What’s the importance of give a tag to any discussions?

Can anybody tell me that what the importance of giving a tag name to any discussion. Because I have seen when anybody posted their own discussion then they always like to give a tag name to their discussion. And when I asked this question to one of mine friend then he told me that it is important thing because when somebody searched a discussion with the similar tags then he can get your discussions also. And your discussions get more responses by peoples. So what you say about this.

i think the tag is served as the key words to a discussion.because when seeing the tag,people will think of some other things while reading your discussion.On the other hand ,when writing the tag ,the writer himself will draw a conclusion about his own topic.Always doing this can improve the writer himself.

You friend is right. Tags can directed you to a certain discussion you are looking for. If you search family, there are lots of discussion about family because those discussion tagged family with their discussion. That is the primary use of tags, to simply and easily see every discussion with the same tags. So that your friends will not only see your discussion but different people in the community of Mylot.
