Sound sleep is undoubtedly one of the greatest pleasures in the world that is available absolutely free. Roughly one third of our life is spent sleeping and that is the time we actually forget all our worries, get complete relaxation and possibly enjoy the most blissful hours. When we are disturbed and stressed, what we really should do is free our minds of the worries plaguing us. A good sleep not only relaxes us but refreshes and rejuvenates us thereby preparing us to continue our quest with renewed vigor and passion. The beauty of sleep is in the realty that we can indulge in it at anytime, it helps us recharge ourselves and it is an antidote for any and all worry. So it erases each and every pain, be it physical or mental. Actually we experience the beauty of sleep, when one is really tired and exhausted. But this is near impossible because when we are awake our mind is constantly juggling various thoughts and ideas most of it centering on the problem we are trying to forget. When we are tense, anxious and confused sleep eludes us and occasionally when we do drift off to sleep, we have a disturbed sleep which really does not give us the rest and comfort we normally enjoy in a good sleep. If we manage to get a sound sleep despite our anxieties, occasionally with the aid of a sleeping pill, it still helps us gather our wits and calm our nerves. Relief from pain is best experienced when asleep and that accounts for the prescription of sleeping pills for those in pain and for those who are sleep deprived or who are prone to panic attacks and depression. Some could be bodily ills manifesting itself in pain and discomfort that prevents one from having a good sleep. Sleeplessness could often be a very significant indicator of worry. The ‘quality of sleep ‘one gets matters much more than the ‘quantity of sleep’. It is ideally suggested that each one of us must enjoy 8 hours of sound sleep. Catnaps is a technique of enjoying sound sleep for a limited time (normally during the afternoon after lunch) which is the equivalent of putting a mobile to charge up for then we too can be fully recharged after a catnap. However, the compulsions of modern work ethics do not really permit many to have this luxury. I always go to bed at about 10.30pm and get up at 5.30am , irrespective of weather ; there is some deviation if I am very sick. I feel recharged. How many hours you sleep? Do you feel fresh? Please share your views and comment on this. Thanks in advance. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. .

Hello Papa! I have had trouble sleeping for most of my life. I only sleep maximum of 6 hours. I am a headache sufferer for many years since I was 8 years old. They have worsened in the last 2 years and find that now for the last couple weeks they are unbearable. I do have an appointment finally with a doctor tomorrow. I would like to get to the bottom of why I go to bed fine and after six hours my head starts to pound. I have like a body clock because I am up without a clock on target after 6 hours and in pain. I can't say I feel refreshed because of my lack of sleep I am not able to comfortably awake refreshed daily.

I think when relaxed sleep can be wonderful then all the body can rest. It can stretch out of the body or the body can curl up. When I feel stressed it can be challenging to get off to sleep like the night I faced after bad news in my pregnancy. In the night I sleep when I can and get up to do my disabled son's catheter care. Also my daughter can be tricky in the night. I don't sleep as many hours as I need I feel very often. If my daughter has a cat nap in the day she won't go to sleep at 7 in the evening. She often get carried to bed at 9 in the evening and wakes up screaming plus crying at midnight. I hope that by 3 and a half she might grow out of wanting to sleep in mommy's bed.

A good night's sleep is very important to a person's health. There are five stages of sleep. First three are usually just getting setting and feeling comfortable. Then usually, sometimes sooner, the fourth and fifth are the R.E.M. sleep which is the most restful. I have heard that a short nap can do a person a world of good.

I will typically sleep for about 7-8 hours each and every night. Sometimes I will sleep more than that because I get exhausted depending on what I am doing. However, it almost always seems that the amount of sleep that I get at night is right around 7.5 hours. When I'm sick, I will sleep far more, but I am not the person that is able to sleep around the clock, regardless of how sick that I am at a given time.

I usually sleep 5 to 6 hours and with it I usually feel okay. But when I get to sleep for only 4 hours or below I feel sluggish and with low energy. I think better when I complete my usual 5 hours sleep. When I was younger, I am more hyperactive. But now I feel that my physical strength is not the same anymore. What I do is I try to catch up with the sleep that was deprived of me and I resort to drinking vitamins and exercising. You have a nice discussion here. Have a nice day.

Hello Professor. I used to have sleep problem before, primarily due to the stresses at my work. After a long stressful day at work, I could not sleep well at all. More recently, I have been practising meditation. That is an excellent way of relaxation and getting relieved of the stresses of the day, physical and mental. That so much helped getting sound sleep too.

oh professor thats my big problem as for the past several night I toss and turn hour after hour, check the time, run to the bathroom b bu t sleep no, why cannot I just relax and go to sleep like my roomie does? I just don't know why I was like that all night last night, I was concerned about my diabetes and not having any supplies for low blood sugar, b ut I did not run low,it was normal not high b ut not really low. yes I just could not fall asleep. so at breakfast I feel asleep while eating, gnd my table mates nudged me. so I did lie down and slept for two ho urs. But I cannot understand why I cannot just sleep when I am su pposed to.Igo to bed at ten and must get up at six so if I just slept I would get eight hours but lately I have only got two or three at most. this is not good for me either.

When it comes to sleep I am a light sleeper! I wake up alot during the night and if it noisey outside, like a thunderstorm,I have trouble sleeping. I have been that way pretty much my whole adult life. I would love to sleep straight through the night! I haven't done that in years! When I can I do nap during the day.

Indeed, having a good sleep is great. When i was young, i was able to sleep 8 to 9 hours a day. Since my child was born until now, i am only able to sleep 5 - 6 hours a day. Sometimes, i do feel comfort but at times, seems i need more hours to sleep. When my migraine attack, i usually will spend more time to sleep. I usually don't take medicine when my migraine attack except when it was severe.
