BREAKING NEWS: We need to send money to the following country: United States Of America. Many are without food, shelter and clean drinking water. Residents are going without heat for the winter and no AC in the summer. Millions are without jobs, we need good healthcare for the sick. STOP sending our money overseas to countries that want to see America go under!!! We have people here that lack the basic human needs. Why are we spending overseas?

We are sending money elsewhere because we have lost the ability to control our government, our representatives don't care what we think and our voices are not heard. And it won't stop. We gave $2 billion to Brazil to drill for oil while at home we aren't allowed to tap our natural resources. Yes, our children go hungry while we send money to countries that wish we would be reduced to rubble. It won't stop. Not until we take back our government--we've tried voting but I think it'll take something more drastic.

How's voting supposed to work when the electoral college just has to "consider" our votes but are free to put whoever they want into office?

And California's votes go to the candidate who is ahead. Yep, the electoral college should be abolished, the people are not being heard. I was thinking more of elections for "representatives". You know, the people we elect to speak for us then they get to DC and most of them just look for ways to get rich and powerful. Keep voting them out, maybe they'll get the message? I doubt it. We need to make all offices 1 term so we don't get so many career politicians and maybe we'll get some who truly want to serve the people. Won't happen, but I can dream.

I agree that the electoral college should be eliminated ; but, they are not the cause of all the problems because the electoral college ONLY has an effect on the election of the President - not the rest of Congress. As Obama discovered - Congress can tie things in knots and pass or prevent bills. The problem is that our "representatives" lie to get elected (and gullible people believe them) and then do what ever they want once they get there. I would say we need to do away with Congress and let the people vote directly on things; but, I really don't have any faith that the majority of Americans have enough common sense to make smart decisions that would benefit our country either.

It's OK though, we can just raise the debt ceiling again!

You hit the nail on the head with this one. It is something that I have never understood. Our government insists on borrowing more and more money so that we can send it to foreign countries to give them aid for their citizens and yet they refuse to see or acknowledge the millions of homeless and hungry people right here in our own country. What ever happened to the old saying that charity starts at home?

It seems they've forgotten where home is.
