My bestfriend and her older sister went to Banco de Oro_- SM Fairview branch to inquire about on how much was need to open an OFW account. They asked the teller of the said bank which don't have customer in front of her desk (they didn't notice that the teller did something important that's why she was too busy to accommodate a client). My bestfriend asked, "Excuse me, Ma'am, how much will be needed to open an OFW account?" "One hundred," the teller quickly replied. She didn't face them. My bestfriend passed the answer to her older sister. Her older sister puzzled because in BDO- MOA (Mall of Asia) Branch it was only half price. Then my bestfriend saw the poster of "Kabayan Account" something like that, and it tells that it only Php 50.00. She asked, "Is the Kabayan and OFW account are different, Ma'am?" "It's the same," the teller answered in a cold voice, maybe because my bestfriend disturbed her too much but then she need a clarification so she asked in a humble tone, " But, Ma'am, why does your ads here tells that it's only Php 50.00?" The teller got mad and faced her. "It's Php100.00. Why? Do you only have Php 50.00? Is that the only money you have?" It's kind'a loud, you know, that's why some customers nearby look at their side. They were shocked and feel humiliated on the tone that the teller used. They were really feel embarrassed.. they went out and forgot to get the name of the teller. I really feel sorry for them.

What?! that's just so wrong! If you have a Facebook account, I suggest that you post this story or even post it on a BDO official site. It's a wrong example of customer service, and I believe the higher ups wouldn't want that, and they'll definitely do something about this matter.

i check the facebook and i don't think if they entertain this kind of stuff because there are lots of complaints but it seems that they didn't response... it really disappointing... the number one bank here in Philippines doesn't know how to value their customers...

i am so sorry to hear this and very upset as well. those people has no right to do nor say something like that. i also disagree that BDO is the number one bank in the Philippines. i agree with hexabella that RCBC is one of the good ones and BPI. dont let people who needs to serve people do this to you. they dont have the right!!!. they should have talked with the manager. they need to go back to school to learn Good manners and right conduct. so angry!

I don't think they are the number one bank in the Philippines, they just have lots of branches, that's all....I am maintaining an account with them....but mostly I use RCBC, I believe RCBC is stronger than them..check it out

They should have called the bank manager and complained about that behavior...i have a tip...if you are transacting with a bank, hotel or restaurant....display a domineering behavior....don't call them ma'am, you are the client hence you are the one supposed to be called ma'am....if they see that you appear to be domineering (and with poise)they will give you due respect....it's their job and you have all the right to complain....do you know that I argued with a bank manager in front of many people because i was pissed off with their service?....and I did it in English LOL! .....actually it's not his fault...it was because their system was down....i don't even have an account with that particular branch...my branch is with the head office....but customer satisfaction is their responsibility....this really works...try it :)

@hexabella, How I wish we can argue in English too but that's not the point... Teller should not base if their customers can speak in English so that the can give them respects and special treatments. This is the one of the reasons why our country is still in low progression because of the word discrimination... They only praise those who are in tops and forget that without the lower class they're nothing. But I'll take not of what you've advise. Maybe sometimes, we should stop being humble in a rude teller like that.. thanks!

@LetranKnights25, To be honest, I couldn't help myself to compared the services of BDO to BPI. BPI tellers were more accomodating and they're extend their hands to their customers. They were humble and polite.. You will feel how important you are to them.

Hexebella, I guess if you really don't act like dominant then there's no way they will ever respect us customer, that sucks. we shouldn't act like dominating if they weren't such a pushy people.I believe they should pay a visit to this teller and show her attitude of a real dominating customer. It's true they ran their business, they should treat us with respect

That was rude! The nature of her job, aside from being a frontliner, is to invite clients to open an account with them. I used to be a bank frontliner too (but that was just like three months--fresh after graduation). I handled the new accounts department. And I assume, your friends went to that department, since that department handles inquiries and opening of accounts, among other things. Given the scenario that she was busy with whatever, her reaction from your friends inquiry refelected disrespect and at the same time insult to the prospective client. This kind of behavior must be brought up to the bank officer (bank head or bank manager), since it is also the bank officer's responsibility to check if their clients are being treated well, given the fact that the clients are the ones bringing in the income to the bank. Shall you go back to BDO SM Fairview to assist your friend with the complaint, go straight to the manager. Be firm and show authority. Do not pose as if you are having some self pity. Insist that your friend was insulted and they were not treated right. Ask your friend to identify who the frontliner was. She deserves some reprimanding from the bank officer.

I asked my bestfriend to go back to BDO-SM Fairview but she doesn't want to. I guess, she was traumatized on what happened. I can't complain alone because I wasn't there when it happened. I just keep telling her that this incident shouldn't happen again. She shouldn't shut her mouth and she must fight for the right thing.

Could you at least ask your friend to point to you the teller so you could get her name and file the appropriate complaints regarding her rude behavior? I bet the teller would not even remember her.

That teller is very rude. She might had a bad day but she don't any right to be rude to customers. They should have informed the manager or the attending supervisor about this incident. Or they can just report it to the customer service of BDO.

Oh well, there goes a prospective customer of BDO! Just because a teller was rude the bank's reputation and credibility was ruined. My bestfriend works in the said bank and I am going to mention this incident to her. I wish your friend was at least able to get the name of the offending teller.

She was a rude front service officer indeed! They are some who acted rude to customer and they are some who to coward to say the truth like what I faced when I got to one of the telco center or internet line provider center. I knew that she is busy doing her work which other clients asked her to do but it is still fine for anyone to asked her because she just need to speak and answer my one and only question. I asked her and if she can't say yes, or no she might say to me please have a sit for a while but she did not say anything but with a terrified face she keep in silent.. Suddenly the one who she served said to me whether I can't see her busy to complete her registration and that old man even asked me to take my number so they will call you and give the service. He mentioned it in a rude way. I stared at him and a bit puzzle because as far as I know anyone who wants to do anything there do not have to take any numbers because those numbers are for other clients who need other kind of services and mine do not have to have one. That st*pid old man say that I am rude because I interrupt that officer work. I don't want to be rude to that client I asked in puzzle face'should I get the number? I've been here before and you did not asked me to get one.' But that st*pid officer do not say anything to me and just looking at me in silence. She don't even back up myself because I know I don't deserve that rude words that old man said to me.The prove is there are even some other customer/clients there asked her for help and she answered them but not me!! What the....!!and that old man keep talking whatsoever words to me non stop. I even said to him no I did not have to get number but he insisted I need to get one and showed his number to me. Idiot!!! That number is useless actually. You did not have to get one. You are not even big customer even if you are wearing a tie and a coat as he only purchased cheaper thing than mine. So if I get out of that center they will lose a customer who have a big potential to buy their expensive thing. I am not satisfied I go to the other officer-he is not in the same department like the lady so he know nothing about the thing I want to buy and I made my complaint there. When the client walk away she treat me but I really have no feeling to buy the thing I want. I asked her why she did not say anything as I am not in the wrong side. I just want to ask ONE question with yes or no only. After that incident I bear in my mind that I will not buy things if they ever treat me unfairly next time.

Lte me guess, you're younger that the officer in charge? Sometimes they didn't treat right those they seem to be younger that they are. They feel superior and forget the word "humble" and "respect"

yes, I am younger and she is not look like she so older than me. Just my average. She don't treated me well that time because she is too scared of that old man.. That old man seems strict but I don't care I am not scared of him that is why I said the truth to him.

there are a lot of horror stories i have heard about the ugly customer service of BDO. i also think they should have asked for the manager so that they can report the ugly behavior of that teller. I think even if how busy that teller is she should have answered politely. she should have a seminar on customer service.

it happened that my bestfriend and her older sister only wear a casual dress maybe the teller thought that they were uneducated people.. you know, those who belong in lower class.. but eventhough that's the case SHE SHOULDN'T DO THAT!!!!! For me, she's unforgivable... she almost tear my bestfriend's dignity....

Hi meipan. What the teller did was inexcusable in any case. Tellers are the bank's front liners and should display the appropriate behavior towards customers or clients at all times and without any form of prejudice as to what they wear, what they look like or how they speak. Courtesy is due every customer or depositor of the bank. It is sad that your friend did not report the incident immediately to any of the officers of the said bank. Maybe things could have turned out differently.

Oh my gosh, I think they should stand up for themselves. They shouldn't let anyone treat them that way. They should have complained or something. Maybe your best friend's older sister is too shy to complain about it. She shouldn't be. It's their right that they should report it.

That is very unethical of that teller, well even if the teller had a bad day it doesn't mean that she have to affect her job as a teller. You know what, if I were in that same position as your bestfriend, I will ask where her manager is or just go straight to her manager and complain about the incident. After that, I will send a complain e-mail to BDO regarding the said problem

The teller from Banco de Oro, SM Fairview, should undergo re-training on customer service. Tellers are often the ones who gives the customers their first impression of the bank. If they fail to give people at least a smile it will reflect how badly the bank will serve them in the future. So sorry for your friend's plight with the particular branch of Banco de Oro. I am fortunate to have a friend who works in the same bank but in a branch near our place. She is the epitome of great customer service. She does almost everything for me whenever I visit their branch. She just lets me seat by her table and assists me with my transaction by bringing them to the tellers herself. All I have to do is wait by her table till the transaction is completed. You will tell me that she does this because she is my friend? She does this for every client of the bank who seeks for her help that is why clients are often times the ones embarrassed with the way she serves them and sometimes just opt to fall in line. Banco de Oro front liners could learn from her a lesson or two on personalized customer service!

bdo? - i don't know it's just pure discrimination
Hello Meipan, I don't think she was doing her job as a teller. I believe you're best friend should have considered calling the attention of the manager and complain this situation of the teller. SHe has no RIght to do that, it will completely discourage more people from acquiring to Bangco De Oro. It's a good thing that I don't have an account there i can obviously feel the wrath of being treated that way THEY SHOULD GO TO THE MANAGER to complain such behavior.

Yeah, I also told her that she shouldn't allow those kind of people to humiliate them because without us they have no jobs/works/careers. She shouldn't need to put herself in the lowest position when encountering those kind of people co'z she was the client and she deserve a proper treatment.

You should have called the attention of their manager! That is a no no for customer oriented service like theirs! What BDO branch in SM Fairview did you go? I think there are two or three branches of BDO in there. I have a branch in there too and yes, I feel that some tellers in there don't know their own bank products and sometimes I am the one telling them on the specifics of their services. But I was never given that treatment. They always try to answer my queries, even if they really don't know the answer, but never raised their voices. They are friendly, I think, but not knowledgeable with their work. What she did was rather rude. I will really get back with her if that happens to me.

I think in lower ground under national bookstore, I guess. I don't really remember which branch, I'll clarify it once I talk to her. You know, sometimes, I don't like her being nice because lots of people abuses her kindness... When she told about that, I wanted to preach rer immediately but she got too much already so I just listen, and when she was through I open my opinions and told her what will I do if was in her situation. I hope this won't happen to anyone...

That is very impolite of her. If I were the one inquiring I would immediately ask for and notify the manager. It is part of her job to answer inquiries from would be customers. I understand she may be doing something important but there is a customer in front. In customer service, courtesy tells us to stop what we are doing and entertain the customer. However I'm sure not everyone at BDO are like that. She's one of the rotten apples that gives bad image to the company.

You're right, she's rotten and if she'll continue that kind of attitude, she may infect her office-mate. I hate to tell this but lots of college graduates are lacking in handling customer service. I admit that I am one of them but it only happens because the customers were really rude eventhough I'm trying my best to be nice to them. They put me down in the lowest level of people. They treat me as if I was only an elementary graduate. And when they complain me, my manager was on my side because she saw how disrespectful they were. But I don't get why my humble friend got that kind of treatment. Arg! It really pissed me off....

They should have asked for the manager and filed a formal complaint. That teller was rude which is a no no in customer service. BDO is known for their customer service, if this one teller is ruining their reputation, I'm pretty sure she would lose her job over someting like that if your friend filed a formal complaint.

yeah, that's my bestfriend's fault. She didn't do the right thing. If I was there, I would ask the teller, " is this you find ways on how to insult your clients?" You know... about their tagline, "We find ways" but unfortunately, I wasn't there. And the teller should thank my bestfriend because she didn't get her name and complain her. She's lucky.

That was really rude. The teller, if she can't stop what she's doing at that moment could just easily point them to ask another teller or she can politely tell them to wait until she is done. Your bestfriend and her older sister should've not left the building. They should have reported that teller to the manager.

That was really rude! If the BDO teller is too busy doing something, she could refer them to another teller! They can still go back to that BDO branch and get the teller's name and file a complaint and ask for an apology since they are humiliated in public. I hope I will not encounter such situation because I will do everything that will make the teller feel sorry for messing with me! :D

They should have complained to the manager of the bank. They should have been treated with respect and served as customers. I would be very mad if I experience something like that. The officials of the bank should have been informed.

12 Aug 11
she's very rude! They should have complained to the Manager. But when you said that she was saying it in a loud voice then what about the other officers there or the Manager? They should have been able to hear that and I know her sup. or officer would not be pleased by her attitude and went to your friend and asked her quiries. If that happened to me I would even go where their Main Branch is located and report it to the HR. She's in a business wherein she should be polite to all their clients. Or maybe the teller does not have a clear idea on how much one can open even if its public knowledge. If its a new promotional churvanezz of the bank then she may have no idea at all. The one they should have approached is not the teller but the one who handles New Accounts. Yun tlga ng entertain clients inquiries etc. or yun mgoopen account. but then again, the way she answered is not right. so, advice your friend to report the teller or you and your friend can go there then ask her what the lady looks like and then YOU go inside and get her namen then approach the manager of that branch. Hope that helps. But really I feel bad for your friend and sis. Are they so meek and just let that lady embarrass them? They are a rare kind :) usually people would not take that kind of attitude :)

Whoah! What a disgrace! Maybe she's in menopausal period that's why she was like that, just kidding. Her actions were lame. She did not know what she's talking about yet she had that confidence to judge them on a bad manner. They should have not walked and instead called for the attention of the branch manager. Such actions should not be excused. They should provide us with good customer service. That's their job, anyway.
