I just found a lump behind my little boy ear.Close to the hairline on the back of the neck. It's a little red, soft and about the size of a blueberry.I have a doctor's appointment already just wondering if anyone's experienced this.I have searched the net but I only came up with a cyst and/or something to do with lymph nodes.Any ideas?

Somethimes I get something like that but I have my cartliage gauged on one ear so and it typically comes up when I make it bigger so I think it might be something that appears because of iritations

Thanks for the response SydneyJ.Finding things like this on a child is scary because you automatically start thinking the worst.

He could have just hit his head or got a bug bite but I hope for the best in your child's help.

It must have been bitten by an insect or something. I hope it is not any worse than that. Putting some creams may do more harm than good. Hope the doctor's appointment would clarify things up.

It very well could be lymph nodes that are swollen from something as simple as a sinus infection. It's very common in young children because the nodes are so close to the surface of the skin. My kids are all grown and we've been through just about every infectious disease that kids are prone to pick up at school, daycare, church nursery's etc... Let us know what the doctor says!
