credit card - visa credit card

my mum called me once, screaming down the phone at me, accusing me of using her credit card! and she was going completely and utterly mental down the phone to e saying i had paid for £30 worth of petrol on her credit card, how did i get her credit card, how did i manage to use it, AND put it back.. and all this stuff. firstly i don't drive. now my girlfriend at the time drive. she lived in a town called coleraine, and i live in belfast. however.. the credit card had been used in a town called bangor. now.. bangor is near belfast but nowehere near coleraine.. and you don't have to drive through, or near bangor, to get to coleraine, they are completely opposite directions. so why would my girlfriend and i have been anywhere near bangor to use her credit card? it turned out in the end, after 2 weeks of mum and i not speaking, that her credit card company rang her to ask about the suspicious acitivty on her account. apparently mum had put her card into an ATM machine to lift out money, and her card had been cloned, and someone was running around with a clone of mums card using it. she apologised to me, and bought me some wine and chocolates to make up for accusing me, but thats how easily its done! has anyone else ever hard their credit card stolen?

That's so unfortunate. I've never had that happen to me, but I'm worried that it could. I don't like to use ATMs. I'd rather go inside the bank to withdraw money from my account. That's also why I like to have extra money at home, that way in case in emergency comes up and the banks are closed, I wouldn't have to resort to using an ATM.
