Street sweepers have been employed in cities since sanitation and waste removal became a priority. A street-sweeping person would use a broom and shovel to clean off litter, animal waste and filth that accumulated on streets. Later water hoses were used to wash the streets. I always met a street sweeper almost everyday. For two weeks I met a lady who would sweep the street in from of me while I was going out or coming home.No matter which time I go down to that street , she was just there and sweeping. it really make laugh and said that in my heart " no, not again!"Ha ha. What about your experience?

I really admire their line of work. They work hard in order to make the city clean. As far as I know they don't even get paid that high for the tremendous amount of work they put in.

Yep, I think people should realize that these sweepers are also having a hard time cleaning the roads. People should put their garbage on the right places in order for them to lessen the hard work these heroes are putting up.

working with computer is good - working with computer is good.
yes, they work really hard for the city and yet people in the city tend to look down on them all the times. In some countries, they have to to get up at 5 am in the morning in order to make the street clean. Anyway, I hope that they will get pay which will match their hard labor. It is certainly a dirty job that not everyone will has the guts to do it.But if people have a choice, they may not want to do a job like this. Well, as long as it is a job and they really have contribution to the society, who can look down on them since they earn money with their physical strength and they are much better than those who just want to live on welfare and don't want to go to work at all.Anyway, it is not easy to live in such a work if you don't have good education and good connection with the power controlling group.I think that there are many people in this work that they are full of potential but lack of opportunity to do the work they want to do. I hope things can be change someday in the future.Happy mylot.

I have a great story that I want to share it with you. Take a look to see if you like it or not. Positive Inspirational Achievement Stories Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well I had been working much too long on this job. I guess things could have been worse. I certainly wasn't doing hard labour. But going door to door asking questions as a representative of the federal government wasn't the most satisfying position either. It was August. It was hot. I had to wear a tie. 'Hello. My name is Bob Perks and we are doing a survey in this neighbourhood.' 'I'm not interested! Good bye!' You can't imagine how many times I heard that. I finally caught on and began with 'Before you slam the door, I am not selling anything and I just need to ask a few questions about yourself and the community.' The young woman inside the doorway, paused for a moment, raised her eyebrows as she shrugged her shoulders confused by my rude introduction. 'Sure. Come on in. Don't mind the mess. It's tough keeping up with my kids.' It was an older home in a section of the valley where people with meagre income found affordable shelter. With the little they had, the home looked comfortable and welcoming. 'I just need to ask a few questions about yourself and family. Although this may sound personal I won't need to use your names. This information will be used' She interrupted me. 'Would you like a glass of cold water? You look like you've had a rough day.' 'Why yes!' I said eagerly. Just as she returned with the water, a man came walking in the front door. It was her husband. 'Joe, this man is here to do a survey.' I stood and politely introduced myself. Joe was tall and lean. His face was rough and aged looking although I figured he was in his early twenties. His hands were like leather. The kind of hands you get from working hard, not pushing pencils. She leaned toward him and kissed him gently on the cheek. As they looked at each other you could see the love that held them together. She smiled and titled her head, laying it on his shoulder. He touched her face with his hands and softly said 'I love you!' They may not have had material wealth, but these two were richer than most people I know. They had a powerful love. The kind of love that keeps your head up when things are looking down. 'Joe works for the borough.' she said. 'What do you do?' I asked. She jumped right in not letting him answer. 'Joe collects garbage. You know I'm so proud of him.' 'Honey, I'm sure the man doesn't want to hear this.' said Joe. 'No, really I do.' I said. 'You see Bob, Joe is the best garbage man in the borough. He can stack more garbage on the truck than anyone else. He gets so much in one truck that they don't have to make as many runs', she said with such passion. 'In the long run,' Joe continues, 'I save the borough money. Man hours are down and the cost per truck is less.' There was silence. I didn't know what to say. I shook my head searching for the right words. 'That's incredible! Most people would gripe about a job like that. It certainly is a difficult one. But your attitude about it is amazing.' I said. She walked over to the shelf next to the couch. As she turned she held in her hand a small-framed paper. 'When we had our third child Joe lost his job. We were on unemployment for a time and then eventually welfare. He couldn't find work anywhere. Then one day he was sent on an interview here in this community. They offered him the job he now holds. He came home depressed and ashamed. Telling me this was the best he could do. It actually paid less than we got on welfare.' She paused for a moment and walked toward Joe. 'I have always been proud of him and always will be. You see I don't think the job makes the man. I believe the man makes the job!' 'We needed to live in the borough in order to work here. So we rented this home.' Joe said. 'When we moved in, this quote was hanging on the wall just inside the front door. It has made all the difference to us, Bob. I knew that Joe was doing the right thing.' she said as she handed me the frame. It said: If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep the streets even as Michelangelo painted or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, 'Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.' Martin Luther King 'I love him for who he is. But what he does, he does the best. I love my garbage man!' So how was your day? Did you give it your best? Written by Bob Perks

There's not anything really like that here in the US. There are trucks that come with salt during the winter months to make the streets safer, and I suppose there may be a street sweeper but they would be using a truck and not themselves to get the job done. I don't think it'd be a very fun job, though I imagine it'd be high paying provided the risk and just the boringness of the job itself.

In our neighborhood there is a street sweeping truck that will come through a couple times every month and that is always interesting because the road will look really funny after they've cleaned it. As far as actual people that clean the roads, that is not something that we experience on a regular basis. When there are parades there will be pooper scoopers that will follow all of the horses on the parade route and there are also people that will clean the streets after the festivities, but I've never personally known anyone that does that.

Hi wild! Some place will not have this job anymore but here every morning except weekends I can see a few ladies sweep the street. I really admire them because they did a really good service to everyone. Every time I see them I will say to myself, if they can do it to carry on the life and at the same time contribute a lot to the community then I should be better than them. Most of the time we can learn more when we see things like this although some of us never thought was such a thing.(^^)

no matter what job are you work for, never feel upset or frustrate because there has you, make world beautiful.i have read a story about a group of cleaners who worked for the country, due to the salary is little, they asked their boss to add wages. But the boss refused their request.Without got pay increasing, they were very sad and they decided to change for another job.So there has no cleaners after striked.everything went ok until one week later, the street was crowded with rubbish, and the smell of the rubbish is so strong that residents here can't stand it.so they told that situation to the administrater, then the admin ask to rise their wages then the cleaners are working like the originate days. it shows that everybody both try their sweat to embellish this worlds.no matter how small it is ,even we would ignore it in the daily life.we can't find the importance when it is works well.but if one day it stops working,we will find the i significance of it.
