How Many Times Do You Proofread Your Articles/Blogs?

I'm not that professional with my writing skills, but as much as I love writing online, I'm also eager to make it better. I'm an active writer on Triond and have 3 running blogs on blogger from where I started earning some cash recently. I love re-reading my articles over and over and as I go through them, it helps me drive myself to make them better. Wrong spelling, poor grammar and sentence structure are distinguished and so, I'd edit them whenever I encounter such. Good thing is, I know that my writing skills are being polished. I may not be that excellent but I believe that practice makes perfect! How many times do you re-read your articles and blogs? Do you also site mistakes over and over till it satisfies you? Share your experience!

I always read what I have written, specially when I write in English which is not my native language. Many times I add an idea that I had in mind but did not put into words. I have heard a lot about Triond, but I don´t know what kind of site it is. Could you explain it to me and tell me if it´s international? You could do that as a PM as we are friends. When I write in my own language, I don´t edit more than once if it´s a letter, but I do a lot of editing if it is a story.

Just once. I have been writing for years and years, so I don't really make that many mistakes anymore. And I write a lot too, so I don't really have the time to read everything several times anyway, even if I wanted to.

You have a very helpful site about making money online. I followed you there! You're great with your writing skills already and so, I salute you! Hopefully, I'll be able to write as many as I can too. ;)

It depends on where I'm publishing it, how long it is and how familiar I am with the topic. If I'm writing a quick one or two paragraph to a blog, I glance through it to catch any typos or other mistakes and I'm done. If I'm writing a longer piece for publication on another site or for a specific client, I edit until I'm satisfied. Sometimes I'm finished with it after going through it once or twice but other times it takes longer. Editing your work is a part of writing it. The two tasks are essentially the same.

most of the time I type my blog up in MS Word, I then let the spell check and gramer checker do most of the checking, I do of course re-read the article just to make sure it makes sence.

Hi Ronadelle, I freelance write for several websites. I love the writing and editing process. I, too, am eager to improve my writing and learn from my mistakes. I proofread my blogs and articles until the finished piece is as close to perfect as possible. Have a great weekend!

Hi Ronadelle, actually I do not proofread, not even once. That is a bad habit from young. Even when sitting for national examination, I do not usually proofread and correct all the errors. The most I did is to scan it through, and then just handed up. I used to read and edit when writing for Helium, since that site is very stringent with writing standard. I had to make sure that not a single sentence is in first person perspective. But for Triond and my blogs, I do not have the habit. I write primarily for myself. Sometimes readers will leave a comment to remind me of my errors. That is the time when I return to edit the content.

I proofread maybe twice, but that still does not ensure perfection as sometimes I am so excited to finally get an article or post finished and out of the way (plus the fact that I tire of work on it easily) that little things become easy to overlook from time to time. I always appreciate it when other people find errors I may have missed and point them out because it makes my work look that much more professional, which is what I strive for. The average reader isn't going to know what circumstances you're under that may have possessed you to write something that was spelled or punctuated incorrectly so it's important to not make any excuses and to just leave no stone unturned and try to make a good impression for everyone who comes to see your work.

I think that I can go on proofreading blogs and articles over and over again, because when I start proofreading I keep finding different ways of saying things and making alterations. It can be never-ending, so I just need to decide sometimes that enough is enough and post it. _Derek

I have to admit I am kind of bad when it comes to that. I will run the spell check of course, but that is about as far as I go. I always just want to get the articles submitted. I know the spell check will catch all of the spelling errors, and some grammatical errors. Of course if the word usage is incorrect it will not catch that, but I usually just kind of hope I didn't make those kind of errors. Of course when I go back and read things I wrote later on I do find errors that I have made, but most the of the sites I write on you can go in and edit your stuff to fix errors.

Hi ronadelle,It is nice to know that you take care with your articles, we need to do that constantly to better ourselves.I have been writing articles since 4 years and contribute to about 7 different sites including Triond ( where I contribute the least). No doubt that with experience we do become confident and better but can never become perfect since there are always others who are better than us.Article writing has such a wide field that one cannot master all of it , so better to analyse and decide which is the particular subject that you enjoy writing the most about.I am not saying that we should limit ourselves, but, most of us do our best when we are writing articles on subject that interest us...I proofread at least 2 or three times and in spite of it still end up making mistakes and have to edit my article at a later stage - after it gets published lol...all the best and happy mylotting

I do reread my responses here on Mylot and my posts on Facebook. I do because I usualy forget some words or spell something wrong that needs correcting! I have not tired to do any article writng, yet, and the same with blogging. If I did I would proofread them, too!

I usually proofread at least one time and maybe more. It depends on what type of writing I'm doing. For here on MyLot or posting to my blog, I'll usually just give it a quick once through. If I'm writing an article or something that's harder to edit once it is in place, I'll usually read it over a few times. I may change the wording or re-write it more than once before I actually post it to the web. I also learned not to depend too heavily on spellcheck either. It can help, but it doesn't always catch every mistake. For instance, the words that have more than one spelling depending on the context in which it is used, such as there, their and they're, can be misused and without a careful proofread, they'll slip right through. I always figure a little extra time spent on proofreading will pay off in the long run. It's better to make the extra effort to get it right the first time you post it. It looks much more professional and also helps maintain a good reputation.

Before posting an articles on my blog, usually I re-read it 2 or 3 times. So later, I rarely make any big change after my articles already being published. But, still, I like to re-read my published articles, now and later! I don't know, but I think it is a fun thing to do. So, I can see my writing style from time to time, can re-read my own experience and story (because sometimes I shared my life experience on my blog), and much more!

I proof it once for clarity (does it flow, are the sentences complete, & make sense in an easily read way, or does it need re-structured?) Then I go through for punctuation and all that kind of stuff before I even post. I do sometimes go back over older articles just to re-read them and see if I still like what I've written. It never hurts to see how you've grown as a writer.

I do that all the time. The number of times I proofread my own articles and blog posts depends on whether it's a long article (long blog post) or a short one.

I love to write short poem and an article, but i always make many mistake in writing the sentence. But i ignore that fact, while i am writing my article continuously then my grammar become right automatically. when i wrote my article then i didn't want to check the article. It is my behavior that once i write anything then i needn't want to check because it may create some mistake also , if you rectify it. That's why I don't want to change my behavior. I am newly joined this site, so i don't know whether this site help me to polish my grammar or not.
