Let's talk about sleepwalking

I once heard a news about a tragic incident of sleepwalking. An old man lives nearby the road/street where buses, cars and other vehicles pass. One night, the old man unconsciously got up and walk outside mumbling something with eyes shut. Unfortunately, a ten wheeler truck hit him and died on the spot. Now, it made me realized that sleepwalking is dangerous. It is not something to be ignored. It is something to deal seriously. And, my sister is one of the sleepwalkers and I want her to be safe all the time. Now, what are the causes of sleepwalking? Why is this happening? Let me share you the information that I have read: The causes of sleepwalking are sleep deprivation, where you sleep less. Chaotic sleep schedules..fever, stress, magnesium deficiency, alcohol intoxication ( probably too much intoxication of alcohol) and inherited by the family most especially the identical twins. (genetic factor) Who among you here sleepwalk frequently? What did your family members tell you? Comments are appreciated.

sleepwalking - it can be dangerous
I never have such experience..Most of my times sleep I am conscious on what I am doing. Some of my family members are just sleeptalker, mumbling words in sleep but there was once when one of my family member did that sleepwalking. Just once and gladly after that he never did the same thing again.(^^)

Hey thanks so much for the information. I had heard a lot sleep walkings but neve knew the cause of it. Anyway I remember some cousins talking about my other cousin who used to sleepwalk and the strange thing was she sleep walked to the kitchen and started making tea in her sleep Don't know how true that is but that's what I heard.

I myself never sleepwalked, but my younger brother and uncle both did. My uncle was lucky because my grandma's house was right off the train tracks. My mom heard my uncle walk down the steps so she followed him out of the house because it was late at night. He started walking along the train track then a train was coming. My mom pushed them both down and the train ran right over where they were laying but the cars were higher back then so they were fine. She woke him up after that and they walked in the house. My younger brother walked out of the house on my birthday and I asked him what he was doing. He said stargazing so I took his arm and guided him back in the house and back to bed. In the morning, he said he was having a dream about star trek.

I slept walk only once my entire 33 years of life. I was in high school then and i was preparing for an exam the next day. I didn't sleep in my bedroom as i knew i would fall asleep instead of studying. So i took my pillow and blanket with me and settled myself in the living room. I also planned to wake up early so i could study again. Due to exhaustion i fell asleep while still studying and the next day i found myself comfortable curling in my own bed. I got puzzled for a few minutes. I asked my sisters and housemaid if one of them carried me into the room but none of them did. Surprisingly i also brought my pillow and blanket with me back in the room. They didn't consider that as something that was dangerous at that time. It happened only once and i hope it won't happen again.

i never met a person who is a sleepwalker in my life. I agree that sleepwalking is a dangerous disorder that can cost us our lives but i never really understand how someone can be a sleepwalker, how does their brain recognise the surrounding environment. when a person is sleepwalking do their eyes open or close?

One time, several years ago my doctor put me on a sleeping pill because I would go two days with no sleep, and obviously that is not healthy. Three nights later I dreamed I got up in the middle of the night, got in my car, and drove around. I almost went into a ditch, almost hit a tractor (in the middle of the night on the backroads, it seems farmers get up early), jumped a curb, and hit a stop sign. The next morning I woke up and thought, what a weird dream! I got up for the day, went outside, and the headlight at the front of my car was hanging out. It hadn't been a dream at all! I only remember bits and pieces of that night, but I was sleepwalking due to that sleeping pill. Come to find out, it had happened to several people taking that medicine. I never took it again.

I was stressed out as I did not want to move in the first place anyway.my son who was in the other bedroom never knew about it. again lately I sleepwalked just pushing my walker to the bathroom . I was under a lot of stress from my nagging roomie. but just twice is not so bad.

For me yes it is hard to deal with but everything you would do before you sleep in the night take a prayer to Jehovah God that he cured your bad habit like sleepwalking.

hi tess:) I never been seen a sleep walker before just in movies, but it said that sleepwalkers don't know what they're doing because its like they're dreaming. But I already saw a sleep talker, because my mom sometimes talk while she's dreaming and if we ask her the next morning she don't have any idea what she said when she's sleep.
