What Bothers Me About Reality TV Competitions

Have you ever noticed that when you are watching a reality TV competition, that the contestants always say things like, "If I win this competition it will change my life." I just want to scream duh! Of course you will be $200,000 richer, or you will now have a recording contract, you will have a dream job, you will get to write your own cookbook and have it sponsored, you will get your own TV show. Of course it is going to change your life. I also when they say, "Winning this will mean the world to me." Of course it will, but it will mean just as much to every other contestant you are competing against. I know I am being fussy, but does this kind of thing annoy anyone else?

They sound like canned responses, ladym33, and they annoy me too like fingernails on a chalk board. I want to scream! But I usually just change the channel.

Changing the channel is the best solution.

I think this is a way for them to add some interest, although rather a really played and tried way. Well most certainly your life is going to change. I mean you were nobody before you went on this show. You might be a bit more famous, more people might have even heard of you. Even if you lose, your life is really changed in a way, as your face is one many people would recognize. It is just one of those things where with anything. When they go into something, anything, that's going to change your life. This is something that is going to change your life in a big way. It doesn't really bug me, but it is just one of those examples of stating the absolute obvious. It just seems like, "well certainly, of course". Just by competing your life is already different, its already changed and if you win, it will change for so.

Sometimes it does make you wonder, and you are like Well, what are they really thinking? Are they prepared for the challenge when they do win to keep everyone proud of them, and become the Star they were wanting to be? Not everyone makes it even after winning so in reality, it all up to them what they are willing to do to keep the status once they win.

Yes, I know what you mean. I always think that everyone is feeling the same way. Why do they think they are the special ones that it matters most to? They all want to win and it will all do them good in their lives. Otherwise, I doubt they would have signed up to compete!

Haha! I usually do not pay attention as to what they say will better their lives. I think it is sort of funny that they mention this but then they are right though, as winning will certainly change their lives. Some it will be for the better and sadly for some it will be for the worse. I say worse because some of them have their egos rise and destroy the money some way, while others perhaps spend it way too fast.

I really haven't noticed it, but, then, I really don't watch much television. The last time I watched a "reality" show was this last season of "America's Next Top Model." Honestly, I don't even remember who won... or even really remember any of the contestants. I've already pretty much decided that the television won't be going with us when we move again. I didn't have a television for quite some time before we moved to Florida, and I'm ready to go back to not having one.

Yeah, it gets annoying sometimes. Sometimes participants can sound really dumb on tv that's why sometimes I don't wanna watch any reality TV.

This doesn't really bother me. Do you actually enjoy watching reality TV competitions? Because if that bothers you I am not sure how you can watch them. The reality of it is, if they are on a popular reality TV show their life is probably going to change regardless of whether they win or not. For example I used to love watching America's Next Top Model. Many of the contestants become successful models after the show even though only one can win each season. The publicity gained by being on one of these shows gains you attention and if you really have skill or some other "it" factor your life will change.

the thing about reality shows is that- it's not real. i often wonder why some people are too gullible or too attached to the drama of "real" people. i don't watch reality shows. i can't stand it. what annoys me most is that they pretend and they they go on convincing everybody that it is the actual reaction of the participants, when in fact all of it is scripted. just imagine how those cameras are positioned just in time for that "surprise" emotion. i don't intend my response to be a rant, i swear.

I think they say that so that it can boost their self confidence and at the same time they will increase their self esteem and they will be able to do their task well by setting their minds to be positive that they will won the game.

no. not at all! i am aware to the fact that reality competions DO change life for the participants and it makes me feel so happy. many times, winners of reality, were poor people(financialy), who lived in a very bad neighbourhood and were struggling to exist. winning the reallty made them changed their life and living in dignity.so, yes they can say "it changed my life".it is so touching to see some stories and, of course not annoying.
