I don't have a ups attached to my pc. Last night, it got turned off directly due to power cut when i was typing very important notes. In the morning today, when i turned it on, it was asking for boot media. When i checked ide configuration in setup, it also showed no hard disk detected. Please help if some solution is there as the disk contained extremely important data.

I don't think so. hard disks are rugged and they don't die that easily. If you really want those files then the last option will be setting your hard disk in slave and open it into another computer. If you don't see any files of if it says the drive is corrupt then try using the software ZAR (zero assumption recovery) try searching it on the net. It works perfectly to me when recovering data on a corrupted hard disk.

Well if the hard disk doesn't work then it might not work forever. You can try to use it in another computer. Still if it doesn't work then you have lost the data. You can try some recovery software, if it works then its good. Its the only hope.

With all the relativity cheep hard drive backup programs outthere that backs your stuff up to the cloud/internet someplace, you would not have lost a thing, just the time and money to get a new hard drive and then the time to restore it, sounds like your sol

Recommend: 1.Try to reseat the cable to the hard disk and check if it is detected already. 2.Try to switch cables of the hard disk. 3.Try other hard drive if it is detected maybe your cable or slots are damage. 4.Lastly, try to find another computer and install your hard drive to it if it is detected.

Try pulling out the hard disk and attach it back again. There should be no problem but in most cases like power cut off I think the solution is reformat. How about try to access the bios if it's still in there. Or try inserting the winxp or win7 installation disk That's the last option if all attempts fail.

Good thing your hard disk is now back. That's what I always do first when I encounter problems with my hard disk. I don't proceed to reformat if I have important files on the hard disk instead I use ZAR to somehow recover my important files and if ZAR also fails then reformat is the last option.

I suggest that you also try cloud computing if that's possible. Just for back-up purposes also. And its free. Anyway, its good that your HD is working once more. The only question now is, for how long?
