Hello Lotters, I've been meaning to ask this question for a long time. Here's the situation, My renter's modem is installed in our house because it's a residential connection because it is not good when it's put in their business stall because the internet provider might remove it. it's a wireless antenna WIFI connection. Mine is a Wired prolink connection. but despite of two different connections, they are both from the same Service provider, which is GLOBE. I used my renters internet every late in the morning so that my modem can rest Now, here's my plan. am planning to buy an Ethernet PCI so that I can have another connection besides the wired one that I am subscribed to. Not a referral LInk. http://www.cdrking.com/apanel/modules/products/images/large/3713_1.jpg or http://www.cdrking.com/apanel/modules/products/images/thumb/8969_2.jpg I need to know if my internet speed will increase if I am using two different connections coming from the same internet/phone service provider.. So, do you think it Will work or it's going to be a bust

If they're two SEPARATE connections, it'll work. Otherwise you'll just be splitting your bandwidth between two cards. I doubt it'll make much difference to the individual speed, especially if you're both on the same plan, though if both are operating on separate connections, they can both run at the max, so you'd get double speed. Provided you were downloading two different things, of course - one on each connection. Forcing your computer to pick between them will not be easy: most OSs just prioritise one, they don't split the load. Worth a shot, though.

Hello Spike, Thanks for the encouragement. they are completely different connection but came from one service provider, i've been thinking of it for weeks now NON STOP. that's another problem, what if the PC screws up if it can't pick either of the connections? i am planning to buy another ethernet PCI so suffice. No, my friend I only want to double the internet speed of it. if it works i won't download anything from that time frame.thanks

It won't double the download speed on a single file - not without some damnably clever software on the computer, anyway. Most OSs aren't built for multiple connection convergence and pretty much all apps will just pick a connection and use it, not try to use two. A switch or hub won't help, either - they're just different ways to connect a single connection and multiple machines or a gateway server and multiple subordinate machines, etc.

Hello mantis, I really need to know why it's not possible. Can you please explain to me so that i will change my mind once i got my pay out on this site. i don't want to waste precious earnings for something that doesn't work

it is not possible because it is like having a single job but working in 2 bosses... between those 2 bosses commands conflict each other, not to follow the other boss is another offense to the same job applied... but if you follow that boss is an offense too to the other boss.... or it's like riding a bus with two steering wheels, therefore, 2 drivers in a single bus... the left driver unloads the passenger to the right waiting area while the right driver want's to overtake the speeding car.... Consult a technician, a valid technician, when they touch your keyboard or mouse, they already know an idea why your system won't work.... remember, a valid technician.... since many pretends they know but failed...

Perhaps you should try testing the speed. First, use one connection then test the speed, then use both then test the speed again. If you see that there's a change (hopefully a higher speed) then perhaps it's working. Otherwise, you're just connected to two sources and they're just sharing the same speed with you. I usually go for http://www.speedtest.net (not a referral link) However, I did try my wifi plus broadband stick because I didn't know that the wifi could reach the area in our house. The speed was the same, I think the laptop just chose which one is the fastest and just concentrated on using that one instead of using both. Have a great MyLot experience ahead!

Hello laydee, I guess if yours doesn't work what more if it is my computer. it's sad though that things are not gonna go well with my computer if two internet connections are obviously put in my Central processing unit. another case is that it could corrupt my hard disk if it's having a hard time which internet speed it should follow. thanks.

i am actually tempted to try this. while in the office, i use my smartbro stick even when there is wi-fi available. at this moment i have not tried using the same connection at the same time. i just wonder what will happen to my computer while having two internet connections at the same time.

It is possible for a computer to be connected to multiple LANs but I still have to find out if the internet bandwidth from both modems can be carried over when the computer tries to access the internet. I think it will use only modem when it reach the internet because the modem will give your PC an IP address. Just imagine if both modems will provide two different IP addresses. Can anyone educate me on this if I am mistaken.

Hello Danzy, i guess that's another problem that I will have to find out once i bought the ethernet outlet. I need to know if my PC can actually provide or accept two different IP addresses coming from two different modems and connections. am sorry but I couldn't educate you on this because I have trouble speculating this myself.
