We are experiencing record breaking temperatures here in southern Ontario, Canada so for those who think Canada has snow year round, think again! its hot!!! i once heard about a car full of guys with skies strapped to their roof looking for snow in the middle of July!! But seriously, most people don't know much about Canadians and Canada except that we are nice people... Also, what do you do to keep cool?

My son told me we may break a record today, but it isn't nearly as hot as some places. We have been just over 100 before, but this record it just in the high 90's..So how hot is it where you live? As for how I keep cool; drink lots of water, sit with a fan on top of me, and go take a dip in the pool when I can..

Right now, it's 37C or 98F. With the humidex, it's 49C or 120F. It's brutally hot right now. I stopped work at 1pm due to the heat, it was just too much to work in, not to mention unsafe. I work outside, and I can't take this much heat.

I live in Montreal, and it's been unbearably hot today. I can certainly relate to the temperatures you've been having in Ontario. Although it does seem as though we get winter most of the year, we don't have winters all year round.

Im outside Montreal, about 1hr and its very hot out there. My thermometer outside shows 105F. I havent set foot outside since this heat wave started. I stay indoors in the a/c with my dog. Id hate to be smack dab in the city right now......geez it must be awful!! Thank God for the wind.....well it is windy here anyways.

You really melted the snow? Where did you do that? I've never seen a thawed out Canada. Do you have pictures? Is the permafrost gone too?

Haha, you're thinking of the North Pole.....not where most Canadians live. We never have snow in the summer in Canada, but there is still ice and snow in the NORTH POLE!!

It's in the upper 90's here today. Last week, I think we hit 110! Good thing we have air conditioning! I wish I had a pool though. Or knew someone who did!

Canada has the habit of going extreme when it comes to weather. If its not too hot then it too cold. But I'd hot over cold since you could atleast go outside, minus the heatstroke.

Well, I have heard about everywhere seeming to have extremely Hotter weather than normal except for those of us here in WA state. (Especially those of us around the Seattle area. We are having cooler than normal temperatures.) But the couple of times a yr. it might actually decide to get over 85 here it can be quite miserable as most people do not, and cannot afford to have an air conditioner. So you get out of the house and find cooler places to be. Like go swimming, go to a mall, etc.

It has been in the 100s here for weeks, with the humidity stifling. All I am doing is trying to survive. My poor air conditioner works for all it is worth, and so does my tiny fan I have in my living room. I drink tons of water and try to stay indoors as much as possible.

As a Texan, here are a few suggestions... Take bottles of water and freeze them, put a line of frozen bottles of water behind a fan and the air will be cooled being blown on you... Take a hand towel, or even larger if you want, wet it and then put it around your neck. Keep turning it so the cooler side is against your skin and you can also wet your face with the hanging ends of the towel... keep an iced drink near at hand, I have even wet a shirt and put it on... I cleaned my house one day doing that when I was younger, found a light weight long sleeved cotton shirt, wet it and started cleaning the house (we didn't have ac in that house.) About half way through the cleaning, I had to wet the shirt again, because it was drying off. Last summer, before we got the ac in the kitchen, I wet my shirt to do the cat boxes, when that wet shirt hit my hot body it was like putting on a frozen coat - but I quickly adjusted but wasn't as hot as I would've been. Good luck staying cool in this heat wave!

Hello Cher. Yes, I was reading about the heat wave and record breaking temperatures in Ontario. Very unusual , isn't it. So, how are you doing ? Staying indoors with air-conditioning ? Ontarion gets extreme weather conditions often, extremely cold in the winter time. Take care of yourself !

We are having such a cool Summer, and really enjoying it. Usually it's hot here and we work outside early and do inside work the rest of the day. Lot's of water and light clothing, sunscreen and hats are what we do when we have to go out in the heat.

It is so interesting to hear about the record breaking heat in other parts of North America, when it is actually relatively below seasonal temperatures here in the Pacific Northwest. It was even raining in the mornings for the past couple of days! Me, I don't like heat so much. So, I like these cool summers that we are experiencing. If only it would stop raining.

Im at about 1 hr West of Montreal, Quebec and its friggin hot here!! My thermometer showed 105F in the shade yesterday and its reaching 100F right now. I stay indoors with the a/c on all the time. My dog seems to love it inside now and will go out only to do his thing lol. The water in the pool is way too hot to go for a swim, its like taking a bath. I dont feel the heat inside. Thank God its windy or it would be awful out there. They say a couple more days and then it'll drop into the 80's. I might go out then lol. I think I prefer winter now. Its nice to be able to wear thick sweaters, to sit in front of the fireplace with a hot coffee. No bugs then also. Well in about 5 months we should get some snow!!! Try to stay cool, stay indoors if you have a/c and drink plenty of water. Ice cream does help too lol.

This "heat dome" as they're calling it, doesn't just affect us here in Ontario, it reaches from the prairies to Quebec, and down into the states, too. But it's summer, it's supposed to be hot (not like in Vancouver this year where it's been rather cool), and I don't complain. I just make myself another cup of tea...

Some day I'd love to visit Canada. From what I've heard, I might not want to leave! Yep, I know that you guys are nice people, at least the majority. It's hot here, too. Not quite as bad as last year but definitely exceptionally hot. This heat wave is not supposed to last as long as last year's and we've already had more rain this year than we had all summer last year so that's a bit better, too. Today, it's supposed to get up to 98F or 100F, depending on who you're listening to. The same is predicted for tomorrow. Heat index is supposed to get up to MAYBE 115F. Last year, we had over 30 days of 100F+ temps, reaching a high of 107F with heat index of 112F. It killed so much! I'm doing everything I can right now to keep the veggies I have growing alive through this heat wave. My tomatoes are looking okay but my peppers look pretty sickly. All I can hope for is that they stay alive through the next couple of days because it's supposed to cool off a bit after that. I don't know if this will affect my eggplants or not because they are just starting to blossom right now. I hope this heat doesn't kill the blossoms because I'm looking forward to my four different kinds of eggplants and, of course, my tomatoes and peppers. My onions look just fine. I guess they don't mind the heat. Oops, sorry, got carried away with my garden. What do I do to keep cool? Stay inside in air conditioning! In trying to conserve energy and money, I've turned the AC temp up to 78 but have fans running to help offset that. I've also made sure the windows facing the sun are covered with curtains or shades. That makes a BIG difference in how hot it gets inside the house. If it's still too hot, soaking in a cool bath works wonders! If you don't want to get in the bathtub, just having a cloth with cool water on it around your neck is amazing! It makes your entire body feel cooler. I've also had to do things outside on days like this and wet my hair with cool water before I go out. I really don't care what it looks like, just that it helps me to feel so much cooler! Also, a large-brimmed hat and loose, light-colored cotton clothing can help immensely if you have to be outside. If all else fails, go to the mall! You can always "steal" some of their air conditioning by strolling through a mall or even just going, sitting and doing some people-watching. You don't have to buy a thing.
