how often do you give your dog a bath?

I don't know whether it is bad to give a bath to my dog too often?

I have read in my book to give a dog a bath bat least once a week. Some would say twice a week is better so to keep their fur shiny and healthy. And some will say that you have to bathe them whenever they are dirty.

i take a bath for my dog once a week, in the afternoon sunny day.. if water is cold i use warm water for him.. my dog likes warm water better then i do for him..and dry with towel.. in winter time if he not have strong smell i not shower for him every week..

My friend has a dog and she's bathing her dog almost everyday or every other day. I guess that should be done because it really smells bad if not.
