Do you think that we are here for a purpose?

Are we here for a purpose or is it just by chance? It is my belief that we lived before coming here and that we agreed to everything that happens in our life. Many will find this difficult to accept but in the world of spirit, we understand things much better than we do here, you might say that we 'see the big picture' and so know the things that we need to experience. After coming here, the curtain is drawn and people rarely remember anything about the world that we left behind. I think too that it is very likely that we live many lives on the earth, and maybe on other planes as well. Physical death is not the end and spirit cannot die. What are your beliefs, and what do you think is the purpose of life or is there any purpose at all?

yes we are. each person has one. I know mine, I don't know everyone else's. life has a purpose, otherwise it's meaningless. why bother living life on Earth at all?

I am not very 'spiritual', but I do believe that we are here for a purpose. And mine is to make damn sure that my children are ready to face their future. You might consider this a very simplistic purpose, but it is something that I have derived in my life. I believe that I've experience all in my life so that I could pass on the lessons I've learned to my kids.

i believe differently. i believe we are here for a purpose all right but not that we lived before. there is a connotation for that belief, i do not remember. anyway, i believe we are here for the purpose that the one true God had given us and that is to serve Him and spread the good news.

Every thing happens for a reason. I follow this ideology. Whatever happens, its for your own good. Though we may not possess the vision to foresee the upcoming situation, complain about it without knowing the hidden truth behind it but as time passes by and we look back to how things went, we'd feel quite satisfied. It entirely depends on us, our actions; whether we step forward to fulfill our destiny or sit back and let somebody else take the credit. When you possess the potential to make a difference then its your responsibility to lead from the front. People like to put it this way- "We make our own destiny", but I say "The time you become aware of your potential is the time when destiny declares you fit to carry on the proceedings of your life and hands the game plan of your life over to you".

Hi Pose: I don't completely agree with you but just as you do I think there's a purpose on our lives, but we create this purpose throw our actions and making use of our talents and the abilities we develop here on earth. At the same time I think we are not here just for a casualty and if we can get to help someone, or change someone's life in a possitive way, to touch a person that was yet a reason to be here. ALVARO

Hi starsailover, There is nothing wrong with disagreeing on some things, after all none of us has all the answers or has to be right all the time. We agree that life has a purpose and that purpose is about making life a little better, not only for ourselves but for those around us. To change a life in a positive way is a real challenge with great rewards. Thank you for sharing these thoughts. Blessings.

Truth is I never put so much thought in what after life has in store for me. Although I try my best to be the best person I can be, I more on do it out of goodness sake and not really to prepare my self for something out there. My mantra for so many years now is "to do what I need to do so that others can do what they have to do." This is how i see life. If it is designed to be as it it, then I do not have issues with it. I just do my thing everyday trying to be the best mom, wife, daughter, friend and what not. With so many things going on in my life now, having to worry what tomorrow brings is the least of my priority. Let God lead me to it, and I'll just follow him.

All of us born and living on this earth carry with us certain purposes assigned to us by the Almighty. He in turn has devised and designed each one of us to perform a kind of deed or action assigned by him . This is perhaps why no two human being are alike in appearance, mode of living, personal traits and behavioral patterns. It is in fact quite a strange and rather mysterious phenomenon.

I do think we are each put here for a purpose..great or small. And I also believe that we did live before in another lifetime...sometimes when things look familiar or a memory pops up that can't be explained I think that is our hint of where we have traveled before. There has been times when its like I have a flashback...strange.

Hi jillhill, Thanks for commenting and there are times when it does seem strange, but maybe it's strange that we don't have more flashbacks or longings. Thank you for your comment. Blessings.

There are many different purposes in life, but here I think that we come here to share our ideas and views and experiences with each other, good or bad. It is a good platform for us to make it here at myLot. So long as we wish to share something, here it is. Also I agree that spiritual life continues if physical life is gone. Enjoy yourself, Pose.

You know that I agree with you mainly. I do think we each are here for lessons, this is why we see so much trouble in some lives that we feel should be going better, we don't have the whole picture which would include past lives. The problem I have is seeing the lesson to be learned before it has past me by, I am afraid that I am doomed to do this all over again. Blessings

Hi savypat, I somehow doubt that any of us are doomed to do this all over again. we certainly don't learn as we should from all our experiences and there are no doubt things that will have to be experienced again in some way. Who knows how many times we've been here before? It may be in the hundreds or even more. It's likely that most of us need a few more experiences here yet as well. There are of course other planes of existence as well, or at least that's how I feel about it. Thank you for sharing my friend. Blessings.

Wow, you have a very similar view to my mother! I like that notion of life and meaning, but I just can't see much evidence for it. =( I know there are certain strange phenomena like 'collective consciousness' that seem to suggest more spiritual origins... I think the example I got given is that sparrows (some small bird that lives around towns and villages in many different countries) worked out how to get milk out of milk bottles left behind by the milk-delivery man at all around the same time. =) Asin, in England... these birds realised they could peck through the lid (or some-such) to get the milk, and pretty much the same time in Australia it happened! No bird could have flown over there and the milk bottles were around for a long time before the event. So surely birds would figure it out at different times. A fun story... but coincidence is always a rational explanation. I believe slightly more in the 'chance' theory at the moment. But only slightly! =)

Hi Joe, I don't think that there is such a thing as coincidence. There is a reason and a purpose for everything that happens. Thank you though for sharing your thoughts on this, we all have an opinion. Blessings.

Well yeah. I do think that we all have a purpose. Even posting in myLot can be a purpose. I mean, we could have opted not to join, thinking that this could be a waste of time, instead of working hard at regular jobs, we find time to post in myLot, and we may be doing this (initially) to earn extra money. But, some discussions here talk about one's problems, and we all give our comments which we think could help this person. And we're able to help him/her, one way or another right?

I have no idea. There is so much violence in this world. If we have purpose and so many people suffer. So it means they purpose is to suffer and be unhappy. I prefer to think that we decide what purpose we have in our life. We decide if being here will be fruitful or fruitless.

Hi dodo, Thank you for such an honest response. There is a great deal that we do not know and will probably never know while on this earth but I have never doubted the spiritual side of life. Always show compassion and kindness and share your smiles with others. We can all make a difference in our little corner of the world. Blessings.

Yes we are here for a specific purpose for each of us, or unique to each of us, as well as a general purpose. In general, our purpose here on earth can be summarised very briefly two-fold. I am also in agreement with what you have written in your opening comments, though I'm more familiar with different terms. We agreed to incarnate in the exact way we are for the purpose of knowing God or in other terms, knowing our highest selves as well as to bless this world. The two go hand in hand. I believe we can know our past lives & use these inborn talents for our own development & to be of great blessing to others. Over many life-times (depends) we draw ever closer to the centre of all wisdom until we ultimately merge with this almighty force - some call it God.

Are we controlled by God, or would you use another expression? "Controlled" seems to imply we have no free will, & God certainly gave us free will. You might like to expand on this one.
