taking so long to load and all the bugs it had in it as well and a virus or two to go with it. So in the end I gave up with it and I never saw any earnings either and I did post as well and surf so really I have nothing to lose at all. Shame about your Money though it is Cash after all I think I made about ten cents according to my calculations although I never saw it in the earnings section lol. How is your shoulder now hope its much better in fact hope you´ve gotten over it. xxx
