Is that really comfortable...?

Kitty on a Nightstand - Is that really a comfortable spot? This is "Nenya", she's 5 months old and sleeping on my nightside table.

I've caught my little kitty sleeping in some pretty strange spots. In the trash can, on the tv, behind the bookshelf, and most recently on my nightstand. She has a kitty bed, but of course it hardly ever gets used. When I first brought her home she would sleep on the bed and on comfy chairs... but what's with kitties sleeping in strange places that you wouldn't think of as comfortable? Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Does your cat sleep in seemingly uncomfortable spots?

Oh my gosh, yes! I've got cats sleeping in all kinds of crazy places, but I can't access my pics right now because I'm not on my computer... I have pictures of cats sleeping across two tubs, resting their heads on edges of seemingly sharp things, just crazy places... right now one is sleeping on the desk next to the computer and I'm having to type with Pong tail help...

Star on a nick nack shelf - yes, that's a very hard pillow
Here you go - just one, yeah, the skirt is soft but it is lumpy

A cat is pretty small and fairly flexible so I can imagine most of the places they sleep at are comfortable fro them. I've caught my slepping in the sink and under chairs that are fairly close to the floor.. and it doesn't look very comfotable.

I've never thought about it that way, but it does make sense. It assumes me how fexible kitties are, they can cram themselves into tiny spaces and stretch themselves way up tall.

Well I can kind of understand the cats weird sleeping positons because I've been a gymnast for bout 10 years so a lot of people think some of the ways I can comfortably sleep are a bit funky

That's interesting. Hadn't heard of gymnasts finding odd sleeping habits more comfortable than others.

When they are kittens they can sleep in many odd spots, especially being so small. I don't think my cats sleep anywhere uncomfortable. They are always on something comfy to lay or sit on. The most uncomfy spot is on the floor but I think the big guy lays there in summer because it's cooler on the floor.

She is still pretty small, and I've found her balled up in pretty tight spots. She loves the trash can for some reason. I don't know why. I can't imagine that it would be very fun...

Sometimes i wonder what's going on in their minds and why they are reacting that way. I have a cat named Tom. Even up to this time wherever i go he would follow me and there are lots of times when he wants to play hide and seek with me. He would ran before me and he would hide somewhere and if i come in he will jump on me. He sleeps a lot, he stays inside the house most of the time. His favorite spot when sleeping is on the rag in front of the toilet, on the balcony and his favorite is on top of my cabinet. He used to sleep on my bed but not anymore. But what i am bothered is his behavior because he bites a lot and he can't seem to control it specially when he feels like playing with me. Don't know how to tame this kind of behavior.

I'm not expert myself. My little kitty can get pretty bitty sometimes. I have yet to hear a good tip on how to stop it. Maybe an experienced cat-owner here can help. On top of the cabinet is also a pretty weird spot to find comfortable. Maybe they're just too lazy to go anywhere else? lol

apparently the boiler is so comfortable and so it is really comfortable. He did not worry importantly it feels good. I currently have no cat, so maybe I do not know about these starnni habits of cats. nice day!

Hmm... well the boiler is probably comfy cause it's warm. At least, that's my best theory. As for these other places that cats sleep, maybe there's also a temperature lure of some kind. But I don't know about the bathtub, it's really cold.

LOL as I am someone who, so far, never had the opportunity to give a cat a home I have always thought they only love warm and soft places to sleep in like the bed or pillows or the folded laundry in the closet....... you are right these places dont seem comfy at all..... LOL

Well she does occasionally choose beds and pillows, but most of the time she seems to be choosing really weird things. lol

lol, I haven't found her in those yet. The trash cans she's been getting into aren't really dangerous, no metal, sharp, or toxic stuff. It's usually just tissues in mine, and that seems to be her favorite. But she just jumps in, and I don't really know why she loves it so much.

the trash cans would be out for a kitty nap over here. We have to use different bins for different stuff and I would not like her to sleep where the open cans and metal stuff is. So I would rather put up with her on the stack of bedlinens or towels in the closet. LOL.

I have not had cats for a while, but I remember mine would sometimes sleep in the weirdest positions and in the weirdest places. My cats would never use their beds either. They would mostly sleep in my bed.

She hasn't slept in my bed yet, but she's not really allowed in my room (I'm still somewhat allergic to cats so I won't let her sleep in my bed). There's a chair downstairs that she's pretty fond of, but most of the time she seems to be picking weird spots.

My two cats I have not figured out. Mawmaw has her special places SHE like to sleep. She is very independent and allows me to sleep with her on my bed at night. Tink does not sleep with me at night and is suctioncupped to me all day with Mawmaw leaving me completely alone during the day. Pretty amazing how they decide how and where they are sleeping and in some really funny postions.

I think they're funny to watch while they sleep. My kitty rolls over on her back and sticks her paws in the air. It's so cute! She's never slept in my bed, but she's not allowed in my room at night because I'm actually allergic to cats. I'm under treatment, and I rarely notice that I'm allergic anymore, but I'm still concerned that having the cat in my bed would end badly.

What comfortable for us seems not comfortable for the kittens. I think they are looking for warm places. I don't have a pet cat nor would allow it inside the house in the future because my youngest daughter has an asthma. It would not do good for her. Sometimes there are stray cats in our yard, I just let them eat with our dogs.

That might be it, but she also sleeps in the bathtube... which really isn't a warm place at all. And sometimes it's kinda wet too. The nightstand is a little warm, but not really anymore than regular room temperature in Texas.

Cats tend to want to sleep in warm places. As far as sleping in the trashcan I don't know..lol ..I don't notice the awkward places the cats i can now like to sleep. I had a kitty a long time ago tht liked to sleep on my monitor when it was on i suppose because it was warm.

The trash can really puzzles me. She LOVES the trash can. I feel like I'm almost always yelling at her to get out of the trash can. I've tried giving her alternative boxes to snuggle in... but noooo she wants the trash can. The monitor does make sense cause it's warm. I wonder about the bathtub though, where my kitty likes to hang out... cause it's really cold.

Kitten in a Trash Can - What is your fascination with this trash can, cat?!?!?
I have no idea, her foster owner told me that the agency had picked up the whole litter completely abandoned, and her own cat had fed them milk until they were weaned. So no idea where they were born! I'm not even sure where they were found. And when I say trash can, I mean just the little ones around the house. I'll post a picture of her in the trash can to show you what I mean. They're not particularly sheltered or quiet, and they're not the trash cans you find on the street. She's always getting into them (LITERALLY getting into them) and I'm not sure why. I think I agree about the water though. I don't know what makes it so desirable to them. I fill my kitty's bowl with water from the same faucet, but she'd rather drink it from the faucet. lol

Do you know if she was born in a trash can like? Cats when they give birth they want to have them in a quiet private place so maybe her mamama had them in a trash can like thing.I take it back about my cats I have now sleeping in odd places. I used to catch my little calico Snickers sleeping in the bathroom sink at the old apt.My cats tend to go into the bathtub too mainly I think looking for water even though they have water in their dish. I think animals think bathroom water tastes different.

Yeah, I go to school full-time. (Well... overtime... actually...) When I took this picture I was working on some school projects, and she hoped up on my nightstand and went to sleep. I thought she looked so cute that I started taking pictures. She woke up, obviously since her eyes are open in the picture, and did that roll-over thing. So she might be begging for attention. I try to give her lots of attention when I'm home. I play with her, and pick her up and snuggle with her all the time, but that probably doesn't make up enough.
