My eldest daughter wanted a guitar for a very long time but I have no extra money to buy it. Luckily her auntie gave her money which could be a good start to have the guitar. We canvassed for the guitar and found out that she needs twice the amount which she already have. Upon learning it, her very supportive grandmother (our wedding sponsor) offered that she will travel in a town where there are guitar factory and will pay for the lacking amount. Today, my daughter received it and is very happy to finally have one of her dream instrument. She got an extra bucks changed because the price in that area is almost half of the price here. It is a dark violet guitar, pick-up ready and made of a good wood which is Langka. With her enthuasiasm to learn, I know soon enough she will be playing good music. Do you think guitars are not for girls? The mother of my friend was asking, why not have a piano lesson instead of a guitar. If you are a mother of a teenage girl, will you allow her to have a guitar lesson.

Some of the best guitar players that I know of are women (: It's good that she got what she desired.. those who become adept at instruments... Those instruments often become just as much a part of them as their own hands. I'd let my daughter learn any instrument that she desired.

Thank you zoey7879. I hope that my daughter could learn soon how to play the guitar so that she can render good music to our family and maybe to our officemates. She had done that last year at our Christmas Party where she plays the flute while my youngest daughter sings "Faithfully".

A great way to learn without lessons is through getting a tab or chords chart. Chords are represented through pictures or just by saying G Am D Tabs are more of a graph E----1---2 D----3-3-3 A-4-13-2-2 G------------ B------------ E-----2---1-- Thats a craptastic example of a tab chart. It represents the string by its corresponding note and then the fret by a corresponding number. This was how I learned to play, and I was playing some pretty popular songs within an hour through this method. Songs such as "Stand by Me" are VERY easy to learn through this method, and Youtube is full of talented people who have uploaded tutorials. Best of luck to your daughter (:

Thank you for a quick reply. I have to know this because sometimes she was asking for help to research for chords. I already made a research last Friday and found out two options, the chords and the tabs. I was asking my officemate on what to print and told me to use the chords, now that you suggested to use the tabs, I will get free copies of it. You have explained it in a short but very clear, I'll just copy and paste it so that my daughter could read it at home. Yes, youtube had help her a lot, in her studies and in music. Youtube had been her personal tutor for a long time now.

That sounds like a very nice guitar. I think it is great she is going to learn the guitar, why force her to learn the piano when she really wants to learn the guitar. If she really wants it she will probably spend more time learning and practicing. My friend used to play in bands and he was mostly self taught except for about 10 or 12 lessons on guitar and base. If you can afford a couple of lessons for her then she can do lots of practice and learn things from books and the internet. There may be even be lessons on youtube that she can learn from. I started teaching my self the guitar for a while after one or two lessons but I didn't have anyone else to play with so I didn't keep it up. If I had been younger when I had started learning, like your daughter, I think it would have been a lot better. At her age she will probably meet other people to eventually play in a band with her, or she may eventually be someone who sings and plays the guitar, and even write her own songs. When you get books of sheet music for the guitars it usually shows you which notes/chords to play so once you now how to play chords on the guitar it is pretty easy to play songs from sheet music. Or if she knows someone that plays they may be able to show her how to play some songs pretty quickly. Some songs only have a few chords in them, so it can be much faster how to learn to play a good song on the guitar than on the piano.

Yes, any of those types of classes will surely be a help, and as you said she will also be able to find her way on youtube and she can read your materials. I know there are lots of books about learning the guitar like "the complete guitar player".

Maybe all she needs to start is a good lesson on how to read the chords. I already research some materials in the net and printed it. Knowing my daughter, she will be too eager to understand it and I'm sure she will find her way through youtube too. One of my officemate is very willing to give her a lesson, the problem though is she was too busy in school. It would be better to have a lesson in the school anyway I think it is free because they want them to perform on November for the 50th founding anniversary of her school.

I am exctied for your daughter. If a guitar is the instrument that she prefers to play there is nothing wrong with that. We bought my daughter a guitar for Christmas last year and we intend to work her lessons into our school year this year. We intend for her music class to be learning the basics of her guitar and then I may also sign her up for some lessons if she can't learn on her own.

I'm so happy for your daughter on her dream guitar. I bet she's very happy by now. As a mother and a music lover, I love watching teenage girls playing the guitar. I don't believe that guitars are only for boys and not for girls. There are a lot of singing stars today who are girls and have guitar as their music instrument. I myself wanted to learn how to play it. I time and money will allow I would want to learn how to play the guitar. I am happy to tell you that my eldest daughter is telling me to learn to play the guitar this coming vacation and I am very happy for that. The best reason why I want guitar is that you can bring it anywhere, you can play and sing with your guitar wherever you may be. With my daughter's interest too in learning this summer, I'm really looking forward for that and will let my daughter teach me whatever she will learn in playing the guitar.

Thank you Xuyxuy... She is really happy, I'm sure your daughter will have fun too when she starts to play the guitar. My daughter is busy now watching in youtube to find online guitar tutorial. And she was lucky because her teacher and classmates are willing to teach her.

BTW, Langka is a good material for the guitar. Her grandma probably got it from Cebu because that is the only place you can get it cheap. My husband's family is from pampangga. They manufacture guitars for RJ. Although they don't have langka guitars. Just saying...

Hello Fragab. Does your husband's family sell guitar online? It was very expensive here in Olongapo. The junior size guitar without the p-up and the bag would cost almost P990.00, the cheapest and would be higher depending on the wood. Her classmates would want to get one too but don't know the place to buy it. Anyway, starters doesn't need the very nice and expensive Langka Guitar if it would come from their own money.

Nah, I don't think they sell online. They are kind of oldschool salesmen that they just manufacture what was ordered. they are not into new ways of selling their stuff. but they are just in guagua, perhaps i can ask them to expect anyone...

Sorry, but I find the Piano suggestion way over the top. Does she even know how much a piano lessons would cost, much more a piano? In this day and age, piano is not a thing among teenagers anymore. Although it could be a good talent if she likes playing with it. Anyway, my niece is 13 and she is level 4 in her piano class. The leveling is set by a London Music Authority whatsoever that i can't remember the name. What I am trying to say is that, it does not matter what instrument she choose so long as that is what she wants. Gender is no longer an issue when it comes to art, music and even sports. BTW, my other niece is sports-inclined. It does not bother her at all that she is a girl and she competes with boys bigger than her size. Actually, she just placed 1st yesterday while competing for Alaska IronKids in Camsur. So, really, gender is no longer an issue to date.

Wow, great children. Even if I would want a Piano lesson for my kids, I could not afford it at the moment. So happy that she settle for a guitar lesson, more affordable and more convenient to all of us. Goodluck to your nieces....

Exactly! But re-reading my post, I actually got it wrong, I mean my niece is into guitar lessons, not piano. LOL. But yeah, they are quite competitive. I would want that either because the training is time away from family and playtime. I want to see kids play rather than train. But anywya, I guess if they are having fun with it, then may be that is what they really want.
