Have you spent a whole day planning & preparing an ethnic meal? What was it?

Once I decided to prepare a totally Scottish meal for the fun of it as my husband is Scottish. I researched recipes, made a shopping list, then prepared the elaborate meal! It was great fun and very delicious as well! The meal consisted of: Skye On A Plate - Delicate green salad with lightly cooked shrimp atop greens and herbs. Sirloin of Beef with a wholegrain mustard sauce laced with double cream. Rumbledethumps: mashed potatoes, cooked cabbage, grilled onions and chives topped with grated cheddar and baked to perfection. Strawberries in Red Wine Syrup with Creme Fraiche, garnished with mint sprigs. Have you ever prepared an ethnic meal? What were the courses - the types of food, etc.?

Well I am from Scotland and all I can say is your husband is probably a good liar when he told you he loved that meal. I can't see anything Scottish in it at all!

Thanks Peter. When I researched the recipes, I looked them up all under Scottish recipe books and Scottish sites on the internet. I guess the authors were the liars.

Now a couple of dozen crab claws with a pint of heavy, and a pint of Famous Grouse to follow just might be more realistic!

I dont know if I could cook a meal that takes all day to prepare. Maybe if it was for something special as you did for your husband. My kids would pick grilled cheese over just about any meal. They are so picky.

Hi Mrs. Bentley - Thanks for your cute response! I don't cook like that very often, but enjoyed it the one day that I was this elaborate. I even did up a scroll type "Bill of Faire" that was put at each plate on the table. I wish I had taken pictures as it turned out beautifully. The one drawback was that it really was a LOT of work and took the WHOLE day. If I cooked like that all the time I'd get nothing else done! Grilled cheese and Macs and Cheese works for me too! ;-)

I live in UK but my partner and me aren't British so basically I don't know how to consider ethnic food. I'm Polish and I prepare Polish food all the time. So maybe for us ethnic food will be British. Anyway I can tell what we usually have on weekend's dinner. We have vegetable soup with pasta and breaded thick pork loin ( fried) with salad (cucumber, spring onion, sour cream, spirit vinegar, pepper, salt, sugar). As a desert we have piece Vienna cheese cake. What you think?
