Do you or have you started reading the bible? How did you get or from whom did you get the bible reading plan? I have started reading the bible recently, i mean read it and plan to finish reading it in about a year, so i have downloaded a daily plan from the internet (oneyearbible) and has started reading on it. I sometimes have trouble reading in a day though because, i'd find myself waking up late, i have to rush to my work and also i sometimes forget to read them altogether. How do you, how have you stick to the plan? I know committing to reading the bible was really a hard thing to do, but i'd say wow it sure is something i am trying so hard to accomplish. please help share how you'd been successful. thanks in advance!

I have spent a great deal of time reading the bible a few years ago. But I really have not read from it in such a long time. I know that I should get back with this plan. I have an email that I signed up for tho, that sends me verses to read and ponder on. I like that because I feel like its a message that I am meant to read. I then take the time to understand what I have read and how to apply it to my daily living. I do think after reading this I may try a bit harder to keep up with the word and let it soak into my soul. Especially in the times we are living in. The bible, the WORD of God places a peace inside like nothing else can.

ladygator would you be kind enough to please share with us what's the name of the service that emails you a bible verse a day? I think you're right. If you're commited to reading the bible every day that is a wonderful thing. Even if you can't finish a chapter in one day at least try to read a passage or a couple of verses day. Slowly but surely you will learn a little bit more each and every day and be blessed for it. It's probably easier to start out reading the new testament rather than the old.

thank you lady gator for sharing this with us. youknow, it is true and i feel that i have the same need for the word of God and it should really be done everyday. batgamer, i have a link for you.. i go to biblegateway.com for daily email received and go to oneyearbible.com for the one year plan - you should be able to finish the bible in a year if you would go with the plan, reading the bible daily.

Actually, i get to read the whole bible twice already during the times when i was not employed, after resigning from my job. Since i started working again many years ago, i have been re-reading it by chapters. But i am only able to do that on Saturday evenings after watching some fave shows and on Sunday evenings. But as to daily readings, i have my devotional , which i would read on my 15 minute prayer time in the morning upon waking up. It makes me feel good starting the day that way.

I once tried myself to commit to doing this but I didn't reach far. It was hard because there were obstacles and so I thought I wasn't ready and prepared yet. I still hoe that I get to commit to it again and go all through it the next time if I do. I hope you get to finish it and learn a lot from it and also be enlighten. God bless!

Hello there! I like your discussion and I admire you for coming up with the idea of reading the Bible from cover to cover and wanting to achieve it. I decided too of doing the same thing when I was in college because I had theological classes but I didn't achieve doing so. I tried to read the Bible from the New Testament and I managed to read until the book of John then was only browsing some books in the Old Testament especially the book of Judges coz it's very interesting to read there. But I'm wanting to read it all really. Since I have a new bible now, I think that'd make me more motivated. I think regarding the bible as some storybooks that we enjoy will make us finish reading it. I think it's fun to think that way. Cuz you know, the bible have so many interesting stories that not many people know about. Well I'm wishing you all the best with your idea. Enjoy reading with the guidance of the Holy Spirit of course. God bless you!

it is really a struggle for me, it has been quite a number of days since i read some chapters in the bible. and i do hope and wish i would be able to continue to do so. =( God has been really good to me, blessed me with everything he knows i would need, and i know he does deserve more time that i was/is giving him. I sure hope to be able to be back on track again and start to be consistent with what i have planned when i thought of the discussion.

that is really good to hear. it is great that you were able to finish reading the bible and is now just reading it whever you do need to be replenished or recharged by God; the bible is really such a wonderful thing when we read it. i believe we only need to be really determined and focus on the goal to read it daily. =(

That's good. Having a plan on reading the Bible in one year. In my case, I just usually open the Bible and read whatever passages my eyes see. I just love reading the Bible and getting to know God's character more. The verses are like new from time to time even if I know I have read it a few time already. There are always new insights from previous verses I've read after some time depending in my experiences.

I always wanted to have the goal of reading the Bible every day and to complete reading it every year. I just kept at it until I achieved that goal. This is what I do. January 1, I start reading Genesis chapter 1 and continue so that by December 31, it will be accomplished. I average about 4 to 5 pages a day but for the last couple of years this is what I do. On days when I have more time, I read more and on days when I am more pressed, I read one chapter. I try to finish the reading before the year ends and if I achieve that then each remaining day I read a chapter of my choosing that I noted so that I could reread and spent more time with it. For the last 10 years are so, I can happily say I met my goal. Here are a couple of things that keep me achieving my goal. I talk to God in prayer each day, should I not let Him also talk to me every day by reading His book? At the end of the day, how can I say to God, thanks for the day but apologize for not having 5 minutes to read His book? I also try to read the Bible first thing in the morning because it's amazing how fast a day can end. So just keep at it until you reach your desired goal. You can do it!

When I was 12-13 I think I started reading the Bible roughly a chapter a night. I didn't always read the chapter, and sometimes I read way more when I was in rough spot and wanted to read more of the Bible. I remember reading through pretty much all the proverbs on one really hard night. I didn't finish reading through the Bible all the way until I was 16 I think, and I turned back to the front and started reading it over again. I'm on my second read-through now with the same system. Sometimes a chapter a night. Sometimes more. I've reached the New Testament.

I tried really hard to accomplish reading the bible from cover to cover. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to finish it, nor was I able to read even half of the entire bible. I bought a bible, I think 2 years ago because I really wanted to finish it. Sad to say, I wasn't that much committed to reading and finishing it. I do read sometimes though, especially when something is bothering me. It really helps suit my mind and I feel really relax after.

I used to read the Bible all of the time, from beginning to end. Sadly though I find myself lacking in the area of reading it daily as I once used to. I now read it when I have this urge that just won't quit. But lately, I've been wanting to read the Torah written in English. I'd like to compare text between the two versions to see how similar they really are. Besides, it'd be nice to read the same stories with the actual names used.

reading the holy bible - reading the holy bible, I want to start again a habit of reading it every night.
I used to read the bible every night when I was in high school. But because I always come home late and I usually don't have enough time for it because of school and I usually come home late, by the time I get home I'm already sleepy and I still have to eat dinner so I really had no time. I missed many nights without reading it until I stopped completely. Now, I wanted to make it a habit again. Thanks for the site you gave, I think this will help.

bible reading is part and parcel of my daily activities. Morning and evening I do it. What is really important in reading it is how to enflesh it so that we may be able to really understand what it means to be in the shoes of those who have experienced it like the one who authored it. Indeed, it is a commitment to read it everyday but not really a thing of accomplishment. The real accomplishment of it is in the application to our daily life. Simply reading it would only mean name calling but living it is another thing. To succeed in studying the bible is its application. You may not be able to finish it but there are some verses of the Gospel that has inspired you and made you to reflect how have you been, and yo make a resolution to do good , that I think can make one say, she succeeded in studying the bible. Happy Bible reading .:-)

That is really a commendable goal my friend. I, too, am trying to read the bible although I fail several times. You're right that the best time to read it is after you wake up early in the morning so that all the information will be absorbed by your brain. Try setting an alarm so that you won't wake up late. God bless you in your sincere effort.

I think it is a wonderful thing to want to read the bible. I'll just pass on my experience since your asking and hope it helps. The bible is really a book of many books put together some of which are very old going back to the first book Genesis as which you know refers to the beginning of creation. Some books are easier to read than others and I found it much more fulfilling to go from one book to another rather than trying to read it like a large novel. The bible is an unusual book that way. Chronicles for example I did not read from start to finish because it is like a record you might find in a town hall with all the names recorded. Ecclesiastes on the other hand is the shortest book in the bible and is something of a proverb I think, my favorite book but does not need to be yours. The last book of revelation is a dream John had and recorded and is not something you can read the same way as you would say as Luke who told about the life of Christ. My point here is that each book is a different read and it is good if you have a mind set for it. As well, I found that reading passages from one book to another about specific topics helped me understand things. Now much has to do with a persons motivation and purpose for reading the bible and I think the best way is to make it a private (though it helps to discuss publicly) activity that occurs between yourself and God. Praying will make the journey much more successful. Hope this helps.
