Cellphone Harassment?

My friend just texted me that she felt horrible and terrified from receiving text messages from an anonymous sender just now. Nasty messages like as if the sender wanted to do something bad to her. My friend was shocked upon receiving the message yet not responded so to make the sender think that she's not receiving any of its salacious messages.
If you were the one who received such text messages, what will you do?

How can you send anonymous text messages? You have to have a phone number to do that the text just does not come up unknown like a phone number? Or is it from a number she does not recognize. If that is the case she can report it to the police if she does not feel secure.

Hi, it is someone who's not registered to my friend's phone. There's number appearing of course just that we don't know who it is. I hope that my friend knows this sender by now. Thanks for the tip!

oh yes, the message could have been sent to a wrong number. we call it wrong-send.
