Being more eco friendly is good in my opinion. In a lot of cases it saves money, like reducing heating bills by insulating your home and using eco friendly light bulbs and recycling stuff but trying to clean your home or buy organic food and non chemical personal products is so expensive most people cant afford it. Whats your fav green tip for saving money and the planet.

I am just watching a show on HGTV where a couple is looking for more eco friendly homes to purchase. Some great ideas on being more economical too. I think that staying cool in the summer and doing it economically is my favorite. In the heat of the day I always close up the house. Good blinds or curtains on each window is a good energy saver in Winter or Summer. Then in the evening open up windows and really airing it out inside and cooling down the house. THis keeps everything cooler and more pleasant to live in. A well built house with no gaps around windows or openings in the basement also helps.

Are these things not just common sense? Dark rooms are not my favorite but in the hot summer I find them pleasant and in the winter the light is really welcome. I think the way we live can be connected with the weather and seasons with lots of green plants if we want them. Now I am thinking about my dream home. Nice idea.

Perhaps for you it would be common sense but you might be surprised at how many homes I have gone to where people are griping about the heat but yet have it all opened up so it is hot.

A lot of being green is just common sense but the art of re using and saving was lost to many in the boom years and many of the younger generations wouldnt even think about things like re cycling or reducing energy consumption.

My favorite is well, you mentioned it but grow something you can eat, anything. Everyone can grow a cherry tomato plant even inside the house, a few peas or beans, potatoes are even better outside, dandy lions you can eat for crying out loud. After we discover our green thumb we take the fruit of the plant, chop up the rest and bury it in the ground. It is called recycled material. Now it does not sound like it is for everyone I know but if we did not use poison or fertilizers we would have a product that is ego friendly. That is one way.
