Hello Lotters, Just woke up around nine in the morning after sleeping around three again. do some little house chores but very much happy because of the rain. while using the PC, we are also watching some Senate Hearings regarding this PCSO scandal and Morato is being drilled again. Until a Breaking News came up, a Bus flew off the bridge. It's unbelievable because the bridge has some grills and hearing this makes me wonder a lot. First, the possibility of Bus couldn't rode properly because of the wet road but probaby due to the driver's carelessness, maybe he was driving too fast Be careful what you Ride you BUS with... comment you later..

When I was younger, I seem to enjoy bus rides along EDSA especially if drivers try to outrun each other. But now, I can't help but pray everytime I ride one. Those buses are really like F1 on steriods. I wouldn't care so much if seat belts are available but with the just the hand rails to cling on, it surely is worthy to call the names of all saints or do the novena until you reach your destination in one piece minus your own ghost.

Hello Ybong, Hahaha you are so right about that my friend, most bus drivers want to show authority to low vehicles like cars and jeeps who want to go their way. The drivers are like race car drivers threating the road like car race. my mom does pray when ever she is in the commuting ride. Have a nice day.

@diogz, can't really blame the drivers themselves because they only earn a few percent of an entire day's income. So they don't look like they're in a hurry, they are really in a hurry because every passenger counts and the best way to get a passenger is to beat the other drivers in the race. And you're right about your observation about the dilapidated buses that can cause tetanus but sometimes it's better to die due to tetanus than dying because the bus fell off from the skyway . @LK, I think everyone prays when they ride a bus along EDSA, even the not so religious people will start to call every god they know just for them to reach their destination . That's also the main reason why I wouldn't buy motorcycle because you won't have a chance with those ballistic buses on EDSA.

I always encounter this kind of buses especially the ordinary buses whose route is from Alabang to Fairview. It is like they are alway in a hurry. The buses are very old and sometimes I joke around that you might get a tetanus if ever you rode one.

whenever i ride the bus, if there are a lot of vacant seats, i choose the third seat's from the back.... and not beside the window.... i prefer self defense all the time.... i also secure that no such wood or metal wall corners is in my knees or shinbone or i might loose a feet or foot just in case.... and i put my bag on front of me, this serves as a cushion if i bump my chest to the front seat.... safety first.....

Why do you choose the third seat's from the back? is there something about that part of the bus?

Hello mantis, I agree with you and nice of you to be cautious. Same here when it comes to putting you're bag in front of you so that no criminal would sliced it off and take what ever it is inside. I guess I should stick around the third or second seat away from the window. Public Transport bus was never safe to begin with. Have a nice day and thank you. Have a nice day.

@diogz22, although accidents and incidents happens all the time without choosing what right hour it begins... but i found out that on the third seat at the back... 1. I need people or crowd to witness whatever happens if there's a snatcher or something fishy at least those bad guys can't manipulate that easy if there are people at my back... 2. And if a vehicle accidentally bumped at our own bus, injuries to us can't penetrate so much because the passengers sitting at the back and at the 2nd seats at the back serves as our human protections.... and a collision happens at our back is a rare compare to the front portion of the bus... 3. Another reason why i choose that seat is because that is the strongest portion of the bus, and if ever our bus colliding to somewhere else.... those fragmentation glass window on front of the driver won't lacerated my face and my eyes.... i really value my eyes because i don't want to live if i am blind.... i can't accept that.... and here is another thing, i secure myself to if ever happens, i have to grab immediately the grab rail(long metal pole) on my side just to hold very tight if a minute before collision happens... as i notice, colurum buses, those backseats are sharp, wood and i think not safe and hard surface compare to modern buses... a Wing Chun Fook Sau (controlling hands) both that i will use (from bridge to elbow) to stick to the flat soft portion of my front backseat plus i have a bag(knapsack) serve as a second protection to my chest... therefore, i have an advantage if a very strong impact of collision happens.... and i will use my bag(knapsack) to throw to the face of the holdupper while simultaneously attack him with the LAP SING KAT kick to groin while BIU JEE to the secret target that's the reason why everytime i go out of my house, i always carry my knapsack or if not, i am carrying my umbrella (with the hook on it's end) for self-defense...

I don't think that the grills are high enough . that's what I have noticed with the road bridges although that's not unusual but I think for safety we should have higher grills so that for events or situations like this it will somehow prevents any automobiles on going off the bridge . Specially that many drivers don't often observed that speed limits .
@hotsummer (13837)

maybe they should also consider setting up a strong safety net to save those automobiles or bus that would accidentally fell off the skyway. although it is impossible to set up such a net. i wish there is such a thing.
• Philippines
26 Jul 11
Hello hotsummer, Definitely not high enough but why would they consider setting it up high anyways. But now I think they have a reason to put a higher setting on those grills because of what happened. most drivers doesn't care about traffic rules until they got an accident, and if they're not injured, they'll make a run for it. Have a nice day and be careful.

Yeah the grills are not that high enough. Even if you observed the speed limit near the exit of Sucat in the skyway you are most likely to accelerate downward when traveling southbound because of the flaw in the design. It is very steep.

dear LK, Wow,the earthquake strikes around 1am,so it has nothing to do with this bus flying from skyway (duh) Reckless driver most probably the reason why this happened. Let me check the net regarding this incident. Wish there were no casualties which i doubt

Hello Sis Jaiho, How come I didn't feel that Earth-Quake here? :D and It seems that the sudden rain fall caughted the public utility drivers by a surprise there. I mean, they would definitely drive fast in a very fast and very intense speed if the road was not wet. it's indeed reckless, am sure the driver will be accountable for their mistakes in this. Have a nice day.

Hello Mspitot, there's a lot more incident that involves busses aside from this one. and most of them are done because of human error for some reason. just like what mantis said, but as for the bus hold-up i think that has happened already, as for bus snatching, it is highly slow and doesn't run that fast. have a nice day.,

that's why in Manila I try to stay away from buses as much as possible. Bus drivers can be really careless because they feel like they are superior since they drive bigger vehicles. I feel sorry for those who were in the accident

it is crazy to imagine how things happened, but they happened. a bus flying off the skyway is unimaginable. the bus drivers must think the safety of their passengers. yeah, the road might be slippery and that should cause them to be more careful in driving. they are holding the lives of their passengers. authorities should check the capability of the drivers to handle such job.
• Philippines
26 Jul 11
Hello mensab, I know it's usual for drivers who drive fast, but i guess these people are completely not trained how to drive properly in a dangerous scenarios most specially during the raining seasons. Some of these kind of people are actually scared going to the bus, some drivers have limited training but lack safety kind of training. Have a nice day.

How sad...We’ve had a bus accident here on the weekend too. It involved a bus full of tourists, some were quite hurt and to top things off the authorities discovered that someone had ransacked these poor people’s belongings by stealing passports, cameras, phones etc. Do you believe one can’t even suffer an accident without being robbed!

Hello Paula, That's a lot worse, I think if the driver is responsible for it's own passengers in their own country then they should be a lot more responsible with the tourist who travel in their country. being a driver in a public ulitily vehicle has more responsibility in terms of care to their passengers. Have a nice day

Oh wow this is terrible to have happened. Wow I do hope it was not the carelessness of the driver because where is safety in all of this. Did anyone get killed? Sad to hear such news where many entrust their lives on drivers and to think that they may be at fault is an absolute shame. Maybe it could be going too fast and bad roads too.

Hello hardworkinggurl, I believe it was both the rain, due to wetness of the road and the recklessness of the driver that drove them off the grills and off the bridge. It's really sad that you can't trust the drivers in my country but not all of them are like that. some others were saying that the skyway design is completely flawed for some reason which has also contributed to this accident. Have a nice day.

That's letranknight25 always ahead of the news... hahaha... The part of skyway near sucat is pretty dangerous because of the steep decline if you are southbound. Drivers should take a lot of care and shift to low gear. The bus is probably driving too fast or it's break malfunction. That's probably what happened there.
• Philippines
26 Jul 11
Hello Diogz22, I couldn't help but spread the news. Also, this is serve as a warning to drivers here in mylot who would attempt to drive fast in a wet road while it's raining. It doesn't matter if the breaks malfunction, they're driving too damn fast anways.even if the driver were able to put breaks, there's probably slide off far over the grills. Have a nice day. another classic of drivers stupidity.

Hahaha I used to drive that fast in a wet road. That is why last July 19,2009 I had an accident where the car I was driving went out of the road and down to a ravine almost 10-15 meters deep luckily a tree stopped our fall and all the passengers included myself was able to walk away from the wreck unscathed. That was a pretty horrifying experience that's why I was able to remember the particular date that happened. From that day, I was not able to drive a car for more than a year and whenever I am in a car I am scared if the driver goes over 60kph.

Yeah, buses can be really dangerous in our country. I once got into a bus wherein they have a wager against another one on who can reach their terminal first. They are really scary while driving and honking in the highway. Also, whenever I drive the highway, I can't help blowing myself off on those pesky buses who thinks that they are the king of the roads. Well, they are bigger that's why they just cut into your lane whenever they can. I still ride buses sometimes. I don't know if I like them or not since they are really fast when I need to get to my work fast but at the same time equally dangerous. I feel like I'm in a rollercoaster ride especially at nights and early mornings. I don't know what happened to that bus that you are mentioning, but I think it should be the protocol of that bus driver to slow down especially with the hard rain.

Hello AgentGulaman, Indeed it's really dangerous to every parts of the country because they lack guidance and training on the safety feature from taking a ride and giving safe passage of the passengers. I pity to those who got hit.

This news is really alarming and scaring! Our local government SHOULD really have an exam for our public transport drivers. They "carry" many lives each day and yet they don't have proper training for driving.
• Philippines
27 Jul 11
Hello bluespygirl, Yes, there has been some training and some examination regarding that kind for the public utility drivers because there's a lot of incident regardin the bus accident. the last one I've heard was bus falling into the depts because they were too fast and some are actually felt sleepy. have anice day and be careful.

I'm currently watching about this news on TV Patrol. It's scary, obviously. If I were riding in that bus, oh no... I hope nothing like that would happen again. Let's all be careful. :(

Hello pinkpiglet, That would have been horrifying in this matter, unless you got used to into riding a roller coaster. but unfortunately, things are really something that terrible i think every person who rode that bus would eventually loose their confidence in riding the bus again. so sad we have to be careful on what bus we are going to choose on. have a nice day.

its a sad news. i hope the govenement do something about those dangerous roads... but what can you expect, its now out of season for them to look at those roads anymore. We'll have to wait till the next election.
• Philippines
26 Jul 11
Hello Pbbsra, I believe the Metro Manila Development Authority will do something with regards to that problem. besides, this is something we don't see in real life all except during those events in the movies.as for the next election I believe that can be done this year am sure it will only take weeks or months. Have a nice day.

You know what the part of skyway near sucat is very steep and very high. I think they must have overlooked that in their design. Take note Skyway was just recently finished last May or april i think.

Was anyone badly injured? I did not hear about this one. It is true even here in the US sometimes especially areas on bridges that are getting worn looking that if a Driver is not watching what they are doing, or driving a little too fast that things like this have happened. It is sad and sometimes just a warning sign about something that could have been a better driver for, or caution of something that might have needed some work as well.

This news made me afraid to ride a bus that is routing Skyway. I do not trust drivers of bus as what is important to them is their earnings and not the safety of their passenger. I do not want to generalize this but I think that is the reason why this bus flew off the skyway. I hope they consider concern about their passenger first and even their life so that no one will meet an accident.
