India the Deserving Losers...!!!!!!!

Dear All, When a team gets its opposition to a position of 120 runs for the loss of eight wickets and still manages to lose the game on the fourth day, then that team surely deserves to lose....!!!! In this case, the team is India. One can say that the swash buckling Virender Sehwag and his partner Gautam Gambhir were not playing and that the bowling attack was depleted without Zaheer Khan. I would like to say that if this India depends heavily on a few players rather than the whole team then, the team does not deserve the No. 1 spot. It is okay for a team to lose. If you look at it, Cricket is merely a game. But then, people will accept defeat when two teams play competitive sport and one team emerges the winner.. Here, it was not so. Was it??? So what was it that made the difference between the two teams??.... "Fitness, Fitness, Fitness". The English players seemed very fit, while the Indian players some how looked lethargic. The English lower middle order fired and the Indian lower middle order was blown away. In the Indian first innings, from position of about 200 for 4, to 288 all out; it takes some doing to get there. All the hard work done by the poor Dravid went in vain....It was a masterclass innings, I must say...!!! The Indian bowling attack was put under tremendous pressure because of this, in the English second innings. Team India with only four bowlers. And sure enough Harbhajan gets injured (I do not think that the way he was bowling, it would have made any difference though) and did not bowl and the Indian bowling line up was taken apart. My heart goes to the Indian bowlers, they did all that they could do. But what can I say, even England's No. 10 Batsman (Who should be actually a bowler) scored a swashbuckling 90.....!!!! YEEEYYY...!!!... What I am trying to say is, if a team is going to go only with four bowlers, then the team should make sure that every one is fit.....!!!!!! More than that, I believe in getting the correct bench strength. To shift Dravid's batting position to an opener's position is not the correct thing to do. Of course Dravid being Dravid will do it for the team, but then his performance levels will go down.....I heard someone comment in TV, to not to play with the batting order of the mainstay and I must say it is correct. They should have played the third opener... But what can I say, a third opener was not in the squad as a back up.. (:D). I know that the article is long ... But one final word on Dhoni and Raina...!!!! I have been saying this for a long time. His blunderous decisions have gone unnoticed, because the team was winning. But now, it is not so. There were many occasions in the test match, where when a new batsman arrived on the crease, enough pressure was not put on him. From 120 for 8 to 221, too many runs were given and it happened because Dhoni went on the defensive...!!!!!! And now his batting...!!! Dhoni and Raina hold extremely key positions in the bating line up...!!!! I know that Dhoni is going through a bad phase. But then there are times when one has to grind it out. this was one such time. Yet both the times Dhoni gave it away. He played a rash shot in the first innings and started a collapse and in the second innings did not even play a shot....!!!!! Now the great Raina...!!!!! Her showed he was scared of bouncers in the first innings. and in the second innings he confirmed it...!!!! I mean at that situation, that shot, when there were fielders there in the deep....THIS IS A TEST MATCH...!!!!!. As some one said it is a test of character and it showed Raina has no character...!!! :P All I can hope for is that India get back some how and salvage some pride now..... Share your views...!!! Balu

hmmmm a very frustrated and enotional india fan ( or is it ex- indian fan ). one must say that after a splendid performance in the world cup final and also winning the most prestigious (?) IPL title,i never expected dhoni to come under such heavy critisism. it started with giving raina the ball right after lunch when ishant sharma was making the english tremble in that spell in first test. then letting a team which has a lead of 184 which miraculously crumbled to 106/8 and getting them away to 269/8 created even more drama. anyone watching the first 2 sessions of the second test when england were 120/8,would have believed the there is no way india is going to lose the match. then the ian bell incident added petrol the flames. now some bad captaincy ,not backed by an even poor batting,i believe dhoni would be happy not to the play the next match. P.S. can somebody cut all those BS and look at the facts. so what india bowled with only 3 bowlers. look at england.swann hardly contributed.a match figure of 97 from 15 overs is what you call contribution. the english can get the indians bowled out twice with 3 bowlers, why can't the indians do the same with 3 bowlers? is the problem with the bowlers or somewhere else?

Dear Stardust, Yes, I am frustrated...!!! I consider myself a reasonable person and I understand that a team cannot win always. But the issue is not winning always. The issue is that, the team was under prepared for this series.!!! I am not talking about match practice. I am talking in terms of fitness...!!!! I am talking about captaincy and I am talking about the right bench strength....!!!! I have said this before. Dhoni's captaincy has never been under scrutiny because, his team was winning. But now, I do not think that his on field blunders can be covered up. The excuses about too much cricket is BS...!!!! Dhoni just came back from a rest. So did Sachin and Yuvraj. If you look at it, almost every one performed, except Dhoni and Raina. It was not a matter of performing, it was more a matter of at least putting in the effort. And shouldering arms to an incoming delivery is not putting in effort. The Indian bowlers, even though one bowler short, did almost whatever they could under the situation. Yet the number nine and number ten batsmen score fifties at a brisk rate. I will put the blame on the captain for not attacking enough. When England were 120 for 8, Dhoni did not attack and gave away easy singles. Whatever said and done Stuart Broad and Tim Bresnan are No:9 and no: 10 batsmen respectively...!!!! Dhoni waited tor things to happen and I believe the English just made him wait...!!! :P I just want to see more effort. Win or lose, that is another matter...!!!! Share your views...!!! Balu

Hello, You have portrayed the condition of Indian team nicely and i agree that they played like losers. However i am still optimistic that this condition of team is just temporary and will not last long.If it was time of 90s i would be advising you and my other fellow Indian fans not to keep any hope as India is playing outside India. But now things have changed and i see this loss as strategic failure rather than shortcomings in players.Like great Ganguly mentioned Indians were under prepared in this series and its very correct, if India should studied English team better they would have known that English lower order is hard to dislodge in seaming conditions as we saw in ashes also in series against SA.Main problem with India since WI tour is they are playing the way English and SA team plays, that is play slowly till 50 overs and then try to increase the run rate(due to this strategy they never became world champions),while the no 1 team we know always played with the strategy that people like Dravid, Gauti ,Laxman used to hold one end and other players attacked the opposition. This is old and effective Aussie style and this strategy and attacking mind set helped India to reach no 1 spot.India used to make 270-300 runs in first 80 overs and this gave them the advantage that even if 4-5 wickets are down and new ball was taken, small cameos from lower order players helped India to reach 350 to 400 runs , which in turn is safe score.Since WI tour there is a bizarre change in attitude, now India makes only 210-220 runs in first 80 overs and make things difficult for them, this is the reason they are not crossing 300 at all.Second thing is Yuvi,Dhoni Raina and Mukund are trying to copy Dravid ,Laxman and Tendulkar, that is they are trying to play out whole over and bowlers are setting them up.When you dont have the technique to survive at-least you can show some smartness by taking a single and get to other end, there is no intent of taking a single instead they start playing shots like Raina did in last test.If you take the example of Yuvraj he was only interested in blocking the short balls, you many be talented but how many balls will you defend , you will make the mistake at some point.I am amazed that Dhoni being one of the smartest players in the world is playing shots from first ball instead of taking singles and building innings in which he does so beautifully in ODIs.This strengthens my belief that Dhoni is excellent captain and good ODI player but when it comes to test cricket he has a long way to go.He has always been on the receiving end as a captain when India tours, like it happened in SA and SL,this time he could not get away.People talk about impact of Sehwag and Zaheer ,what difference these players make? well its the attacking mindset.Zak is always in search of wickets and even if Sehwag makes a quick 40-50 runs at the start,it makes things easier for other batsman and eventually India reaches around that safe score of 270-300 before second new ball is taken. If India want to compete in this series, they have to get back to their old strategy , that is to hold at one end and attack at another. You play 100 overs and still get out at 289, that is unacceptable. With big grounds and fast outfield and immense batting talent it not difficult to make runs at a rate to 3.5 to 4,its just that India has to get out from this defensive mind set and we will see results.

India somehow did not get their act together and ended up on the loseing side in the second test match between England. Despite winning the toss and having England on the mat at 120 for 8 India did not captalise and let the match drift away from them a little. Then again it happened while India was batting. The lower order just collapsed and then the bowlers struggled to get England out cheaply in their second innings. Moreover the Indians got frustrated once they did not get wickets and their body language changes and they knew it was difficult to make a comeback from then on. Lets hope that Team India can put up a better show in the remainder of the series and can also go on for victory..

Hi buddy, Only three batsmen made double figure scores on fourth day, with Tendulkar the lone member of their powerful top order to achieve the feat. I think shot selection was not correct and Dhoni was not so aggressive rather than he is defensive from 2nd day. I hope also same way that Team India will get back and level the series.
