The greatest Indian of the last century(arguably the greatest human being of the world),Mahatma Gandhi showed to the world what a non violent struggle for freedom can achieve. Today, we have another Gandhian in our midst who has taken on the unpopular and ineffective govt. of India. The issue is corruption and Anna Hazare has effortlessly united the people of this huge country and everyone is joining him to end corruption in the country.India will benefit from this movement and we know we cannot free ourselves without a fight. I hope the world joins this movement and establishes a world free of greed and corruption. Don't you think most countries are suffering because of corrupt governance? There is a wave of unrest all over the world but the Indian movement is different because there is no violence. It is a non violent movement and the biggest challenge will be when it becomes a non co-operation struggle for freedom against corruption. The world is watching and there are so many lessons to be learnt in this Indian struggle.

Sorry. I dont accept any of that. Neither Gandhi was the greatest human being - he was a filthy corrupt guy who lead everything for his own ego. And neither Anna is doing any good. They are all fine for people like you who do not have a long term vision. Sorry, I would not return here as I understand that my comments are unacceptable to people who are lead by the media. Just a q: What if the lokpal bill gets passed? who would frame the committes? These Politicians only na? So dont you remember what happened at CWG? Or even the BSNL Scams? I think this energy should have been correct if they spent it for removing illiteracy, poverty, and other social stigma that haunt our country... nothing yet about the common people...

Hi Sidharth, your comments are acceptable. No one is perfect not even Mahatma Gandhi but he took action. He did not sit and draw up elaborate plans to see if it will work. He was a man of action and before the Indian freedom struggle he had taken up so many projects and he began with himself. He chose to improve himself first and he shared with others what experiments he conducted on himself. You are so right , I don't have a vision , I am plodding along helplessly. And what about you ? Do you have a vision and are you acting on your plan ? Anna is not perfect but he is asking questions and he wants answers. We need answers because our needs are far bigger than Anna's wants. He has no personal belongings other than his clothes and a cot to sleep on.He could be wrong but when so many people are joining him the right path will open up, don't worry.Like they say, luck favors the brave. and he is BRAVE. Take the trouble to see what his team is saying.People like Arvind Kejriwal, Bhushan Kian Bedi...

Wow! I am surprised when you guessed my name right Yes, if you have been to my profile you would haveknown that I am suffering from some ailments, and am mostly at home. But still, within my capacity, I am doing some small steps towards educating people - I am associated with an orphanage and spend at least a sunday with the children.I too have a vision of a corrupt free India no doubt but I am sure you would agree that corruption exists here only because people (the masses) are unemployed, illiterate and poor. This is what I was suggesting about above. The Lokpal Bill or whatever steps they take to drive away corruption, will never be practical solution unless these vices are removed from the society. Annaji and others might be right but... if we think how far will the common man - not the affluents or posh community from Mumbai, Delhi and a few named cities - benefit from this Lokpal Bill I think the number will be quite less as at end, the implementors of this bill too would be bureaucrats. Mere Questions never help out unless the solutions are perfect. This is why I dont support Anna or his cause or even anyone who thinks or merely seeks questions and believes that this will in fact wipe out corruption. If it did, US, Japan and many other developed countries would have been corruption free. The telecast of their actions on the TV, publications on the Newspapers etc. are all for mere TRPs and nothing for real need. And when it comes to manhours wasted, there are millions who are glued to these and forget their work. How and why should I accept this? I see it is a national loss nothing for gains. And yes, thanks for being polite in your response. I did not accept this as on other related discussions, I read people feeling bad about my opinion. This is why I mentioned I would not return back here... but when I did, I found a pleasant and open discussion.Hope lotters understood that ponts of views and opinions differ and everyone was moreopen like you when it came to acceptance.

Sid, This is a discussion forum but people tend to argue. Then there is thing called 'Star reputation'. We all are scared to lose our star reputation. But it is good in a way it keeps out the rude and the loutish crowd. We all want to get rid of corruption and a saint is showing the way. you will realize by the end of this month.

Anna Hazare is a wonderful person who has selflessly decided to fight corruption in the country. Why should the Prime Minister not be brought under the Lokpal Bill. Isn't he answerable to the public of India? They say that investigation of corruption by the Prime Minister will destabilize India. Why should the Prime Minister be corrupt in the first place. Isn't that destabilizing India?

ok, if they feel investigating the PM may be dangerous what si wrong in investigating the astronomical growth of a scrap metal merchant who goes by the name of Robert wadhra who happens to be married to a certain Priyanka Ga...This guy has joined the list of billionaires in just 10 years. They have too many skeletons in their cupboard.

It's too early to say anything. Because this movement has just started and we don't yet know the end result. It took even Gandhi some decades before any significant thing could be achieved by him, that is too not to it's full effects. Politics is a dirty business and actually corruption oriented mind would always find a way to have it as they want or at least a portion of it. Corruption usually lies in a culture and it is that root level which one need to concentrate on. Anyway no doubt, stand taken by Anna Hazare is a big one but it is only effective if it keeps on its track... how many of people supporting him really understand the cause he is standing for?? Some times people just go with the flow...

I heard about him a couple of weeks ago, I am not a politician or member of your country, but he's not a vigilante that ruins people's businesses in protest. He's a non-violent rights activist that peacefully makes great points like our late Martin Luther King.

Yes, Gandhigiri is still now as effective as it was before.
