I am organizing a reunion for my college batch and everyone is excited since we have not seen each other for years now. I made a Facebook group and event for easy communication. One professor made a comment, "It's high time for a reunion to take place so we can see what you guys have become" Harmless comment but it kind of gave some pressure because I'm sure there would be a comparison between each other and some would try prove that they have become successful. I want our reunion to be a get together among friends and not a show off of who is more accomplished than who. If it pushes through, this would be our first reunion. Hopefully, a happy and memorable one, not a bragging contest.

That's why I dislike reunions...perhaps because I only have my husband and daughter to show for...and nothing much else. :D

What you have are the best things someone can brag about. I don't think I'd mind my friends' bragging if it's about their family.

Yes, an innocuous comment from the professor can turn the reunion into a bragging contest. It is the sole reason why I avoid reunions. Maybe I am aware that I haven’t done so well in life as most of my friends have…in any case, my friends from school days organize at least 4 to 5 reunions a year where just about anybody from our class can drop in… they all keep connected thru facebook LOL. I’ve never been to any and I don’t plan to either. So in your reunion too, you’ll find some friends missing, maybe like me, they too don’t want to come out a loser in comparison with other friends.

I'm even thinking of dropping the whole thing off and just keep the reunion within my circle. If so, I'll have to come up with a new group for facebook. time consuming

I have had several reunions with my old schoolmates, former officemates and former collegemates at my house since 2008. Most of my friends are well placed financially but many have health problems due to advancing age. However whenever we got together there was absolutely no trace of bragging because whenever we met we almost became schoolboys, college boys and office mates.we simply had a blast remembering the good old days.We are all senior citizens and most of our friends are grandfathers with a few exceptions. One schoolmate and myself are bachelors.I am sure you will enjoy your renunion as you will certainly go back to your past and remember all the good things and the fun you had then.

I hope our reunion turns out just like yours. It'll be good to reminisce. That's actually why I wanted a reunion in the first place.

Reunions are ALWAYS a venue for comparisons, bragging, showing off and old rivalries. That's why I never go to any! The only kind of reunion I like is with a particular group of friends who always hung out together. That comes without all the bad comparisons and stuff because we know each other so well.

Hmmm... I'm seriously thinking of just arranging something within my group too.

Hi ddaguno! Here is how I saw my reunions. During my high school reunion, first one, which was of ten years later; there were a lot of show offs. Lots indulging in the whole look what I have done and sort of seemed very fake. Then the 15 year after graduation of high school rolled around, that all were much more settled. No one was really showing off as many realized that life was passing by. Some of those students I did see in college and lots I did not. So I guess what I am trying to say that if it is the first one there will be a lot who will embellish their lives as for some odd reason they feel they have to be great. If all remembered that life is short they would learn to relax and have a good time.

Well, we have all grown up. Hopefully. Most have their own families and have settled down. I hope that means that the bragging would be less.

What the professor said is very true! Usually, reunions becomes an avenue for others to brag of how successful they are. So much so, that those who are unlucky in life, will just remain a listener and end up not going back to any of those reunions anymore.

I really wish this wouldn't happen. Now, I'm having second thoughts about organizing this reunion. Maybe I'll stick with a small get together and not invite the teachers anymore

I like reunions..That`s the time when we see each other, and how much we`ve changed. That thing with "who is more" is very stupid.I don`t see to this event like this..I see it like time to spend with someone I haven`t seen for a long time..The memories, the old friends..everything is great.

It can never be avoided that some would really brag about what they have become. While I am okay with just listening to them, I would feel a bit out of place coz nothing really happened to me after College. I am not successful with any business or career. Most probably, when I get to our reunion, I would just be listening the whole night.

it is not at all harmful, you can brag and it is quite good, sets the morale high and creates good work in the college reunion
