Thoughts on roads.

I watched a documentary and the people in the film had to get to a certain point and there was no roads to get there. It was all dirt and so the ride was like sailing on some rapids for 3 hours! So what do you think about roads? Do you take them for granted? Do you appreciate them? I knew someone who was very angry with roads because it determines where you get to, not yourself. He wished he can just drive freely and get to where ever he wanted, how ever he wanted. What about you? Have you ever gave roads much thought?

I do appreciate the roads in my area. I took them for granted until I had to travel some of the ones in other places.

Where I live a driver must know which road links up with another major road. There can be many closes. Where I used to live I cycled along country lanes and farm roads which only bikes or farm machinery were allowed on. Sometimes a see a road and no other road linking up where I wish to go on a map. In my home country roads seem to be taken for granted not by me though. I have traveled on some bumpy tracks in other countries. In my home country there aren't many road accidents compared with somewhere like South Africa. I went on a coach there and they said a prayer asking for a safe journey. Earlier this week two Brits drove the Dawson Highway in Alaska. It is one of the roads most dangerous roads due to snow, ice, high winds and big trucks. A few months ago I watched a documentary about a man walking the route of the Amazon. He had to make his way through places with no path. I am not suggesting a road should be made there though. I like the sound of the documentary that you watched and it must have been a tough journey for them.

We have recently had some of the roads we travel over most repaved. It is like sailing over the ocean compared to what they used to be like. I do appreciate them. I usually travel the back roads to avoid traffic and appreciate having these to chose from. I never really give them much thought until there is work being done on them.

Living in the country we spend a lot of time thinking about roads. We maintain our own road of about 1/4 mile. It's expensive and costs quite a bit, you wouldn't think a dirt road needed that much maintance but they do. They wash out or get terrible pot holes all of which require professional help. In the country our roads don't get the same maintance as the city roads do. In snow or if flooded it takes a lot longer for any government help to come. We do sometimes travel where there are no roads, if we have to go rescue an animal or human, that is when you really find the value of roads, even dirt ones.

roads are the reflection of how advanced the governance of a certain place is. here in our country, there are places that are in great need of roads, and yet these roads are not built even until a politician's term is finished. graft and corruption also affect the building of roads, facilities and other infra here.

Actually, I do. I have met people who lived when cars were new things and all the roads in Austin were dirt or a few bricked ones. I have driven on dirt roads, in Texas, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. Some of those almost weren't there, and some were pretty of scary. I've seen drawings of how people used to cross the western part of what is now the U.S. including having to haul wagons and horses and people up and down cliffs, barely ford rivers and on - I think your friend isn't really thinking, nor considering the destruction of people's property if he did that...

About road, I never dare myself to travel somewhere far, and take a long vacation. I know financially I screw up, and ultimately, I really not plan ahead for myself. I really want to embark on a trip somewhere to see the real world some day, to let myself to be free from all these troubles, problems and stresses. Maybe one day, just like some movie, I can travel the camino de santiago from Spain.

When my parents moved to the town I grew up in, they told me that there were no cement on the roads yet and they had to drive for more than two hours to go from the city to our home and it felt like they were in a roller coaster. Now it only takes 30 min. I have also been to places where there arent roads so yeah, I have given roads much thought and feel very thankful that our town's roads have been made.

I love long and winding roads. When I travel, I look forward to the travel on the road itself as much as the place I'm going to. Roads lead us to places, and on the way to those places, these roads sometimes offer us wonderful views that make us appreciate our planet more. The roads may have definite destinations, but it is still up to us which roads to take. Cross-roads, they're very interesting. Literal and figurative crossroads make our journey interesting.

Yes I have traveled with my kids on open roads and although initially I was sort of spooked especially when it was nighttime as I am use to city roads with guiding roads. I have to admit that the first time I was a bit scared but after doing so a few times, it afforded me to appreciate nature as I got to see what it was like to drive on by areas that amazed me with time. Amazed me because I found it to be very therapeutic and no types of hassle traffic combustion's and viewing what other areas were like. Same as you say that it became very enjoyable to freely drive as if there was no ending.

Inspired by you,i also think that travel is a freely word.Road of course control our mind sometime,we just want to go anywhere by ourselves, not the road.therefore,no matter where i go,i always go by myself and choose a truly place that could ease my mind.Travel is great.

roads are built for cars bikes and trucks. If you don't have any of them they seem pretty much superfluous, don't they? I think that country lanes are nicer because they don't represent such a harsh cut into nature. I've often thought about what means of transportation we might have if there were no wheelers, i.e. if there is an alternative to wheels which only really work if the surface is smooth. But it seems that - except for teleportation and flight :D - that you always need something round or something that goes in circles if you want to be fast.

Actually i like travelling and normally my thoughts becomes active inspired by what I see on the road. when your in a country travelling on a nice wide fast pace concrete road it shows the extend of the progress. Appreciate more when i travel in a taxi going thru the nooks and cranny of streets in a city coz you see what is normally the not the usual view. Dirts roads slows down the travel but it gives you a longer view of the place and gives a vivid details. When you travel on different kinds of road, a thought of inspirations pops out. thus i really like travelling alot c",)
