My lotters, are you for or against a man can have more than one wife or a woman can have more than one husband in their marriages, in your personal opinion, what is the main reason you think that a man or a woman want to involve in a polygamous marriage relationship other than lust. I am interested to hear from you on this regardless of your religion belief. Thank you.

I don't like the idea. I think the negative consequences of many people sharing one spouse is to great. There is always going to be the favorite. I don't care what people say about "mature adults" being able to handle it. The one person is going to find a favorite among the harem and then you can guess what will ensue. I also fear that it would end primarily as a man with several wives thing - since that is the main pattern in history. If the phenomenon became widespread enough, it might even have a negative impact on a Western woman's liberty. I admit that is a bit of stretch, but always a possibility if polygamy even became widespread. Another factor is that my state is near Utah - Mormon capitol of the country. Now they don't do plural marriage anymore, but there is the occasional scandal. I have had the opportunity to talk to some of the women who went through this and they did not come out good. Then there is also the fact that it might have a negative impact on society. Women and men will go for the rich and powerful woman or man. This is going to leave a shortage of one of the genders - a fact that could end in violence if it continued long enough. There is also the economic uncertainty. Trying to support that many people? If one or two of the spouse's looses their job, the polygamous family may have a hard time.

Hi, Awind! You really believe that a man go for plural relationship is because he want to create negative impact on our society, that make some senses to me. I am not against it if the society in which the man live is having a ratio of ten women against one man, then i can understand the need for a polygamous marriage in order to increase the population of a nation. Thank for your comment.

If I would imagine myself being married ( this is enough hard) to more than one man ( that is even harder) I think I would be miserable person. Really. I would have to cook for them, clean after them and listening their complains? And what about bed things? I would have to create rota or something. Being monogamist is enough complicated. Maybe because I was born in "strict " Europe I can not imagine myself in such marriage. And I have no idea how polygamistic families can function properly.

In that case, you may not even have time left for yourself, Koperty3, except spend all your waking hours cleaning, cooking, doing chores, performing your duty of wife and mother for your many husbands...that must be really tough on you. lol! it is better to live a simple life than make it more complicated by marry to many men. Thank for your two cents.

Nope, i support monogamy, not polygamy. A heart is only to bond with another heart, not many more. Have a nice time.

I can agree with that, nothing to argue against that. A man doesn't need many wives and father to many children of different women to lead a righteous life.

I am against polygamy. The essence of marriage life will not be harmonious in that case. There will be a more chaotic world if that will be allowed by the rest of the society. I guess those involve in polygamy is not satisfied on their life.

HI, xuyxuy! It may well be that the man is not satisfy with his present wife, so he decided to seek out for a new wife to get satisfaction in his life for whatever personal reasons. Sometimes, it is even encourage in his religion that make him invole in polygamous marriage out of no choice. That is the reason i think why some men choose to be a polygamist other than lust. Thank for your comment.

I'm against this. I don't like polygamous men/persons. In our country, there is this religion that allows men to have several wives as long as they can afford to have more than one families.

yes, I agree with you, jdex. It is sometime incomprehensible for me, there are still many countries today that recognize legally the polygamous relationship of one man with multiple women as 'marriage' in their law, it is the greatest perversity ever carried out by some leaders to disdain the sanctity of 'marriage' as a man and a woman. There is no short of wickedness practice by men among us.
