If you have a limited budget and you will make your grocery lists, what do you think are the ones you must not forget? When I am in the grocery store, if I don't think earlier of the priority items to buy I have the tendency to be an impulsive buyer and buy all the nice things that my eyes can see in the store.I think if I only have to buy 5 items, it would include toothpaste, shampoo, dish washing paste, cereal drink and milk powder..

When in grocery, I do not forget to buy laundry soap, shampoo, bath soap, sugar, juice, cooking oil and condiments. I do bring a list so that I will not forget and so that I will buy what I really want. Sometimes, when I do not have a list, I buy unnecessary things that are on sale. I'll be out of budget then.

Since you said you already have limited budget, no matter how hard you wish to buy things you like, it will never happen because your money would not be stretched by that much. Now about the tendency to buy impulsively, then you are grabbing things that you want but not necessarily need so grocery list is important for you to have. List the things that are important and is very much needed and check your money if it fits. The three things you have listed above are not actually to be bought on a weekly basis since they can be consumed for a month or so (shampoo, toothpaste, dish washing paste). Unlike the other two items (cereal drink and milk powder) this may be consumed within a week. How often do you go to the grocery dear? Is it weekly or monthly? Budgeting your money for grocery includes also the shelf life of your items. So see to it if the items needed ran out of stock and when will you need to reload again.

groceries shop - shop with limited budget
Hi Girl! If I have limited budget then I will choose to buy food. IF I only can buy 5 items...it will be food as well.(^^) Me and my family never shop for small things as we don't like to shop many times in a month. We only go for shop in once a month so we already have the budget and the list of items to buy. For us, buy things in small scale for certain amount days or weeks is such a waste. It is better to buy straight for a month. (^^)

Before i go to the grocery store, i list down all the items I need to buy. This way I wouldn't forget anything. I always go to the same supermarket so I already know where to find the items. It makes me save time as i go past the other shelves that doesn't have what I need. And I always buy two of those that will not easily rot, like toiletries and such. For foods, I buy 1 week of supply or I go to a dirty market near my apartment. :)

I agree with the four of the things that you have mentioned. But you can omit cereal drink. I don't think it is necessary. I mean for me, that is not included in my lifestyle. Coffee is for me. But don't forget rice.

When I began to be independent, I learned how to budget my money and buy only what are essential. Even though I was earning much, everything goes with grocery expenses, apartment rent, and utility bills. For grocery items, I buy only what are worthy and can last longer. For example, I prefer buying the bigger ones than smaller packs, that way you can save. Bigger bottle of shampoo, bigger packs of milk, etc. I believe you can save more with bigger packs than smaller ones. And, they can last longer in months. When you buy smaller packs, it can last only in a week and tendency is you will buy again after. When it comes to food items, make sure to buy and check the expiration dates. Don't buy foods that easily expires. When you are in a budget, make sure to know some substitutes. For example, meat is a source of protein. Instead of buying meat, you can substitute with tufu or fish. You can save more and they are more healthy.

I usually have a list when going to the grocery store. I think it saves a lot of time when shopping not to mention that it saves a lot of money because I could already budget what I need and how much I will be able to spend. On the other hand, there are times when I would just go on a 'per lane' grocery shopping where I get what I need with calculator on hand to compute for the 'budget'. Yeah, I am not shy to add the costs so that I would not run short on the counter and have to return some stuff. As for the question of what to buy, I think it depends on what is necessary for that given day. I wouldn't say shampoo or toothpaste because I don't buy them often. I buy those around once every 2 months or so (since I'm only buying those for myself). However, I think the usual thing that I do buy (usually twice a month) would be tissue paper, snacks, hotdogs, milk, and sugar. Have a great MyLot experience!
