hi friends.ICC had fought with BCCI over the non-using of UDRS in cricket.most indian cricketers didn't feel that this system is not 100% fool-proof. everyone outside india classified Indians and BCCI as some form of bullies. now india agreed to use UDRS. what happened? dravid was on the receiving end of 3 controversial UDRS decisions. hotspots failed to pick edges. stumps mikes not picking sounds. whats more even during the last concluded test match between australia and sri lanka, even the Mr.Reliable hawk-eye came under severe critisism when it showed wrong ball tracking. so whats the deal here? before india accepted this system, even though it was not exactly 100% perfect and made mistakes, the technology was not questioned. but now hotspot can be cheated by applying vaseline or batting under heavy sun. snicko is not reliable as the outside noise can interfere. hawk-eye is tracking the ball wrongly. so with no so reliable technologies, should indians go back to their usual NO UDRS mode. if they do,no one can blame them now.

I always had reservations about the way they use UDRS. It is not just about technology but how these humans(Umpires in this case) interpret it. For example if the aim of UDRS is to reduce mistakes then why only three chances per team? What if they use up their chances and then mistakes happen? Then on what basis third umpire comes to a conclusion? Kevin Petersen was given not out by the same umpire Erasmas because there was no evidence and benefit of doubt for batsman. But Erasmas gave Dravid out even though there was no evidence from hotspot and on just some sound! What sound is it? What is the guarantee that the sound is from a nick and not from something else? Is this guy is biased? What rules he follows to come to a conclusion? And it is proven that hawk eye is limited. It doesn't take the spin, turn and pitch, weather etc parameters into consideration. So it is not reliable to decide whether it could hit the stumps always. So these guys are exploiting the limitations of technology and coming to conclusion according to their whims and what they think it might be etc. ICC needs to analyse properly. I think they should follow some rules. 1) Set universal application of UDRS. 2) Use it for all dismissals. 3) For close LBW check whether there was an edge from bat or the ball hit the pads. (Harbhajan and Raina got out for LBW even though the ball had touched their bat first and then pads!) 4)If their is no clear evidence benefit of doubt goes to batsman. (This can avoid some teams feeling like cheated by the third umpire like in recent Dravid dismissal) 5)Third umpires should be special umpires and not those who act as field umpires. Third umpires need to be efficient in technology and they should undergo some training in using UDRS technology and they have to do case studies of past controversial decisions and analyse them properly. etc etc These guys don't even have common sense and they want to use UDRS technology. LOL! Or else just kick out all technology and just keep slow motion and replays. And leave the judgement to on field umpires! And only run outs are referred to third umpires.

Your idea is nice actually. They should subtract 10 runs for a false review! But I think players won't agree for this.

Well technology is not perfect that was the claim BCCI was making for long time. It will take some time to make the system perfect and less error prone. Still I am in favor of going for Decision Review System. Humans are more prone to error. UDRS will help in reducing those errors, though it will not be 100% accurate. If it is not used at all, we can not expect the improvement in it, it will continue to be error-prone. So, I think it should be used and simultaneously efforts should be made to make it less error prone. This will help in improving technology as well, whose knows it might be useful in some other field.

You say humans for more prone to error. That is the problem! Because humans are what use the technology. If technology says not out and umpire gives out saying that he heard some sound (!) then what can technology do? So it also depends on people who handle it. Using technology properly is the key but as you say if error prone humans use it then errors will happen it anyways. Happy Mylotting!

The two dismissals of Rahul Dravid has really highlighted the reservations of the Indian team for the UDRS. The onus is finally on ICC to give proper instructions to the umpires. If there is a referral then the third Umpire is supposed to report only what he sees via the technology available to him. He should not be getting into the business of interpreting on his own etc. He should simply say whether technology clearly marks it as out or not!! In Dravid's both dismissals this was not the case and yet the umpire declared him out. That is ridiculous!! Cheers! Ram

I still believe UDRS is the way ahead for world cricket i think it reduced the amount of umpiring errors worldwide and correct decisions have been made but off late with dravid's dismissals it seems UDRS is not perfect but i think UDRS should be given more time and i think that's the way forward.

I think there is nothing perfect..but we should go with the latest technology....sometimes most of the player affected by wrong decision of the field umpire this happen in case of catch behind the wicket and in case of Lbw..most of the cases there is a chance of nick ..and for this UDRS system there is at least one chance for the batsman to prove himself before left the field..So what I personally feel ..India should adopt this system...

I think UDRS should not be used in international cricket. It should be used and tested well in domestic cricket first.I dont understand how umpire can judge edges and snicks out of bat when its not showing in hot spot.Only flawless technologies can be used in international cricket because one wrong discion can cause severe effect on match, this time it happend with india may be next time with england or any other team.when hotspot fail to pick edges and stumps mics dosen't pick up the sound then golden rule of cricket says "Benefit of doubt goes to batsman's favour".Umpire should go according to golden rule..
