China

Now China's economy is booming. And our country has been chasing for GDP at the sacrifice of the envioronment and resouces. Yet we seldom pay enough attention to it. Everyday we hear figures after figures, like China is the world's second largest economy, or China has the fastest train in the world. Well, I don't know if you guys have read the recent news of the high speed train accident that lead to the death toll as large as 40. I think China is going too fast. Do you think so? Do you think China should slow down a little bit?

China doesn't go too fast, it is trying to catch up with the rest of the industrialized nations. The rapid industrilization of China doesn't contribute to the deadly accident of the high speed train recently, but rather is the result of a obscure and corrupt communist bureaucracy that feed on clandestine high dollar deal conducted under the table and the lack of oversight committee that can held the wrong doer accountable for shady engineering works in various government projects.

I'm almost convinced by your powerful arguement. Yes, we have a corrupt communist bureacracy. But the government is planning all this project. And the time is too short. That may be one of the causes.

China need to open up all its development projects in a transparent manner from the procurement and bidding process up to the end of the completion of those high dollar projects without much delay, there must be a check and balance system in place to enable a strong oversight committee to ensure proper handling of all safety protocol in par with international standard from the beginning to the end of a project. Failure to do that immediately will only encourage more shady deal conducted between contractors and bureancrats, leading to more tragic event from happening in the future.

yes actually i do! but for a reason very different to this. i bought a few things from a chinese supplier, things like usb's, external hard-drives, and SD cards, none of which worked very well, but yet were all brand new still in the packaging! i later found out, after giving it to my dad who works with computers to look at, they the chips inside hadn;t even be soldered or placed in properly, and some of them had old chips that weren't working.. they were all being mass produced so quickly, that there was no quality control.. what i was pretty much being supplied, was good plastic and rubber casings, with parts that rattled about inside! i think china is moving too fast in its production of elements to make a profit!!

Yeah, there are really some bad products made in China. But we cann't deny that there are some good products. China labeled products are going branding. I also hope the quality of the products and the supervision work can be bettered in accordance with the international standard.

Unfortunately, our standard in overseeing the qualities of all kinds of products are lower than the developed countries. And there are always lack of supervision work.

Absolutely! they are now being considered as a world leaders and have enough wealth and army that can conquer the world. They are already a developed nations and are still running very fast to dethrone the others who are competitors to them.

I'm sorry I cann't agree with you. Yes, we do have wealth. We have a very large foreign reserve, but we also have the largest population in the world. Our GDP just surpassed Japan last year, but our per capita is still among the lowest in the world. And don't get it wrong my friend. We are a very friendly country. We will never conquer any countries in the world. We love peace and coorporations.

Yes, in many ways China is being impatient about development and becoming the next super power with many sacrifices offered on its way. Environmental issue is the major concern which naturally affects the social and economical imbalances in the society. Thus, China should realize that Economic, Political and Military Power without properly maintained resources (mainly the natural) equals to under-developed society. It will be just like a bachelor Billionaire who is suffering from a Cancer. Above all, what is the use of that respect when people/nations bestow just because of fear and tyranny?

I think today the problem is the officers care about their own profit rather than the people's benefits. And our government cares about the developping China image but not concern about the real lives from its people. I don't want we will spend so much to make the building much more beautiful or hold any big international events. Just spend more for our education, healthcare and so on and we will be happy to it. I love China

i am from china and love my country, however, recent years so such things happened, the china governors should realize the serious condition we faced. as far as i am concerned, how to build a system to defence the corruption is a really important things for our country. economy booming doesn't mean everything.

i tend to agree with you. that though fast growth has advantages, it has to be done with care, to ensure safety, and care for the environment. such fast growth will not continue forever, and it is important that decisions on growth are probably thought through with the long term implications of decisions taken into account.
